I just clicked on the ass hat ad at the top of the page and once againe it's crap. On Slashdot, the ad is crap, not quality. What is this shit? A quality site like this can not attract quality adverts? It was crap. CRAP, C-R-A-P. I got noththing, zilch, nada, zero. It was crap. Such things should be shot. SHOT. Good Lord. Christ, I spend the time to navigate there and click through pages and pages of CRAP and what do I get at the end? I don't know, because I closed it after deciding that it was a LOSS. Slaverts=CRAP.
Software developers are usually the ones who want to make sure software is as bug free as possible before it is released. The problem lies with the pointy haired management who insist that deadlines be met at all costs...
"Pointy Haired Management" is an out-dated cliche which shows ignorence of basic business concepts. Without "Pointy Haired Management", "Overweight Basement Dwelling Geeks" would not have jobs because there would be no marketplace for products and services.
...and usually it is the comsumer who pays the costs.
Also, there is very little relationship these days between the retail cost of commercial software solutions and the costs of development.
so a few months (maybe a year already) they just flat out said in a few weeks, all your mail older than 60 days will be deleted
I don't believe this is the way to do it. Let the user decide what he/she wants to save in their finite email space. Deleting something without interaction with the user opens the door to the possibility of deleting something of value to the company. Sure, people should not keep important stuff this way, but we know users do it. Just limit the size of the mailbox, and let the user decide what to keep.
Hopefully, they can keep Affleck out. He has the superficial look and the emotionless demeanor necessary for Spock, but brings nothing else.
But that's exactly why he'd be the right choice. I mean, come on, like Bill Shatner brought such depth and character to the role... The shallowness is part of the "camp", and Affleck will be able to do that with perfection.
Do you have so much time on your hands that you find it amusing to prattle on about common spelling errors? Or does it some how make you feel superior to spot a misused "an" and point it out to the whole world as is "see, this person is an idiot, whereas I am a superior human!". Good lord, get a life.
Bullshit. Someone made a human error. By the way, with out the "Marketing guys", many of the pundits here at Slashdot would be posting their little gems of wisdom from the public libaray instead of from their employer's network.
Stupidity, yes. But my count was 116 or so emails. Hardly "spam"
"Rule #3 when doing PR for an antispam vendor: Don't dis the news editor who writes a blog."And that is where I stopped careing. IT'S A BLOG, people. Less important than the opinion page of a newspaper...

No. Most visual professionals do not use GIMP for many reasons. It falls into the "no there yet" category on most counts.
This is as absurd as saying that Microsoft never pays any profit taxes, because the government is too timid to come collect it. Please...
Well, how long has this gone on now? 2 years, 5? Shall we make it 10? The EU unfortunately fits the old cliche about the flip-floppiness of the French, very well.
MS can appeal, but they have to pay anyway. If their appeal is successful, they'll get a refund.
Do they? Do they really have to pay? Is the EU really in a position to block sales of the worlds most "popular" OS for business? I think while it would not endure Microsoft to the EU, they would be politically unable to ban Microsoft from selling their product to Europeans.
If the EU fines MS $357M, MS can simply raise the price of their European software by $357M.
They could (if the EU does not prevent them), but that would only serve to deter sales, which for large "enterprise" organizations always involve heavy discounts from the "list" price anyway. Unlikely.
But even if that happened, would it be a bad thing? Wouldn't that make Linux or other Windows alternatives look that much better?
but who is getting all this money and what are they gonna do with it?
The problem with the EU is that they will let Microsoft drag this out indefinitely, their "diplomatic" process allows for it. The likelihood of Microsoft forking over this money is nil.
"I must say that I find it difficult to imagine that a company like Microsoft does not understand the principles of how to document protocols in order to achieve interoperability."
An increase in functionality, a "feature rich" application always leads to a larger binary. Is that "bloat"? Is there something intrinsically wrong, bad about a large application? I don't think so, but if they keep with the plug-in extension paradigm, you will always be free to strip out what you don't need from those included as standard with the install. Perhaps they could even make it custom install option.
Unless this "shield" protects the airport from terrorists attempting to board a plane, what use are they? When was the last time a plane crashed into an airport building? Now if this was the White House or tother big military places, sure, but your standard domestic airport? Why?
Why? Because, with the help of the "War on Terrorism" hysteria, they can sell them to airports for millions and millions of dollars. That's why.
I just don't get how they can keep underestimating Vista the way they are.
The problem is that they set release date targets based on what the marketing folks want without consideration of what is left to be done in the development. If they would simply say "it'll be out when we're done", they would gain a huge amount of credibility.
Al-queda used to have some competent people, and they might eventually get their act together for another big act of terrorism, but what we're seeing now are wannabee terrorists.
I think this is very dubious. They haven't arrested anyone ("The principal players are not in this country"), and only alluded to three or four people who "may" have Al Qaeda connections... To me it smells like PR to support the supposed "war on terror".

They could start sueing makers of FTP software. Or Windows, without which "illegal" file shairing would drop to close to zero...

Said in a funny European / Clouseau accent

It's not the user's data, it's the employer's data. So, when the user "loses" the data, it's the employer who is out, not the user.
Sorry for being ignorant (honest!), but as a non-developer type, I'm unclear the concept. How does ssh2 keys do away with passwords?
Why? Because, with the help of the "War on Terrorism" hysteria, they can sell them to airports for millions and millions of dollars. That's why.

"Wannabe terrorists" can still kill people...
