  1. Re:Give me a break on AT&T Vs. Apple Store At the iPhone Launch · · Score: 1, Informative

iPhones were not activated in ATT stores, you had to take it home and use iTunes like everyone else.

  2. Re:Petition? on Gameboy Advance Frontlight Success · · Score: 1

Why not just change providers to one that gives you what you want?

Because in this case, there isn't one, and there probably won't be for a very long time. Nintendo pretty much has the portable market cornered (more so in the US than Japan), so we might as well ask them to make it suck less.

  3. Re:um on Return Address: Arrogance, MS · · Score: 1

The problem is that the only mailserver that can strip the TNEF is Microsoft Exchange (although I could be wrong). True, one can simply tell Outlook to send plain text or HTML, but many people are just too darn lazy.

  4. Sega Channel on Sega Supports Emulation · · Score: 1

It looks to me like Sega is breathing new life into an old idea. This seems to take the basic ideas behind the Sega Channel, (where you could subscribe to the service and "download" the games that they offered to your Genesis and play them) and puts a more modern twist on it. Offering old Sega games for a small fee is just fine, but how do they expect to get away with offering bleem? You'd think that with all the stink Sony has raised over it already, the wouldn't want one of their direct competitors offering it on a rival console. Anyway, just my $0.02

  5. Not interested... on Microsoft Unveils Gaming Console · · Score: 1

The X-Box seems like a very nice waste of time for Microsoft. From what I've read, it's nothing more than a simplified PC, which really can't compete. Sony and Nintendo have hardware that is designed explicitly to play games, and play them well. Everything in their boxes is designed with this task in mind. Besides, Sony, Sega, and Nintendo already have huge followings, so it would take some monumental games to get people to move to the X-Box (esp. with the PS2 being mostly backwards-compatible with PS games). I think I'll pass on this one.

  6. Up to 1GHz? on Microsoft's X-Box Specs Revealed · · Score: 1

The article says that the X box will support "up to 1GHz CPU". Does that mean that it will be released with a slower CPU, but can be upgraded? That seems like the most feasible route, but hardly the best. Upgrades have a horrible track record in the console industry as most consumers simply can't be bothered to buy the upgrade. The whole point of having a console is so that you've got a box that is identical to everyone else's, and so that you can play ANY game ever made for that system (anyone remember the Sega 32X? wonder why?).

If this isn't the case, I'd certainly like to see how they're gonna give me a 1GHz CPU in a box for ~ $149.

  7. Starwars.com on Phantom Menace Pre-Orders Available · · Score: 1

If you don't want to order The Phantom Menace from Amazon, go to Starwars.com and order it there. I am sure there are plenty of other places to get it as well, but that's where I ordered mine.

  8. Good Idea on XMMS Plugin Competition · · Score: 1

I think the coolest plugin someone could make would be a free implementation of the QSound plugin. Too bad I don't know how to do it :)

  9. DJ Delorie on Candidates for 1999 GNU Free Software Award · · Score: 2

I for one would like to see DJ Delorie win the award. Anyone who brings development tools like gcc to Windows is cool in my book. Now that I think about it, DJGPP was the first piece of GNU software that I ever used. Ah...t'was so long ago...

  10. Re:cool! i want one on Zilog (re-)introduces the Z80 · · Score: 1

Actually, you're not quite correct. The TI-8x series of calculators DO use the Z80. It's the TI-9x series that use the Motorola 68k. Now, if I only had a spare $150 lying around, I could get me a nice TI-93 and all would be good.

  11. Deserved...From a certain point of view on More Star Wars Hype · · Score: 1

I love all the hype Star Wars is getting, but that's because I am a huge fan, and would be psyched if Lucas showed 2 hours of static on May 19'th. It basically breaks down to whether or not you're a fan. People either like Star Wars or hate it, and I can certainly understand how annoying all the hype can get if you don't give a damn. The simple fact of the matter is if you're a true fan, you'll love The Phantom Menace regardless of whether it sucks or not. And if you hate Star Wars...well, what can I say? You'll hate it. Either way, the hype will eventually end, and then everyone will be happy.

  12. Interesting... on Yoda Furby · · Score: 1

While I'm not a big fan of the whole Furby thing in general, anything that spouts Jedi knowledge and wisdom can't be all bad :)

  13. More games would be nice on Gaming on Linux · · Score: 1

I use Linux primarily as a working environment, and stick with the PSX & N64 to sate my gaming desires. However, I do agree that more games for Linux would be a great asset, especially since most computer games just aren't the same when ported to the consoles. Heck, the fewer reasons people have for using windows, the better.

  14. Remember, it's the software that's important on New Nintendo System · · Score: 1

Crazy new hardware, huge storage mediums, and full connectivity don't amount to squat without good software. Games have always been, and will always be the deciding factor in the fate of a console system. Hopefully, Nintendo will be able to get out more quality games for their new console.
