Add to that the huge volume of chemicals used to make the micro processors that Linux runs on. I believe that this "ethical clause" would simply eliminate the possibility of using Linux on any computer as the creation of computer hardware is massivly damaging to the environment.
Silicon Valley apparently used to be a fantastic fishing spot but now is barren of fish due to chemical pollution.
Additionally I would like to point out that the real dangers of the Shell corporation is not the products they create but their activities in African and Asian countries. Ordering the deaths of local activists who oppose Shells presence in their land.
I jump between GNOME and KDE2 (and enlightenment - with and without GNOME) frequently on box with 64MB ram with no noticible slowness compared to Win98 on the same system.
The Fugu is not best known for being a delicacy in Japan despite being poisonous if improperly prepared. Everyone knows Fugu best as the food that almost killed Homer Simpson.
("Fugu me!!!", "My expert hands are busy!!" and other great quotes).
And now back to my pointless existance.
("Give me an open face club, sand wedge"
"Hmmmmm, open face club sandwich":)
But I like wedges. Much better than just plain old fries or chips (depending whether you live in europe or america). MMMmmmmm. Wedges with sour cream and sweet chillie.
To all those people who are saying this is fake, or just another object projector, go to the company's site (http://www.3dmedia.com/) go to "visualizing" then "vidios" then "Virtual Touch". The operator there is interacting with a 3d image.
Well if MS "swiped anything cool" from a GPLed application, wouldn't that mean that the MS app would need to be GPLed as well?
Also, if the Java language became GPLed, would that mean that any java programs would need to be GPL also (after all, arn't all java programs linked to the main java classes and essentially derivative works??)
I think you might be missing the point of the GPL.
IANAL but I understood the GPL allowed charging for binaries. I thought that it simply insisted that source code for the software be made available to the customer on demand, ie available to people who paid for it.
Not to say that you can't give it away to anyone, but the GPL only INSISTS on giving source code to at LEAST paying customers. So even if the whole system was GPL, they could still charge you in the first place before they needed to give you the code.
(But of course under the GPL, I could buy a copy and then redistribute to all my friends for nothing).
Hi. I'm just curious, but being a Mac & Unix guy (gender neutral use of guy, just in case) I was wondering what you thought of Mac OS X??
Personally I'm a Windows (3.0) to Linux guy but am really into all things *NIX (including FreeBSD) where as my wife is really a Mac person (she studies Graphic Design and Illustration etc). So I'm trying to get opinions on the true BSDness of OS X, as I think that it could solve the problem of us sharing a computer?
So would you (or anyone else for that matter) know just how UNIXy OS X is. Apple seem to claim that the user should never need to see BSD, but if you want to can you get up to your armpits in bash shells and what not? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Actually, it says here that it runs on compressed air at speeds under 60km/h (37mph) and on "traditional fuel" at higher speeds. Actually a cool feature, to be able to switch like that...
Very cool but it actually says:
"A version of MDI engine can, in addition to air, also function with the use of traditional fuel; petrol, diesel, natural or town gas, at very low consumption levels. The change of source of energy is handled electronically based on the speed of the vehicle; e.g. below 60 km/h it runs on air and higher speeds it runs on fuel."
So this would indicate that the standard system runs on Air alone. And the BBC article says that there will be three production facillities in Australia!!!
You missed my point, FREE bread vs FREE speach. If you'd rather be dependant on the government to feed you and not let you express your opinions that's your choice, me I'd rather earn my bread in a country that lets me speak my mind.
2)Becoming qualified enough to fly one. You can't just let any fool fly an aircraft - they're dangerous!
I could say the same about cars. A friend of mine a couple of months ago was present at an accident when some old guy was hit by a car being driven by someone who was a bit mentally retarded, he had to sit with the guy to keep him from choking on his own blood for about an hour till paramedics arrived (this was in the country). When the para-medics left with the guy, my friend said he'd call the hospital later to see how he was and the driver of the car asked if my friend would call to see how HE was. That guy should not have had a car at all. Yet the most incapable people are allowed to drive up to a ton of metal at speeds of up to 100kph! This will not stop flying vehicle long!
We're looking at 3D traffic here. We've got at least a couple kilometres of vertical space to deal with before the temperatures drop significantly. Added to this the now-unobstructed horizontal flight path, and you actually increase traffic capacity by a factor of over a thousand, allowing for safety room between the flying packs.
You seem to be forgetting one important factor, these flying vehicles will be piloted by PEOPLE, not dedicated pilots but ORDINARY PEOPLE! You think too many people have problems following traffic code/directions now, wait till it's 3d.
"Whadd'ya mean I'm on the wrong level to get to the interstate"
"The harbour, well you gotta get two levels up, and head south, that'le take you to the waterfront."
Plus in the air, you can't conviniently mark routes, and some drivers have trouble maintaining co-operative traffic flow when all the've got to do is follow painted lines on the ashfault.
Could make road rage a bit less prevelant though.
"Why you, cut me off will ya, I'll just go over and kic... AAAAAAAYYYYYYYyyyyiiiiiieeeeeeeee.... [Thud]"
I would prefer to have a full belly than free speech. Wouldn't you?
Wow. Well, even though I disagree with the notion that governments are not about feeding the poor, that is still a thorny question to say the least. Would you really prefer a full belly, but live in an oppressed society? Bread or Human Rights? I'd rather Free Speech if it were one or the other.
Where can I get -credible- data to prove that Apache can outperform IIS?
I know I'm risking a troll rating here, but shouldn't the question be "Where can I get -credible- data to prove which is better?" If you don't have access to the information that Apache kills IIS, how do you know that it is, in fact, better? I'm not saying you should take Dell's advertising at face value, or that IIS is better, but you are presupposing the answer to the question that you (admittedly) don't have the answer to. I suspect Apache would be better on many, if not all fronts, but I don't have any data to back it up either.
Agreed. As Sherlock Holmes says to Watson: "Twist theories to suit facts, don't twist fact's to suit theories." (or something like that).
Firstly it's not Just your thoughts in fact their not thoughts at all, just a knee jerk reaction to the word Linux in an article. The word Linux doesn't even appear on the Frontpage blurb, you have to see the full posting.
Also if you bothered to go to the home page of the project you would have seen that it is an effort by a bunch of Linux enthusiasts to build a high-speed wireless network in some parts of Canberra.
So the mention of Linux down the bottom of the post is actually quite subttle. The article could have been titled Linux Enthusiasts Put Old Pay-TV Dishes To Use -- As A LAN as that's what it is really about.
Next to reply to Now if you're going to put up a tutorial on writing a driver for this dinky little device, or one of the "making-of" type pages; if you actually go to the link you'll see on the page the section:

If you want a good Australian beer try Cascade Premium, and if you want the beer that we all drink get VB or XXXX. They won't win any competitions but they do the job, and don't completely taste like piss.
VB!!!!!! Victoria Bitter is perhaps the worst beer in Australia (kinda like Visual Basic). I don't think I actually know anyone who would say they drink it. Cascade Premium not too bad, but here in Adelaide, the best would have to be Coopers. Especially their Dark Ale. Yummy. In fact I could do with one right now, all this VB is making me sick (Visual Basic that is, I'm at work). Although I tend to drink Irish/Scottish beers myself, all those ales like liquid silk. For me I just want a Spoon watch. In particular the Side Strap.
My m$ sources tell me that the recent 'stability' in IIS is due to analysis of Apache and copying the strategy
Not the code, the STRATEGY.

I think you might have some serious prior art issues with that one.
