I think is indicative of ThinkFree's relative size. When was the last time a big website was down? One like, Google or Amazon. ThinkFree would be able to upgrade seamlessly, I expect, once they've grown a bit.
Any bets on how long it will take bloggers to dig up dirt on this guy? The Bush adminstration has never done anything for altruistic reasons and this appointment is no different.
[This] will lead to people that are unable and unwilling to experiment with software. Half of what I have learned regarding software has been trial and error.
That may suit you learning style, but for others it is extraordinarily frustrating. We need to be able to include everyone in this community. Users who do not have the inclination, or time, to use trial and error should be able to post on help message boards without getting flamed. Sadly, in the Linux community, noob has become an mark of shame. Its absurd and counter-productive. We do not entice new users very well at all, and it is to our detriment.
Apple has very carefully created a boutique quality to their products. This was a calculated move. To strive for dominance would bring much of the hip-and-cool aspects of Mac culture to an end.
Apple is not looking to unseat Windows as the OS king or are they trying to become ubiquitous. Apple is cultivating a boutique culture with their products and they are being very successful. Starbucks charges an unreasoble amout for coffee but people pay because they like to be associated with the Starbuck images. Apple is similar but not the same. They actually produce superior products (OS X, iPod) but they want to maitain the hip and cool vibe that is associated with them. The company is doing very well at the moment. I don't understand the "death knell" attitudes of some comentators. Why on earth would they alter OS X? They are making a fortune with it.
I think Boot Camp was introduced to shut people up. To end the Will-Windows-Run-on-Macs speculation. I firly believe that virtualization is in the card in the near future. Boot Camp is a temporary release to bridge the gap.
If a Linux Distro is really open, should the user not have the freedom to choose if he wants to use open-source drivers or proprietary drivers. Being slavish to the 'open-source only' rule is in fact counter to the spirit of it all.

He wasn't exactly treated fairly by Jobs and the company in its fledgling days
That is the long standing rumour. As you say, it'll be interesting to see if this is actually the case. Hopefully he'll discuss whether his treatment (good or bad) was warranted in the context of trying to set up a big corporation. It is always advisable to treat people decently, but there are times when circumstance dictate ruthlessness.
I'm looking forward to reading Woz's take on it all.
Snow occurs natually. Your anology would have been more apt if you had said that homeowners are responsible for moving the snow put on their sidewalks by nefarious folks living up the street.
The day will come when the owners of the infected computers will be responsible. This is of course insane, but it is an easy way to assign blame. The real culprit, of course, is too difficult to track.
It seems to me that this represents that the internet is maturing. A couple of years ago, it was mainly used as new way to do things we already used to do. i.e. read news, yellow pages, correspond, shop (this one may be a stretch). However, blogs and social networking are new thing that the internet has made possible. These sites are growing because this form of communication is growing. Such activities were not possible before the internet, but now, as it matures, new communication phenomena are emerging. Heady days, indeed.

When the army went East, it left a real bad taste in my mouth.
People can't judge themselves objectively.
Nonsense. I know I'm the most humble person ever.
Real journalists? You mean corporate controlled pawns who are gagged for fear of threatening advetising revenues?

I don't think Jobs wants to dominate.

This notion is unmitigated nonsense.

In a related story Microsoft announced that Windows Vista Remote Desktop will ship in 18 - 24 months.

Did you buy it on the Future's Market?

That lesson is: Temporary embarassment can lead to huge cash rewards!
I'm pretty sure that Google has flatly refused to ever pay any fees to any ISPs. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

That is a common misconception. Monopolies are legal. Pure and simple.
There exists Anti-Trust regulations in order to prevent monopolies from becoimg abusive and stifling competition.
It is a monopoly. Nobody ever implied it wasn't. Monolopolies are not illegal. Abuse of a monopoly is illegal.

The news part is that the problem that has been known to many readers here for ages is being publicly acknowledged by Microsoft.
Finally! A real reason to upgrade to Vista.
