    But what about all the time I lose from having to manually shut off my monitor because I can't configure the screen saver in GNOME? KDE may have more configurations, but how often does one have to set them?

    [1] I specify this because yes, there are various special purpose Linux distros available - including ones for hard and soft realtime. To call them all 'Linux' and set them as a group in comparison to Windows is somewhat misleading.

    But isn't that an advantage of open source (being able to tailor the kernel for different purposes)?

    This company choose the MS license, and instead of working within those restrictions, the GP is trying to fight it, because he doesn't want to learn the proper way to work within the system they have.

    But is there a proper way to work within the system they have?

    The point is the business chose SBS, knowing that the restrictions were. If they feel they have outgrown it, there's a path to get them to a more flexible environment. The fact that they don't want to seems to indicate that they don't really mind the restrictions.

    But do they not really mind because there is nothing objectionable, or because they don't know any better? Other posters have defended SBS as a product for businesses without IT staff, so one might presume that such businesses could make bad decisions on IT products.

    Whether the GP needs a second domain or not, why should it be such a problem to set up one? Perhaps the GP is "biased" in favor of Linux because there are no such licensing hassles.

    Why? Maybe it's the other way around.

    Also, the energies of photons may be quantized, but what about the kinetic energies of objects? If I throw a ball, are its energies over time varying continuously? And when I said that spacetime is assumed to be a continuum, I meant a spacetime, not energy.

    If you have a triangle where the shortest side is 4, no line from any of the vertices to anywhere on the opposite line could possibly be less than 4. Anybody else see a different answer?

    You are incorrect. Take an equilateral triangle each of whose sides is 4. Then the altitudes are 2*sqrt(3). Let ABC be a triangle, and let AD be the altitude from A to BC. The AD is no longer than either AB or AC.

    In code? A numeric type designed for currency work (typically an add-in library). In a pinch you can use a 32bit integer and use the last 2 decimal digits as "cents", but you'll run the risk of overflow.

    In my case, only on the negative side :-)

    That depends on whether one is using "innocent" and "guilty" as legal terms (in Anglo-American law, can't speak for other systems) or ethical terms. In the former case, people are innocent until proven guilty.

    I have Microsoft Windows XP and SUSE 10.1 on my laptop. I kept XP on my laptop as it was the only supported Microsoft OS I had (when I subscribed to Road Runner, I didn't want the tech guy to worry about Linux). I retain it in order to test my web stuff with Internet Explorer.
