QWEST sucks. Without a doubt the worst co-lo I've ever had the displeasure of using. A call to their NOC gets routed from NJ to wherever your stuff is. This usually takes upwards of 20 minutes... even for something simple. Once the tech get it... pray they can tell the difference between a tape drive and a computer or you are completely fucked. To say they hire some of the most ignorant tech people ever is quite the understatement. They often have faulty equipment, that they don't detect as being faulty because they only monitor from inside their own network, not from external locations. Wow. They are just bad. I recommend against using them... despite their amazing backbone and facilities. The staff and their NOCs are just horrendous.

Whats going to happen? Each one is going to want to be the "Microsoft" that wins from the breakup. They will do everything needed to become better than the other part... the same that happened with the baby bells.

Eventually you will see the APP group either supporting every operating system there is in the world... or writing their own. Same with the OS group. These are proud people who have suddenly seen their value and lot changed don't think they won't fight to get it back.

Your response was brief, to the point, and most importantly not inflammatory. Microsoft is a corporation, so of course its going to act like one. This fact seems to get lost on many slashdot posters. The DMCA is something they fought for... and now something they are going to use to fight with. This is as it should be. Its the lay of the land now... the way it works. Currently.

Unfortunately for Microsoft (and any large coroporation) they move slow and reacte even more slowly. The power of the net comes from its ability to inform many people of all of the facts on any issue almost instantly. Long gone are the days when it took months or even years to start a proper counter-movement. Now it takes days... Microsoft has felt this before and they will feel it again. What was acceptable for big business in the 80s became less so in the 90s and now in the zeros those who can't change and adapt to a smart, all knowing consumer are doomed to failure at that consumer's hands. This is the "internet economy"... not some company with potential billion dollar profits 5 or 6 years after starting up, no its consumers finally having real choice and power.

I get really sick of the big movie houses coming out with a special version!@#!@# with 2 or 3 deleted scenes and commentary by gaffer #25. Criterion editions of movies have long set the standard for what an "enhanced movie" product should be.

Its amazing what the difference can be sometimes in a movie houses's product and the Criterion of the same film. Take Armageddon for example... not the best movie ever (by far) but the Criterion with the dual layer and replaced scenes make the experience a whole lot more enjoyable to the point of changing at least one person's view (that I know) of the film entirely. Thats pretty good for only adding in back a few minutes of deleted scenes.

The only drawback (and no the slightly higher cost is not one) is that sometimes they lag a bit and you've already purchased the inferior version of the film (ie Rushmore).

The buffering seems at least a little bit intelligent as well. When you are in an album its obvious that if it can it will go ahead and buffer the next track its going to play. Again with lower sampled mp3s it can buffer a lot more.
