Since Novell is actually coming off of this paying more than Microsoft will pay I think the author has a little bit too much tinfoil in his hat. Microsoft in any ways didnt actually do anything wrong in the SCO vs IBM thing, Remember IBM asked in discovery for ALL of the correspondence from SCO concerning MS and nothing turned up, even when IBM questioned Microsoft employees
" Far from it. Microsoft's market share doesn't mean much if the company no longer innovates and takes seven years to release a new version of its flagship product. This is the tech market. That is a hugely long time. People don't take this company seriously anymore. Microsoft was once written as the threatening beast, but they are now mentioned sarcastically, often as punchline. Companies and small startups no longer fear them. The fire and energy is at Google and Apple. "
Funny since larry Page said that he was worried about Microsoft in an article. Microsoft is still very relevant, in terms of Servers and development tools they are on top right now. There are a lot of people excited about Windows Vista and who knows, maybe it will be the best desktop OS in the world. If you think Google Writely and google Spreadsheet are actually true competitors to office, please grow up.
" Linux will continue to gobble up servers, and Windows will continue to sort of lamely deflate in the desktop market. Analysts are actually predicting a massive increase in Apple market share, as much as triple. But more importantly, the direction in tech now is the web and digital media--Google and Apple's #1 markets. Windows is "meh.""
See above, actually last quarter Windows outsold Linux servers and Apple marketshare dropped 1 point and Linux hasnt even budged on the desktop side. Apple is the one that leans on its install base.
More in love with Netscape than I am with Firefox, its faster, it has built in Phishing and spyware protection. Its more attractive and has a much cooler name.
Where do you live? Egypt? Let me guess they seem to magically remember everything about their clients? Garbage, every home health worker I know of including hospice workers are issued and use Laptops or other mobile computing device. I'm beginning to think this thing is made up. Fact checking isnt turning up much of anything.
For some reason, I think the defendant in this case is full of shit. First, what does she do? She is a home health aid, sometime in the course of her training she has used a computer and if she is so old that she didnt have computer training and she still works in the field I wouldnt want her as my home health aid. Also, home health aids are normally given a laptop to store their clients information. Very rarely and Im talking only bumfukt Egypt do they use paper anymore. I live in the very redneck part of North Carolina where they cant even spell 'computer' and they have computers
Whether this story is made up, or she is just trying a new innovative defense I find it very hard to believe as would any judge. The only way she is going to get this thrown out is if she can show massive identity theft and be able to prove it.
Maybe I just didnt get much out of it. The author is simply put a Microsoft basher and the "History" of Microsoft is simply the same urban legend myths we have heard on the web before that were debunked. Its a good read for fiction and a good free advertisement for Open Source
I have used the XP Power Toy Desk manager for years and have not had any of the issues you bring up and considering I make it a standard install on all the company machines and everyone else uses it and they havent had any issues with it either. In fact I would say its the best desktop manager out there.
Microsoft is not cutting support. Windows 2000 is going into Extendded support meanng Microsoft will not do any non-security feature enhancements to the product. Upgrades are very hard to force upon people and even if you restrict access to a product like refuse IE7 to Win2k customers for example, customers will still find a way around it.
Paul Allen is no longer an employee, partner or shareholder at Microsoft anymore. He gave up everything. The European Council put on Microsoft one of the largest fines EVER imposed by the EU so I doubt very much he was influenced. As for Software patents, I cant wait until they pass, Im a huge supporter.
With this ruling. Its one thing to inform the public of a possible security flaw, but its another thing to publish code to take advantage of that exploit. My only hope is that the US follows in Frances footsteps on this issue.
First, I have not had any device problems with Windows XP, or even Win2k for that matter. I install the driver and it works. As for Linux device management, well people it sucks. Unitil I can install all my hardware, that I want to use, without having to recompile my kernel or rely on an NDIS Hack, I cannot and will not in good conscious recommend Linux to anyone that is not computer savvy, nor will i recommend it for clients who rely on a 3rd Party support personnel. Its a pain in the ass because as it stands we have to jump through hoops to get things going.

IBM and Sun make their money off of hardware not software. Google makes their money off of advertising.

" How does this information compare with the Slashdot crowd's real-world experience?"
Well considering most readers of Slashdot are Linux folks, Im willing to bet they say it isntr so

Thats because its the reporter that made the statement not Microsofts rep.
Im so happy Netscape is being preinstalled. Opera or Netscape would have been a significant choice

I have used the Microsoft Anti-Spyware program with Firefox installed and it doesnt do that to me. Clearly a clever fake
