Actually, I believe I read recently that determining race from DNA is pretty hit-or-miss, and lots of forensics labs won't even try (not just because of its inaccuracy, but for fear of sparking "physical inferiority" idiocy).
Just an FYI for those folks who don't know; baryons are a type of matter. Baryonic matter is "normal" matter - protons, neutrons, and electrons. Non-baryonic matter includes stuff like axions (still hypothetical), neutrinos, anti-matter of various types, and so on.
More than one person can read, yes, but not more than all the folks at this University can read - especially when you consider that they can't know what they'll want unless it's there.
Are the mods on crack? Clearly this post is a joke, as the parent that posted the original link posted AC. It may be a non-slashdottable version, but it is no more Karma-whoring free than the other one.
That tech is called Tempest, but it's very sensitive to the weather, other computers/monitors/sources of EM radiation in the area. It's also very expensive.
Right now, the.iq registrar is a Texas company (presumably) chosen by the Saddam regime. The new regime wants control - presumably so they can either run the registry themselves, have it be run by a local (Iraqi) company, or negotiate a better contract with a different country. Any of which would give them a better deal, and maybe even a cash flow to the government or the economy as a whole.
Actually, even if there aren't a lot of comments yet, people do care about this. Maybe this is one of those few topics intriguing enough that people are actually RTFA? (Hey, I can dream.)
Plus, look at iTunes. It's wonderful. Still has some problems (DRM, charging for "empty songs" in Dark Side of the Moon, etc), but we love it. The more the **AA embraces that, the happier I for one, and I suspect much of the/. crowd, will be. So your analogy is bogus. This giftfile project applies to the little guy - like F/OSS developers and indy bands (which have had some success so far selling CDs on their websites, going through Magnatunes, etc, this'll just be another method).
Why not use a university computer lab? Then you have total control. Or, take a look at everyone's laptop as it comes in. They can leave the card with you (like a coat check), or, if it has integrated wireless of some sort, let them use a spare desktop or laptop you've brought for the purpose.
You mean a Beowulf Cloister? And why is it I've never seen a Heaneywulf Cluster joke (Seamus Heaney's translation of Beowulf is one of the most popular right now, and it's referred to by many as Heaneywulf)?
Yeah, but the user interface is so bulky and clunky. It really sucks. I'm waiting for the 1.0 release.
The guy who got booted off AventureMail (2GB free) for trying to test their spam filters? The story is on Kuro5hin, if anyone wants to see it.
I'm still waiting until they release the 802.11 version of that firewall.
More juice? Why not say more wirewater?
It has all the signs of being free advertising. Especially since, with about 3 days gone by, there have been no bids.
And why isn't neura's name in the submission linked to his/her (ok, with an auction like this, probably his) account?
20% informative? Isn't that *over*-informative?
Don't you mean P'neer?

No one wants their DNA in a database, right? Maybe it'll act as a deterrent! (Laugh, it's funny)

They've been around since at least 1999 - see here.
But I couldn't figure out what this guy's software actually does. Anyone?
How about, "I bet he's running his server on it, too".
Because no one will ever RTFAs, even if they are a few centuries old.
You mean like in "Die Hard /w a Vengeance", where one of the terrorists is named "Herr Krieg" (Krieg is the german word for war)?

Why, do you already have the latex-molding infrastructure? *rimshot*

the fact that you are having a kid proves you are getting laid with some regularity.
... after all, "it's the *Virgin* Mary, Eddie. What did Joseph have to do with *anything*?" (Simon Birch)
Actually, it proves that she's getting laid

Yeah, eventually (maybe even soon) we'll need 2GB or larger cards for PDAs ... but right now we need larger sizes for digital cameras.
