    Uhm. So I guess the news does little for you? In fact everything on slashdot is in fact being "reported". Your attempt at redfining the word reporting is invalid as is your argument.

    This is obviously apparent even to you since instead of just stating your newly formed meaning of the term reporting you begin your post with an attack.

    Oh so when a Japanese magazine reports it, it is nothing more than a rumor. But oh, when it is on an American site, it is fact? Is that what you are trying to state?

    Okay. How? What has he done that has "earned" him the right?

    I can't believe the "narrow-mindedness" of all these Katz jumping bandwagon fodder. No matter how banal the drivel Katz dishes out these people come to his aide and rescue.

    Every argument for Katz centers around the "are you an international known and respected author?" or some other equally invalid critic. Katz isn't a respected author. He is a hack. I swear you people must think USA Today is filled with incredible detailed and accurate reporting.

    I have years of "Web writing" too! John that makes me a NET.GURU just like you! In fact isn't this your first real taste of net writing. A place where people actually give feedback on an almost instant basis on how annoying your drivel is?

    Again this article provides nothing to slashdot except more used disk space. However instead of simply ignoring it as many suggest (including Rob) it is my right and my duty to defend my beliefs. One of those beliefs is that you are a huge detriment to the "slashdot community" and should be firmly cut off before you drag it down anymore.

    And what makes it stupid? Calling him on his amazingly inaccurate statement of creating the internet?

    If he can't keep his head straight and not lie on a cheezy cnn interview then he definetly isn't material to be president. The president has to be able to lie directly to the camera without blinking.

    He has not been a strong supporter of the internet. He has been supportive. He has however been a strong support of the clipper chip and both CDAs.

    I'd rather have either a cardboard box or a magic 8 ball as president than any of our potential canidate choices.

    Don't worry for some code that was just lifted from the (working!) netbsd project I too am amazed at how insane the install for OpenBSD is on PMAX hardware. I never got it past remote booting the kernel.

    a) WINCE is only *one* OS the dreamcast runs. In fact there are at least two operating systems out there for it (SEGOS and the WINCE port). The Dreamcast allows booting any old OS you want off the CD.

    b) Dreamcast development is done on a variety of platforms. Windows is one of them yes, to allow easier porting of PC based games to the console.

    c) The PSX has already been using gcc so a linux hosting enviroment is nothing special.

    Games being developed under unix based OS's are nothing new (see DOOM).

    As a noted Katz critic I can still easily admit this is the best thing he has written since contributing to slashdot. Not only does this have article have some sort of value, it is cleanly written and not full of the usual Katz-isms that make me cringe when I usually read his stuff.

    Excuse me rob, but I was under the impression you were building a community here. Instead we have just been informed by you that this is not the case. Your claim to total control over the beast you have created is most definetly your right... but unfortunately it also is against everything your site supposedly stands for.

    I for one am amazed to have seen you say this and will start to look hard now for alternatives to slashdot where the "editor" is a bit more open minded.

    I for one commend Mr. Katz many contributions
    to the world of open source and his willingness to help those who are having problem with OSS based operatin... oh wait a second, he has never done any of that.

    In fact what has he done? Other than write a few horrid articles here and there? Can someone please explain to me why slashdot has a serious case of Katz worship? Linus or Jordan I can understand. Hell even that foul mouthed, ill-tempered little punk Theo, but Katz? Have we run out of heros that quickly?

    No. Most DSL connections (especially those in the non unix world) are dynamic IPs which are leased upon reboot. You may have the same IP for a long time but its not really yours. If you go with business class DSL lines you can request and get static IP. Static IP is a good thing... thats one of the reasons we need to switch to IPV6 so we have enough addresses to go around. If you need to access a service there are many other ways to do it other than having a dynamic IP (and all of them are better in the long run).

    And for the record "we" aren't powerful. It was the larger privacy groups which got Intel to change.

    I just took the time to re-read Katz last few postings to slashdot. I don't think any of his postings are spoofed nor do I doubt the validity of any of his claims...

    Quite simply Katz is a moron. A moron of the highest order. We shouldn't be suprised, the world out there is full of them... they mostly fill up roles as CEOs or head of MIS departments but Katz is living proof that a writer with national exposure can be more moronic than the "Tech Reporter" on any local news program.

    Instead of flaming Katz... we should be congradulating him on accomplishing as much as he has with his obvious mental defects.
