    If police wants to take you in in an authoritatian state, they certainly don't need excuses like that.

    Typically, one living in a nonpolice state doesn't wake up one day and find he is now living in a police state. The govt. starts incrementally seizing more and more power, the id card and its database facilitates this transition. That's the worry.

    Sorry, but I have seen way too many cyclists who think stop signs don't apply to them, and to the many pedestrians who insist on taking their morning jaunt during rush hour, they need to learn that single file is appropriate for walking along the road, not as a phalanx.

    Russia are meeting their requirements. Those are the only ones I know of, but they're also the only ones I've read about.

    That's because they are using the levels from the Soviet era for industrial production and carbon emissions. They have plenty of room before the return to those levels of production. Everybody else is not able to meet requirements, and China and India have several years before they start worrying about emissions.

    As a driver of a 1989 E30 BMW, I find this article a little light on facts. First, it comes with ABS, second if you got the IS model, it came with a limited slip rear differential(LSD). The car is not tricky to handle once you realize it is a front engine rear wheel drive car, so it is capable of power oversteer, something your average front engine front wheel drive car will never do. As pointed out by others, stick a crappy pair of tires on a car, put down a little water and you'll make anyone look like a terrible driver. But, hey it's fun to make headlines w/ ROBOTS Take Over Roads!! - Studies show they eat old peoples medicines for food as well!

    Actually, it is far more simple than that, as long as you are not on the bottom of the ladder, but can see those on the rungs below you, you are happy. Also it helps if the bottom rungs do not make up a majority of the population, otherwise it is only a matter of time before a revolution comes along. Thus, movement isn't necessary, but the appearance of someone worse off than you is.

    Selective breeding is completely unrelated to genetic modification, it introduces no new genes into a species. No, genius that is what evolution does, or do you think the wheat that was grown in 1920 is identical to the grasses found in 10000 BC?

    You do realize that man, through selective breeding, grafting, and other means has been doing GM for centuries before anyone knew what DNA was? Now, we are using more precise means to achieve the same goals of: better yields, less loss due to pests, etc. Also what was the purpose of this statement? (previous products include good old napalm!) Do you mean to tell me you don't do business with BASF or Bayer(previous products include good old Zyklon B!)

    Kyoto- hmmm, given the fact that the US Senate would have to ratify a treaty, I don't see many calls in the Senate for the president to bring them Kyoto to sign. So that's a non-starter, nevermind Russia gets to use the pre-fall of the Soviet Union as their carbon amounts or that China and India get a free pass, so the West can send their manufacturing there, it's not like we are all on the same planet. Then there is the cute accounting games the other signers will play to claim they are meeting their quotas.

    That actually is happening to an extent. The local racetrack only sells tickets in packs. You want to go to the Indy car race? Good, hope you don't mind buying a ticket to the NASCAR, Bush, and Truck race as well...
    Bad example, the attendence figures for the IRL races at non-Nascar tracks is significantly lower than at the NASCAR tracks. Sorry, Bubba is supporting Tony George's arrogance.

    This attack still requires trust, the example breaks down if Caesar generates the document himself. If Caesar generates the file then he knows the MD5 hash. The example works by having the two files: order which will hash to O' and letter which will hash to L'. The attack uses the fact that for some A and B the hash of O'+A' == L'+ B' where you stick the data that is A and B into the commented out parts of the Post script file. However, if Caesar compares the MD5 hash of his letter to the attacker he would see the O' != O'+A'.
