    Umm... most people here that want in-car navigation systems are already considering buying them. In Denmark there are tons of adverts for them all over the place, including a huge billboard not far from my home. If Bill Gates want to get Microsoft navigation systems as the standard, they better hurry up because they aren't innovating but just following in the others' footsteps (as usual).

    Microsoft is a company. Linux is a product. You are comparing apples and oranges.

    Do you mean:

    I support Microsoft rather than Debian

    or

    I support Microsoft Windows rather than Linux

    or

    I support Microsoft rather than the people that donate their time to work on Linux

    Whichever way you put it your comment doesn't really make sense and needs more explanation. How does Microsoft help you make a living in a way that Debian can not do?

    Is it just that you can make more money selling a product for Windows than a similar product for Linux? Is your ability to make a profit a result of the fact that Microsoft pay their developers, or is it just because Windows currently has more market share? If Windows was open sourced would it hinder you in making a profit?

    Please try to make your comment make sense because I am sure that you have an interesting point but I think you forgot to say what it is.

    There hasn't been a *single* patch to fix flaws in FF2. Not. A. Single. One.

    There haven't exactly been a lot vulnerabilities found either. The only one I know of found in Firefox 2 since its release is marked as less critical by Secunia. I'm sure that if you can find critical errors in Firefox, they will be fixed quickly.

    And, thanks to /. users for posting the importance of having user accounts for general use, this machine hasn't had any viruses in a couple of years.

    You misunderstand the security benefits of multiple users. It doesn't stop the machine from getting any viruses. What it does do is to stop viruses spreading from one user to another, and more importantly it stops a virus from corrupting the entire operating system.

    If you have never been infected by a virus with multiple user accounts, you probably wouldn't have using a single, shared administrator account either.

    Actually they have every right to do whatever they like as long as it is within the law. There is nothing specific in the GPL that says they cannot make a deal with Microsoft. The only thing that will stop companies from doing things like this, is if they lose customer support. If you don't like it, don't buy their products.

    The Chinese are taking power away from corporations and giving it to their people, by making public services available for free. That is almost the opposite of what happens in the West.

    If you are the sort of person that needs to buy expensive research papers, you are not in the target audience for Wikipedia! Wikipedia is not intended to be used for professional research, it's just a little fact book that may or may not be correct, with some links to sources on each page. Nothing more. It's not going to be making a dent into your sales figures, so relax!

    If you support Wikipedia, maybe you can even think of a way to benefit from it, you never know...

    This is especially when I can get a used computer with decent specifications (Pentium III, 1 GHz, etc) for approximately $25-$50 at the local surplus store.

    Now try buying a few hundred million used computers at your local surplus store and see if you can still get the same deal. China has a lot of people and buying computers from American second hand stores isn't really a feasible business plan for a company trying to make ground in the Chinese market.

    I support animal (and human) testing for medical reasons. I am not one of the people you hate so stop taking digs at me please. But why does my view on the topic matter anyway? I am not saying whether I am for or against testing on animals, I am saying that I am against prejudice. Would you not agree that the post I was replying to was prejudiced and that I was 'attacked' for pointing it out?

    It's sad to see supposedly educated people being so blatantly prejudiced without remorse. Has everyone turned their brain off?

    Now I answered your question, why won't you answer mine?

    You are completely missing the point. Not every animal right protestor supports throwing firebombs. You claim that they do but you have no evidence that it is true and you hope that by saying it enough times that everyone will believe you.

    Strange as it may seem, some animal rights protesters use only peaceful protests and strongly object to the firebombings. They agree with the firebombers' motives but not with their methods.

    Sweden is in violation of Berne.

    Show me where in law it states that Sweden violating the Berne convention gives the Swedish police the power to imprison an innocent lawyer and confiscate political parties' web servers.

    If anyone should be arrested it is the members of the Government who are so clearly abusing their powers to suppress views they disagree with. I don't care whether or not I agree with the views - there is this thing we used to have called the right to Free Speech which is slowly being eroded under the guise of 'War on Terrorism', 'War on Piracy' and 'War on Whatever Suits Us Today'.

    If people arrest the two convicted child pornographers (who have now served their sentences) for compaigning to reduce the legal age for sex, I would be equally outraged even if I don't agree with them. This is because I seem to be one of the shrinking minority of people that actually think the right to Free Speech is more important than whether some American company's profits are increasing or not.

    The only reason the police picked on the Pirate Party is because they are so successful. I hope they get a huge blow to their PR for this act of pure unadultered corruption.

    He is advocating prejudice. I don't care whether his argument is logical or not, he is advocating discriminating against all Animal Rights Protestors and getting modded up for it.

    Did you know Christians blow up abortion clinics? Why aren't all Christians evil?

    Why is prejudice against a whole group of varied people so acceptable on Slashdot in some circumstances but not in others?

    It's a horrible case of double standards and the worst thing is that pointing it out gets you modded down by supposedly intelligent people.

    what is needed, is more manpower available to track, prosecute and breakup such nets.

    Perhaps if the police spent less time investigating fraudulent copyright infringement claims and confiscating a political party's servers they would have more time to chase real criminals. Or was it only in Sweden that the police ignore the criminals and try to hunt down political activists instead?
