A significant number of people working at Facebook are not programming. They also hire marketing, sales, HR, management, support and lots more non-IT jobs. I wouldn't be surprised if IT personel were a minority within Facebook.
I'm still waiting for the NSA to put out a press release stating "this is for realsies, if you buy this you can spy on us and we can't do anything about it, pinky swear".
I know scanning the data from a yellow pages breaks copyright law, but using an army of typists to copy the same data from the same source is perfectly fine. How does scraping data from a website measure up, assuming all scraped data is available to visitors through normal means (i.e. not using security holes). At what point does using data from a website become "scraping" and at what point does it violate copyrights?
Obviously you're being satirical by pretending to be obnoxious, but let's just assume for the sake of argument that you were being serious. It's clear that I never advocated such a thing as "100% inheritance tax" or anything even remotely close to that. Nor did I even mention hand outs or welfare. Besides; that argument confuses the person providing the inheritance with the person receiving it. I was merely stating that inheriting billions of dollars (i.e. "sitting on your ass collecting inheritance") might mess up their perception of value.
He just gave away a $million to his "kids' computer education sucks, that's why we need more H1B visa's" fund. That's, like almost 0.0013% of his bank balance. It's like I gave away about $1.50 of my fortune and was lauded for it in the press as a philantropist.
His kids will inherit it, without having done any effort and not having learned about the value of anything. We all know what happens to spoiled little rich kids like that; they end up as reality TV stars or running for political offices. In the worst cases they end up doing both.
Exactly. This has to do with fabricating evidence for a fabricated argument used as an excuse for hiring more H1B visa workers. There is no shortage of qualified domestic workers, they're just trying to make it look like there is.
The fruit of his effort was winning the contest and receiving 100.000 shares (which was already worth quite some money). Having the prize suddenly jump up in value is a lucky bonus.
They should first finish the browser before trying to compete. Last time I checked, Edge didn't support desktop drag&drop, which all major browsers (including Internet Explorer) have for many years.
If the children only want to see the positives, why publically state he struggled with alcoholism at all? Perhaps they stopped publication of those parts because they ignored the alcoholism.
2016; the year of Linux-based, networked devices which do the downloading for you. It'll be exactly the same as before, but finally the remote user interfaces will improve.
Logo was my first ever programming language, even before I had a computer. It led to my parents buying me a computer and fast forward 30 years later I'm still programming both professionally and as a hobby.

He's been chosen for his ability to milk a trademark. Milking a trademark is under-estimated nowadays.

a national K-12 Computer Science crisis
Really? A crisis?
Who's going to die because of this?
What exactly did you fix? Seems like you've just hidden the symptoms.

In other news, a third grader threatened to commit mass homicide unless his demand for return of his backpack is met with due haste.
Some of us enjoy programming and think somebody else (like kids) might enjoy programming too.
Just because you hate your job, doesn't mean other people can't be good at it either.
Yeah pighead, stop being so intolerant of people intolerant of usability and accessibility.
If we can privatize law enforcement too, that just might work.

Something that is of no significance yet obnoxiously distracting.
what's the deal with high performing IT people and self-destructive behavior?
The vast majority of high performing IT people don't exhibit self-destructive behaviour and therefore don't make the headlines.

And somehow there are still people who feel climate change is not a problem...
Imagine this scenario; climate change deniers betting heavily against climate change, then using their losses to fight climate change.
