  1. Eye Scanner on Exploits Circulating for Latest Windows Holes · · Score: 1

I know that this is probably redundant by now. But seriously what is the point in releasing a FREE scanner that is limited to 16 ip's. I have over 400 workstations that I was going to scan with the nice FREE scanner offered by Eye. GAH

This one really scares me, If some major sources of information for many people in North America are unable to use the english language correctly are we doomed to have it evolve into the crazy "Future" languages portrayed in some movies and books.

  3. Re:Does this mean civilization will ... on The Social Impact of Gaming · · Score: 1

This is happening all the time, a prime example is language, some of what was long ago slang for the youth is now common usage and even in dictionaries. The entire human culture is constantly evolving and that our generation accepts videogames and we pass them on to our kids generally implies that once our parents generation is gone video games will not only be accepted they will be taken for granted.

You do realize why no one is trying to get rid of those systems. Because there are other pockets making money of off the existence of such malware. And entirely agree with your statement about appeasing the industry. The problem is a law this broad and open to interpertation can be used to cover all more stuff than we are currently talking about, and I can see this getting dangerous in the future, Especially if the trend contintues along such paths.

  5. To many Standards on On The Current State of WiFi Security · · Score: 1

Is it just me or is WiFi becoming overfilled with different standards. It was just a couple days ago that /. had the story on 802.11n http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/08/ 02/1247236&tid=193/ now they are talking about .11i and we already have 3 different ones in use. I don't want to have to buy 4 different routers to ensure that every device I have works. I thought the point of standards was to bring everyone together on one format.

  6. Re:Short on Details on Windows Vista Tool Targeted By Virus Writers · · Score: 1

I think it is actually an upgrade, could just be that I am biased against MS products (on /. NEVER) and unfortunetly I have to use Windows for work, When I started here they gave me a new laptop with XP, and 3 weeks later I 'upgraded' it to 2k because I was having all sorts of issues, now everything works fine. I would upgrade from XP to 2k anyday,of course then I want to upgrade that to solaris.

Is this like the "Security Measures" in the PIII http://www.mdronline.com/mpr_public/editorials/edi t13_02.html/ Remember the uproar that caused?

  8. Re:Song prices on iTMS Launches in Japan · · Score: 1

Unfortunetly the RIAA and other such organizations want you to belive this is the Norm. I go to concerts all the time, I would rather give my money to the artist (who get a much greater percentage from concert sales) than the Record Execs (who take most of CD Sales). Besides new studies are out (I believe mentioned on here before but I couldn't find the article) that show on average pirates are buying music anyways See here http://www.tcervo.com/?p=156/ and here http://hbswk.hbs.edu/item.jhtml?id=4206&t=innovati on/

If your wife has never yelled at you over the phone in the office you obviously haven't been married that long. All this would do is reverse it, and I don't know about you but I would much rather look at my wife while she is yelling at me and my boss is yelling in the phone than vice versa.

  10. Re:Research on Microsoft Testing Rival to Google's Start Page · · Score: 1

Just a FYI you can drag stuff around the google page as well. And just how does the ability to drag things around make it way better? IMHO it's the content that matters not the positioning, and the content seems pretty standard on both pages.

  11. Re:Unless the game is free.... on Full-Motion Ads Come to Videogames · · Score: 1

Why do they have to let you know? Many games already have still ad's and there is no disclaimer. The thing that does scare me is the tracking, what if I stop near a coke ad a little longer than a pepsi ad? Is my spam going to increase based on that?

  12. Re:Why? on The Latest And Greatest Console Applications? · · Score: 1

At my work IM is banned, everything is firewalled and I have to setup a http tunnel to get ssh'd into my home box. I would rather have one window open and use all my apps on my home box than forward all the ports through my home box and run the apps.

  13. Speed Difference on Is the Linux Desktop Getting Heavier and Slower? · · Score: 1, Redundant

I run FC2 with fluxbox on a 900Mhz and do most of my stuff on there with no noticiable lag. I also have a newer laptop that runs WinXP. Right after I reboot the laptop things do run marginally faster than on my desktop, after a little while things start to drag and load times are easily double that of linux. Whereas FC2 stays up for weeks or months on end with know noticable change in load times.
