back when anderson and duchovney said they were leaving the xfiles, i made this post:
"I think if anything else happens with the show, it will spawn spin-offs. Kinda like Star Trek/TNG/DS9/Voyager. Other than that, the show is going to die."
right on the money, eh? it's post #63 <a href="http://slashdot.org/articles/99/10/06/164924 2.shtml">here</a> (for some reason, it won't let me link just the post)
the guy must be pretty well off. first he pays the domain fee, then he turns down the thank you check, and now he is matching up to $2500 (yes, he raised it).
and it looks like the charity is going to be Nashville's Table, a food for the homeless foundation.
personally, i would've just kept the check, and framed it for my enjoyment in the years to come.
and in case anyone is in the charitible mood, go here.
the seti@home client is the biggest crock. not only is it not fully optimized, but it is purposefully slower so that the turnover isn't as quick. too many people are running it, and there just isn't enough data to be processed. whereas running the d.net MAY (speculation) actually be doing some good.
I'm not saying seti@home is a bad project, but waaaay too many people are running it. cycles are getting wasted...cycles that could be used on d.net (and if you're real lucky, maybe you could make yourself some money)
no, it IS microsoft's fault. they (allegedly) wrote code into windows that made it specifically NOT run under DR DOS. You should read the basics of the lawsuit, buddy.
if you ask me, I would say they have one of the brightest futures. Obviously, redhat has THE brightest. And, I'm of the opinion that Corel has the dimmest future.
I did all of my "holiday" shopping online, and i received each and every bit. Actually, i received two microsoft intellimouse explorer, and i only ordered one. I chalk that up to the merger of Egghead.com and Onsale.com (i ordered from egghead) And let me tell you, it's a bitch to get customer service from that place.
I put my xmas list online so that my relativevs can look at it over the net, and I can update it whenever I think of a new idea. Plus, I've included links to places to buy it online. Everyone can feel free to look at it, though keep in mind, that it isn't all that impressive (I had to use some cheesy clip-art). Also, it might be a tad slow, it's running on a cobalt qube on a well used t1. And thanks for all the suggestions, I added a few today.

yeah, and from what I here on the Anand Tech "Hot Deals" board, cyber rebate doesn't have that good of a track record. check it: http://anandforums.gisystech.com/categories.cfm? catid=40
really? I had no idea there would be any problem with recursive power supplies. I've been running multiple upss for a while now, and haven't run into any problems. perhaps I need to move one over to another machine.
On the topics of UPSing, be SURE to put your router/hub/switch on a ups, or the rest won't do much good.
we'll just have to ask microsoft to make an IE client for linux. We'll just have to tell them it's for "winlinux", I'm sure they'll understand.
My personal opinion is that the mozilla project needs to focus more on fixing the browser before they add things like a html editor/news/mail reader. but since they've already added those things...mozilla should enforce a feature freeze on the current milestone.
Recently there was a wordlist in 2600 that is used for a program that supposedly helped parents figure out what thier kids were doing on the internet. It would records any instance of the word so that the parents could read it over later, I guess that was the idea..it was a huge list of crazy words.. and they even had to account for misspelins (faggot vs fagit vs fagget). it was last quarters issue, so I'm not sure if it's still around..
I'm really hoping your intentions are true to the cause, and you aren't just making a database of all the email addresses of/. users that send you mail for the purposes for spam.
I would think that bandwidth would be more of a consideration than the machine. Of course the server is a big consideration, but you wouldn't need that bad ass of a machine if you couldn't back it up with the bandwidth.
I think if anything else happens with the show, it will spawn spin-offs. Kinda like Star Trek/TNG/DS9/Voyager. Other than that, the show is going to die.

are you asking how much it cost caldera to develop DR DOS?
no, they didn't. you are thinking of Caldera Systems--different company.
