    A subsides is a broad based user loan. Some farms get subsidies, you eat don't you? Simi-trucks are subsidized on the highway destruction they cause, practically everything thing you buy or use was brought in on a truck. Subsidized power plants, you don't use electricity?

    I put red asphalt sheeting on my roof three years ago. I placed 1 inch Styrofoam between the mounting boards. The sheeting has to be painted every three years so in March I painted the sheeting white. It made a big difference in my cooling cost. Plus my house is easy to find on Google Earth.

    Farmers produce food to earn a living. They have thousands of dollars per acre in production cost. Someone has to pay the fuel, seed, and machinery cost. Give my crops away? I'll just let weeds grow ( at least I wont be using any Roundup) and you can starve.

    I'm left handed. Now, before you say "poor baby" this used to be a real handicap. It does hurt to be called gauche, or even sinister. When I was in school teachers would bind your hand or rap your knuckles with a ruler if you tried to write with your left hand, and we're 11% of the population.

    You're odd and society does not like odd. In the media people of your type are over represented and children see you more as "normal'. In a few years I see quotas for LBGT just as there are for African-Americans. So just stay away from razors and sleeping pills, your time is coming.

    AT&T has ran dark fiber down my road. About 30 houses total. The co is too antiquated to support dsl so we have neither. Most people have given up on a land line and use cell or satellite technology. Cellular WI-fi is almost competitive with satellite internet. One of these will probably be available before AT&A offers anything.

    I can tell you never ran a business or built a commercial building. You start a business to make a profit. A small increase in labor cost may wipe out your profits. If you want to guarantee a living wage for the worker, guarantee a profit for the owner.

    If you think council housing is so profitable take out a mortgage and have some built. Are some people getting rich off the government? You bet, but you don't want smaller government, you just want it do other than what it is doing now.

    I got my ZX81 as a Christmas present from my wife. I would sneak it out of the closet, unwrap it, play with it for a while and wrap it back up. I went through the basic programing book that came with it. I added a 64K expansion pack and full keyboard. I wrote an accounting program for my farm that I used for three years until I got a Tandy model 4p. I still have the ZX81 in a closet. I even have the 4 in thermal printer. Printing out reports would give me a nerdgasm.

    Only a fool would say he believes in something that can't be proved and then try to prove it! If I could prove it there would be no need for faith. But saying someone who believes in ID is unqualified to work in physics make you no better than priest burning heretics. If he can prove his work it doesn't matter what he believes.

    You're talking about a palmetto bug. Here in north Florida I have large clumps of palmettos growing near my home and of course large palmetto bugs blundering into my house. They don't want to be inside, I just coach them into a cup and throw them out the door. Do NOT squash one, or spray it with roach spray, The stench is nauseating.

    I just turned 61 and when I am doing some wood work I find using the metric side of my tape measure is easier. Instead of trying to write down or remember feet-inches-sixteeths it's just centimeters- millimeters. Plus a millimeter is 50% more precise than a 16th of an inch. I feel so ashamed.

    There is enough money for everyone to have a job but not enough consumers have the money to buy goods and services. Even Robert Reich says that government is the employer of last resort. All of us on welfare and disability are "working" for the government.

    Without government regulations more people could engage in economic activity (prostitution, child labor) but but it would be the same money spread thinner to more people. Much of the wealth creation is concentrated in a few hands and must be pried out to be used to "employ" people with no real job available.

    There have been two books published on the Fair Tax. Everyone gets a pre-bate (check from the government) to off set the taxes paid on any amount up to the poverty level. For people who don't actually spend that much it will amount to a welfare check.

    The fact that there will never again be jobs for everyone will eventually be acknowledged but what to do about it will probably be debated long after the riots have started.

    In my town stores move to get away from "the hood". Even members of that community get a ride to outlying stores because they don't feel safe in the store there.

    Your statement about residential neighbor hoods sounds like a plan. Buy the cheapest house for sale in a good neighborhood and junk it up, actually just rent it to ( low class ethnic group) and they will junk it for you. Buy next house that goes on sale. Repeat until the last few can be got from the banks for a song. Kick the renters out, clean up the yards and repaint, profit. Excuse me while I go study for my real estate license.

    Everyone deplores military spending but line up by the thousands for jobs at a defense plant. I worked at one for two years (they make twin engine navel patrol aircraft) and never once saw anyone protesting at the gate. Every congressional district has a military base or supplier in it. No congressman is going to vote against military spending. If he does any spending cuts will be targeted to his district as punishment.

    I meant. STAHP, I'm to old for this meme thing. Most scientist believe the only help for Earth's problems is for humans to stop everything they are doing. Stop burning coal, damming rivers, clearing forest, flying cross country, growing corn, cows, fish, chicken, and of course baby humans, just stop.

    I second this, many of the books are free on Baen's free library. You can also read several chapters of each book and 1632 Gazettes at Amazon. Mostly historically correrct and thought provoking.

    Both of my sons have this . The oldest is a contract annalist for a German conglomerate. The youngest rooms with him while attending collage. Obsessing on reports is one way to get good grades. There are many jobs where attention to every detail is critical. Game night does resemble an episode from "The Big Bang Theory" but with a lawyer, English PhD, third year collage student, an IT worker, a psychology major and a hairdresser it is entertain. When this group shuffles into their hotel at Dragon-Con other attendees already know their names.

    To the liberal any tax less than 100% is a subsidy. Oil "subsidies" are simply tax deductions specific to the production of oil, no government tax money is "funneled" to the oil companies, just less money than could actually be taken from them. Oil companies pay hundreds of billions in taxes and do make tens of billions in profits. If you think congress could balance the budget with oil company profits you are sadly mistaken.

    When liberals quote science they use one word, "STAPH". Many environmentalist believe man went wrong when he discovered fire. They will not be satisfied until humans are back to living in trees and not burning anything. Mankind is unarguably bad for the natural environment because we are, wait for it, UN-natural. Unless some powerful outside force comes along and constrains us mans rule and destruction of the Earth will continue until some apocalypse destroys us all.
