Have any of the astronauts who were on the moon missions suffered from damage because of this? No doubt they would be exposed to it at some point during the mission...
You can start by passing init=/bin/sh to the kernel (on Linux at least). That *only* starts/bin/sh, so you are in complete control as to what you run (provided they haven't modified/bin/sh). The only foolproof way is to run from read-only media (ie. Knoppix) and check every binary.
Any arrangement where 'the labels' (to use your caricature for 'the bad guys' which is just that- a caricature)
By "the labels" I mean "the distributors", who sell the music. They are not intrinsically bad, it's just that the major ones tend to have bad qualities.
Any arrangement where 'the labels' (to use your caricature for 'the bad guys' which is just that- a caricature) don't have the right to exclusive ownership is one in which the artist isn't free to sell that exclusive ownership.
Nothing is preventing the artist from selling an exclusive licence for distribution and sublicensing, my point is that at the end of the contract, the artist should own their work.
To use another analogy: I can make a contract that says that I will work. I cannot legally sell myself into slavery (ie. I can sell the use of myself, but I am not able to sell myself). Do you consider that to be an infringement of my rights?
'Back in the USSR' indeed.
For it to be Socialistic/Communistic, the work would have to be owned by the government.
Thats all fine and dandy but remember, IT is a "profession". Dont you think its a good idea to dress "professionally"?
That's all fine and dandy, but cleaning the shit out of peoples blocked toilets is a "profession". Don't you think it's a good idea to dress "professionally"?
I'd honestly prefer CDs to downloaded media. I get losslessly formatted music, in such a way that I can encode it into whatever format I want, along with cover art, etc. And it's an physical object which cannot be overwritten, so no worries about losing a hard drive.
Try going to https://mail.google.com/mail instead of http://mail.google.com/ and you'll get what you're looking for.
Consistent Windows look and feel you say? It seems that just about every program I install has its own widget toolkit.
But you'd need to run that JVM inside another JVM....
Their suits wouldn't have been protected though.
Not to mention that Chernobyl was caused by stupidity of a scale never seen before.

Your average teen will just download it from P2P for nothing, rendering this whole argument invalid.
I (personally) think that it would be a good idea, and that labels should be forced to license it.

If no-one buys into trusted computing then media companies won't require it to play their products.

If they're willing to charge through the ass, then yes, I imagine they would.
Doesn't the Atkins diet cause kidney failure? Staying on it for too long would be a bad idea I imagine...
It boils down to the same difference - loss of income
But weren't you responding the post by saying it doesn't matter whether or not they would have bought it anyway?
They went off for 15 minutes a while back I believe, but that was because their DNS went down, and had to wait for the records to propogate.
Is that really normal over there? My doctors have always given me my X-Rays...
Most IM clients have more than text. Display pictures, custom emoticons, video conferencing, etc. etc. Each of these are an avenue for attack.
If the software is written in C++ then it should be using std::String anyway, which is safer.
And if they change the EULA after a patch? Is it reasonable to not get a refund then?
