I'm sorry to say this, but for the love of god, ITS JUST A FRIGGIN NAME.
In his defense (and I can't belive I'm doing this), I would have done the same. I would have been just as upset about not being able to use my name. In fact, one of the reasons I don't use GMail is that they didn't allow me to use my handle -- the one I've been using pretty much everywhere, Slashdot included (the name of this account being pretty much the only exception), for years -- for login. So, if Blizzard had a problem with my nick, I would be pretty upset as well. And I would definitely write a short piece on the subject, trying to understand why I was so upset. And if I were in Taco's position, I would also post an editorial to Slashdot.
Grow up dude.p
Newsflash: he is a grownup. This is why he wrote this editorial, instead of, say, DoS'ing the WoW server he was on:H
Because a) there was no goatse image in the article when it went online (I know, because I happened to read it only a few minutes after it went live), and b) it probably sounded interesting (and credible) enough.
It was a hack. Someone replaced the article text with a goatse image. What I'd like to know is, who did this, someone from the outside or an angry webmaster with a sick sense of humor?
Actually, I don't think you even have to be pessimistic about the future, as long as you sound confident enough about what you say (and what you say sounds plausible enough). Pessimism sells because people want to know what the future brings, and the grim future is what they're offered. But there is no reason why predictions of a bright future wouldn't "sell" -- in fact, they have "sold" quite well. Images of Paradise on Earth is what drove the 19th and 20th century revolutions. But it seems that this paradise is not to be.
The public schools should focus on providing a basic education for those who have no other option. That is: reading, writting, and arithmetic should be the initial focus.
You're on the right track, but I think you're not going far enough. If it was up to me, I'd institute mandatory flogging for everyone going to school. That way, the only people (or kids) being educated would be the ones that really wanted to, and this system would produce only first-rate geniuses!
From the Moller website: Moller is currently working with the FAA to obtain certification of the M400 Skycar under the "powered lift normal" category./../ In addition, the FAA has established a "powered lift" pilot's license. This, together with a thorough familiarization, will be required to pilot a Skycar, primarily to ensure adequate flight management and navigational skills. So, to answer your question: they're working to legalize it, and you will need a licence to pilot one.
Jesus Christ, you had the patience to hunt for this worthless FP, yet you couldn't find the two minutes it would have taken to report the dupe? Pathetic.
Not that I'm complaining - the non-personal blogs, ones that write about technology, wider life, news, politics, and various other cool stuff makes up for the rest.
Who's said writing about news/politics/life in general can't be therapeutic in one way or another? Hell, I rarely write about myself or my feelings in my blog (yes, I have one). Yet the blog entries are always about something else than they seem to be about: they can be either not-really-saying-what-I'm-saying, or just motivated by how I'm feeling at the moment. But just because I'm not ranting about, say, how lonely I am or how bad my life sucks (neither of these necessarily apply to me; just picking two random topics that seem to be quite popular) it doesn't mean I'm not trying to "get something out".
It is, after all, pretty much the same as keeping a diary, except that you're (more or less anonymously) telling everyone about your problems. Which is, come to think of it, not that much different from telling noone.

And to think that I managed to make the same mistake TWICE...
Meanwhile, on September 29th, the 2005 Right Livelyhood Awards, also known as the 'Alternative Nobel Prize', were announced. (Link to RLA homepage)

There's a slight difference between an 'Internet-based library' and 'searching inside books'.

yuo mispelled "teh trolls"!
No, not at all, unless the presentation is about the strengths of Openoffice (or KOffice, etc) over MS Office.
Truth and knowledge serve more faithfully.
Past experience has shown that there's always more than one truth. Whose truth do you think should prevail?

Ever see an incredible beautiful girl, who is also extremely smart and has a great sense of humor. That were hopefully we are evolving to.
Admit it, you're saying this only because you would liked to have been born an Elf instead of this silly HumanFrom the Moller website: Moller is currently working with the FAA to obtain certification of the M400 Skycar under the "powered lift normal" category. /../ In addition, the FAA has established a "powered lift" pilot's license. I was talking to you, even though in hindsight, I should have saved that harsh tone for TripMaster Monkey (hey, at least your post was topical).

Unfortunately, the ones most vocally demanding freedom of speech are usually the ones with nothing interesting to say.
You must be new here :7 It was neither the first, nor the last time for a dupe to be pulled.
I guess it is now official: *BSD is dying :7
Firefox is finally catching up with the market leader! Woo!
Alterslash has been around for ages, but it appears to be broken right now (must be because of the code overhaul).
Don't you read the front page?
Must be the pirates' doing. Now you see what p2p can do.

Fuck yes! Anyone who's ever been involved in (or started) a flamewar will tell you how good it is for venting some frustration.
