Less so if it only applies to software which is sold--a commercial Linux vendor would be liable, but Joe Developer who writes that email client and doesn't charge for it would be okay.
And you would start up companies exactly how?
I'd say that it would be deadly for all new companies.
BTW, the solution for companies is quite simple, refuse to sell or do business in a countries/states enforcing this.:)
Well, with the recent explosion of web based applications like Gmail, it was only a matter of time before someone developed the web-based browser.
Uhm, well, I'm actually working on a php based browser, with a modular back-end.
The main idea is to get automagic dynamic screenshots, but the idea is so perverse that it seemed like a fun/geeky/cool idea that had to be done.
Duh, I can't help it if you have an idea that taking a person to court is merely for my monetary benefit. That's YOUR flawed thinking, nowhere in my post did I suggest so. I merely said I'd sue this person for his wrongful act.
Umm, can you actually sue someone to prison? I'm not from the US, but I haven't seen anything like it in any TV show...
If you can't sue someone to prison (the kingdom come?), then that act should be for purely monetary reasons, so whose flawed thinking are you talking about?
If it's illegal, shouldn't you go to the police instead of sueing, to get them into court?
(Again, I'm from Sweden, so I've based all this on TV shows and slashdot/news-stories, and therefore is most probably wrong.)
If I was 12 and got caught doing something dumb like trying to log in as root like that, I'd just counter with the defense that I got the IP address wrong. "Oh, that waas your server? My buddies must have been playing a joke on me...he said that was his machine."
Actually, this happens a few times a month for me. My home connection uses DHCP to distribute addresses for subscribers, and as one of my home boxes constantly drops its DNS record, I usually scan the subnet and tries to login to every host that responds to 22.
I wonder if this'll get me into trouble some day?
...and the results are more printer-friendly too.
I just have to ask, why would you want to print as/. discussion?
I'm not trying to make fun of you, but I'm just baffled by the mere concept.
Me too, altough I ran it without any firewall at all, doing regular checkups to see if I had been hacked.
The only occasion was when some l33t dude tried to turn my ftp into a pub. (I just waited until he had finished uploading, said thanks, and killed the anonymous ftp user.:D )
I run Norman Antivirus and firewall, and since it's competent, it shuts down the networking if I kill its process.
Isn't this the correct way? Trojan shuts down the firewall, firewall shuts down network, trojan calls/dev/null.
Seriously, most Just-add-ninja movies should be on this list.
Just watch Ninja Terminator or Ninja Squad and you'll understand. (Altough you do laugh your head off as well...)
Well, whenever I download developer tools from Microsoft, I hit magical rates of 10-20 KB/s. And this on a good 10Mb connection.
It looks like they have good connections for their consumer downloads...
Would be great if they atleast had the optional torrent for their SDKs.
I've gotten 800-900 KB/s from tracker.netdomination.org when downloading gentoo isos.
I've got similiar rates from other sources as well.
I do get your point however, the normal rates for me lies in the neighburhood of 100 KB/s, which isn't as great...
Am I the only one who actually reinstalls linux 3 or 4 times a year?
It might be that I do stupid things while tired, "sudo ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -U world", might not be the healthiest thing to do...
For the record, I have currently two seperate WinXP installs older than two years... They aren't fast, but the do work. (As well as Windows ever works...)
I should know - I have yet to buy more than three songs from iTMS, yet my 30 gig iPod is all but full.
And if you bought some more it might be all but empty.
The only server that Google will block as a result of this will be his ISPs mailserver forwarding this stuff to Gmail. In general, forwarding e-mail from one account to another breaks a lot of anti-spam stuff (IP blocklists and header parsers for example)....that solves his problem. Atleast the spam part of it.
Check out http://www.embracingsound.com/, far more practical for home use.:)
(And yes, I've actually been to an Embracingsound demo, and IT IS far better than a 5.1 system. Even when A/B switching between them.)
We have Microsoft "creating" MS-DOS, Digital Research creating DR-DOS
Except that Digital Research created DR-DOS roughly at the same time as wussname created QDOS (Quick and Dirty OS), which became MS-DOS when Microsoft bought it. I'm glad that they've kept up the standards. (This is all based on more-or-less fuzzy memories)
How about RTFA and not just looking at the (pretty) pictures? They do notice and mentions it several times in the article text.
Yup, lets destroy OSX then! ...Wait, was this a bad thing to say?
Whoa, are you talking about *nix or Windows? I honestly can't tell!

invite@lapdog.se - Yes please, altough I was going to wait for the official launch. :)

Nah, real /.ers doesn't have a girl laying on the couch.
And if one would, he sure as hell wouldn't be checking ./!
...Microsoft just launched a lawsuit claiming that these Japanese guys just stole their whole business model.

Just a quick question, if the story's real, just how long would that take to initialize/format?

Nah, this'll be the best PS ever, especially when they renamed it Playstation 3D.
Yes, so if this was spoken and recorded, it would be a problem.
But since it's written, I think he suprised himself with the answers.
As Douglas seemed to constantly do himself...
