I have the Flagfox extension installed and this shows where a website is hosted. This is based on the IP (using a database) and not the domain name so it is fairly accurate. This Screenshot of the FBI website shows it is hosted in the UK (see lower right part of screenshot for the country flag). American government websites are not usually hosted in the UK. So something isn't right.
An interesting site you might want to have a look at is adblock.org. This is completely unrelated to the firefox extension of the same name and encourages users to think about what they are blocking. You can leave a comment with your opinion at the site.
remove all links to them from your blog. I know I did. I realise this was all the work of one person and that many contribute to the wordpress project. However considering the spam code hidden in their main page I think it is not good to link to them for the moment. You can edit the wordpress files yourself or download the edited files from my site (click my sig link and see the latest posting which has a link to a zip).
Or click this link to download the zip with the required files. Upload over your original files and remember to back things up.
I typed a lame post on my blog about how you can enter almost anything into the field for the zip code. Use the web developer extenion for firefox to remove the form limit. The server still accepts it and will display what you input on the next page. Even HTML code.
I even made an image gallery with some examples (anyone recognise the heavily pixellated image).
I am aware this post is a lame plug for my site where I have done immature things with this. However it shows the front page is misleading the users into thinking they are exclusive.
I currently use Keepass for remebering all my passwords. All I need to remember is 1 master password. Currently it is 16 charachters and includes more than just letters and numbers. I use it mainly for message board passwords, IM, email, websites, etc. Plus it's open source so you should be ok unless you have a keylogger installed.
Even eafter this story has been posted and many of the cameras have been slashdotted the admins still wont have a clue.
These have been known for a while. It's hardly breaking news. I visit the site soetimes. There is a lot more than cameras. There are links for usernames, passwords, databases, etc.
I was considering getting HL2 but the whole steam thing changed my mind. The idea is really good but they way Valve has treated their customers is going to ruin it in everyones mind. Most of the difficulties with steam could have been easily solved. I know the servers couldn't handle all those people activating but they shouldn't have to (the server should ouly need to send a couple of kilobytes of data). Support Valve? No fucking way!
I cant wait till another company like tries this. One which listens to their customers, provides a support system, and allows them to play the game without connecting to the internet every time.
I wonder what's happening with exeem. The official response is:
no comments on exeem
Sloncek said this (exact words) in the IRC channel. I'm having difficulty accessing the channel at the moment as alot of people seem to be "banned" until they sort out the problems (the server must have been under stress, with over 1000 people in the chat at once).
I guess need to listen to the inteview which was on novastream. Does it reveal anything?
The feature for file permissions on XP home is still there (provided NTFS is used) but microsoft don't provide a way to use it. I have managed to find a way.
I was bored one day so I picked up an old CD lying about. It was an ISP disk which happened to have an old NT service pack on it. I thought to myself, since XP home is based on the NT kernel perhaps there is something in it that allows access to advanced features not in XP home. I extracted the files (not sure how) and most of it was useless crap. However when I used the winfile.exe which was with it I found I was able to access the dialog for file permissions (click security on the menu, then permissions).
I have uploaded it to my website, as several days ago some people on another board were wondering how to do the same thing.
Bittorrent reduces the load on the central server by having everyone who downloads content upload content to other users. Couldn't a similar system be designed for HTTP connections? Obviously it would be designed with much smaller files in mind and with less overhead.
I realise no one give a shit about some large company's bandwith but for small community sites it could really make a difference. They wouldn't have to pay for a company to mirror their site and would save on bandwith costs.
This wouldn't work for server side scripts (as the HTML output would be different for every user) but for static HTML and images it would be perfect.
So I'll post what I was going to say as a reply. My post details each option (buying or giving the money directly to charity) and what benefits the latter option brings to you.
Imagine you have 7.50GBP.
You could buy 10 songs from the service. Oxfam gets 0.75. The artists get hardly anything. You get a crappy WMA file infested with DRM.
or
You download 10 songs from the internet and donate half the money you were going to spend directly to oxfam. Oxfam receives 3.50GBP (500% increase). You recieve a high quality audio file which will work on a variety of systems and contains no DRM.
Which would you choose? For legal reasons, I will not provide an answer. Of course most people will choose option 2 and keep the money for themselves but that's not the point. If you really want to help a charity there is always a better option than bowing down to a company.
I have heard that if you have too many entries in the hosts file it can slow down the operating system start up. I am still looking for some solid evidence to back this up but in the meantime might it instead be a good idea to use a firewall to block these web bugs. That way you can block the IP addresses too. Advertising companies will soon catch on to the idea of the hosts file and use IP addresses for the URL's.
I didn't actually say there was anything wrong with underage drinking. I really don't give a shit. Although if you are too young then it can damage your body more. However I still don't give a shit.
On another note, can someone tell me why my posts always seem to have a score of zero. My slashdot posts have remained at this score ever since I made a joke about sending SCO up to an asteroid to collect license fees for linux (in a topic about an asteroid impact simulator). I'm pretty sure that although my posts may not deserve a 2/3/4/5 they provide enough information to deserve a 1.
The police have been sending young people under 18 into shops to see if they can purchase alcohol. If they can then the shop loses their license. The police are doing this more and more so shop owners will get scared and end up asking for ID's.
It will make it harder for those under 18 to purchase alcohol/cigarettes from shops/off licenses. Of course they can always ask an adult to buy the drinks for them but I've heard of people who take the money and run.
I'm a young person from Glasgow, Scotland and although I don't drink I know that alot of my friends do. Underage drinking is a serious problem in Scotland.
Microsoft Produces Operating systems
microsoft.operating-systems.software.com
These operating systems must be paid for (to legally obtain):
microsoft.operating-systems.software.pay.com
The OS is not open source (assuming you don't mean pure ASM code):
microsoft.operating-systems.software.pay.no-source.com
This will get extremely confusing for many users. There will also be disagreements about what fits into what category. Also businesses need a domain name which sounds interesting and attracts the users attention.
Actually don't take that post too seriously. Flagfox was reporting the IP of the akamai cache. Sorry for the false alarm.
Pretend this post and the parent don't exist. Please.

It's worse than you think. It's actually about $3 for 4 minutes of content.

Why not just download from a P2P network and keep the money for yourself?
...has already been released.

Shameless plug for my site, where i have the file
The irony is that it removes one of the reasons to upgrade to xp pro and it was made by microsoft.
I understand that producing such a poster will be expensive but this is ridiculous:
Without frame: $77.00
With frame: $247.00
SCO's claim that their code has been stolen sounds more logical than this!
I did not suggest using bittorrent. I suggested using a similar idea/concept but optimise it for web pages.

Instead of using:
http://localhost/image.jpg
Advertisers would use:
http://127.0.0.1/image.jpg
To see if people read the article before posting on Slashdot.
This post is a joke so don't moderate down. Also I am aware that this wouldn't be really effective.
It would be cool if we could evolve robots so they can make an accurate choices based on facts, like a human being would, without being biased.
Some examples of the tasks a robot could do are judge criminal cases, mark exam papers, and moderate slashdot posts.
However although the robot will probably make the right choice more times than a human we still wouldn't trust these important decisions to them.
