    Calling Bill Gates a "money-loving jerk" is far from fair. He and his wife give away billions every year. It's fine to not like Microsoft's business practices, but not Gates.

    I've heard that suggested so many time, but it's just not right.

    You cant prevent USERS from clicking "okay" on an "Install this plugin to view this webpage!" popup. You just can't do anything about that.

    Having a program update it's reference files and do a low-level scan done by windows every night seems to me like the only way Joe Sixpack is going to have a relatively clean machine.

    I honestly don't believe that your comp was render unsuable that fast. I install Xp all the time and it's NEVER that bad. My suggestion is to DL zonealarm or some other firewall and put the install file on a CD. (on your linux box)

    Slashdot _does_ compile wrong in firefox. All the time on the front page the table containing the newest news overlaps the table on the left with all the pretty links. About it compiling right in IE, I don't know.

    My bet is that M$ doesn't want the world to know that they caught them. Remember the quote from Oceans 11 that when something like this, "Run and hide. Run and hide.     My highschool used DeepFreeze last year, it didn't take long to crack at all. I suggest a different program.

    mIRC script is a great primer. It's a very simple scripting language has gotten alot of my friends started. It's also based on C++, which makes it a VERY good C++ primer.

    You have been able to set winamp to become translucent on idle for a while.

    The only real preventative of said trojans are things like Nortons Auto-protect, and a well updated one at that. I've actually have several downloads from sites I had believed reputable stopped by Norton, and on previous inspection they did have trojans attached, it's given very few false positives too.
