  1. Australian trend on Job Market for Developers Evaluated · · Score: 1

Have a look at www.jobnet.com.au which shows the trend in Australia. Lately Unix is on top with Java the dominating language. Not sure how accurrate these stats are (ie do they see "JAVA" as a keyword or not) but are usually pretty accurrate. Internet technologies shows that .NET and JAVA are competing head-on-head for dominance but the market is pretty much evenly split between the two.

Hmmm.. here in Australia you find alot of the 20-30 year olds with a Gameboy and I'm not sure many "kids" can afford to purchase their own DS unless of course a parent is willing to dish out the money to keep them quiet.

One thing that keeps coming back from more senior people is that the GBA screen is too small. They [think they will] get headaches staring at such a small screen.

Granted the games you list are titles most of us grew up with with Nintendo and I think Nintendo need to develop a new theme if they want to start targetting the senior audience. With their "Touching is Good" campaign I don't think they are selling to kids anymore - I'm sure you would probably get arrested if you said that to someone elses kids!!!!

However it's not like you can go down the road and get some blank media for Nintendo products at all though.

Do Sony really need to drop the price to compete with Nintendo? They do have different markets - while Nintendo is branching from it's usual kids-teens market to the young adult market, Sony is targetting the adult market specifically. Surely anyone at around 18-35 can afford a PSP - even with the reported defects - at it's current price (relative to the Yen of course).

Although I'm a DS fan, how many people will be at risk of having a DS stolen (there are so many out there already as it is) compared to someone having their PSP stolen?

    Just a thought...

But seriously, the Gamecube wasn't designed to fit on a video shelf for a reason. I know for a fact that there is no way I'd stick my cube on the shelf I take it all around the house. If someone is using one of the 3 TV's in our house I just pick up my cube by it's handle and take it to one of the others.

Here in Australia you can only get a replacement battery direct from Nintendo and in all of Australia there is only 1 Nintendo office - Melbourne, Victoria. For me thats 2 states away.

EJB's are currently undergoing a major overhaul - obviously your message to Sun direct or indirect has gotten through although I'm sure there are many developers with the same problem.

Sure a future change won't help you now but it can keep your options open.

In the meantime look at Hibernate, I was sceptical at first moving from EJB's to Hibernate but now I don't regret it. It takes a bit to actually pick up but you quickly accelerate through the examples.

We now use a Session Bean facade on top of Hibernate and the speed has improved dramatically - using Java is all about getting to know the right design patterns!

No thanks, I'll stick with ViM. I have no interest in a drag-and-drop GUI web page creator, and all of its other features seem to me to be of dubious value.

I don't know about you but the whole idea of developers developing web pages is slowly fading out. If a corporate person can drag'n'drop what they want then let them.

Fine, they may not always get it right but drag'n'drop is the direction alot of people are turning, even Sun Microsystems with J2EE. (Look up Sun's Creator application and JSF technology - it may not be ideal but I would rather drag'n'drop that code in a flash!)

People want software deployed more rapidly and at the same (if not better) quality and we [developers] can only type so much before our fingers drop off. There will always be a place for text editors but RAD is what is being demanded - Design and Deploy.

I won't elaborate on developers trying to mind read corporates just so they get the first design right as I'm sure many out there have had the exact same problem - yep even after design, scope creeping is imminent.
