well, i personally think you bring up some semi-valid points in your flame, so i'll bite and reply.
why are there still monkies around?
well, reason for that is everything on the planet is equally evolved, they just took a different road and edned up where they are, we took another one, and ended up as the "intellegent" life form of the planet.
Why don't dolphins have thumbs by now?
evolvution works buy addapting to conditions, thumbs would be of little use underwater, and likely would impede the streamlinedness of a dolphin.
well, technically, gravity is still a theory, as we haven't been able to test all applications of it in the real world, but as far as we've been able to test, it's been pretty much bang on
when the 12yr old is bombarded with p0rn spam
i hear you. i have had a personal vendetta against spammers since my sister started geting blasted with porn and "enlarge your dick" spam.
ayone got some cruise missles i can launch at spammers houses?
i can pull out a good support on this. how many people pirate books off the net? very few AFAIK.
why?
i personally find it much easier to read a real paper book, than i find to read it on the computer screen, or even on a PDA, even though it costs me $10-$30 to get the book and it could be online for free. thus, the book industry is in no dnager from piracy
simple solution to the problem, for the most part anyway, is to cheapen the product to the point where it is less than the ammount of time one would spend pirting it (time is money).
there would always be pirates, but this would cut out the mainstream thing right now.
i personally like the MMORPG maplestory, yes, it's a silly name. the site is
here
one thing i like about it, is that it is free, at least to play. at present, it's in public beta for the global version, but if you understand chinese, japanese, or korean, there is a release version of those languages already, which can be found
here
as i said, the game is free to play, but they have a creative idea on making money off it. in the game, there's something called the cash shop. there, you pay real world cash to be able to get unique items.
go ahead and give it a try. you've got nothing to lose, except maybe time, as this game is addictive.
CRTs kick ass over any flat-panel tech so far, except in the case where you need to haul them up two flights of stairs. and when they trip the breaker.
there are to two places where flat-panels kick butt. power and weight.
CRT kicks butt in price, availability
i personally can't tell the differance between the picture quality on a flat screen vs. CRT, either on HDTV or regular tv sets.
so, i'll take the CRT, and some ibprofin for when i need to move it.
that would be why on my livejournal, i checked the "block webcrawlers" box.
my journal doesn't appear on any searh engine i've tried, unless you specifically punch in my username, and then it only shows up as a link to my journal on someone else's journal.
natural disater wipes us out? maybe. i doubt that there is many disasters that can render the whole planet unihabtiable. a big asteriod, maybe. even then, it would have to hit on land which is maybe a 40% chance. in the water, you'd have a big tidal have, devistate costal areas, but leave the rest of the planet fine. on land, massive dust eruption, sunlight blocked, tempature falls, plants die, herbavores die, carnivores die, we die, provided we don't come up with a clever idea like an underground city powered by geothermal energy and hydroponics and such.
we fling nukes around the planet and send the whole planet into a nuclear winter? more probable, especially given the current state of the world.
i personally don't play play-to-play MMORPGs. there are a few free to play ones out there, like one i'm kinda hooked on called Maplestory. yeah yeah, goofy name. but it's a decent game, nothing fancy on the graphics, but it's still fun to me. and it's free.
the game's still in beta, but there are release versions in korean and japanese that are still free. the english is still being made.
to my knowlage, a global tempature shift happened much more recently, around the year 1000. the global tempaures rose significantly, up to the point that greenland was useable for farming.
i remember this as the (norwiegen) vikings (namely Eric the Red, and Leif Ericson) went there, then happened upon canada awhile later.
but, unlike in the US, they can't simply file hundreds of lawsuits against people and force them to settle as the people can't afford to defend themselves. in canada, the little guy cn actually take them to court, maybe win. maybe not, but they can get it into court, as here, IIRC, if the plaintif loses, they pay the defendant's legal costs. that really helps to curb frivilous lawsuits.
random statistic : 2/3s of US citizens will be involved in a lawsuit.(either suing or being sued)
for myself, the main reason i don't buy CDs, is that most of my music tastes are kinda oscure (ever heard of a electronica band called "zero 7"?) and the local music shops (nor iTunes and other online music shops i've looked at) don't stock those discs, so i gotta download em off P2P to be able to get the music i like.
this only removes the tax on MP3 players. the tax on blank cds and tapes remains. but hey, it's only $0.25. i can deal with that.
and the canadian court system already informed the CRIA (canadian RIAA) that they can take their ideas to sue and stick them where the sun don't shine, so this isn't gonna change that in a hurry.
it is already store policy for everywhere that sells video games in my town to have to provice photo ID proving you're over 17 to buy or rent any game rated M.
walmart, zellers, EB games, Radio shack, they all require ID to buy the M games.
this law won't change anything, as the stores already require it to cover their butts from a lawsuit. but the main problem is that the parents of junior don't look at the game before buying it for them, then they scream that the game is too violent.
you're the parent! do your job! don't expect the goverment to do it for you!!!!
exactly as i just said "as far as we've been able to test it, it's been pretty much bang on"
my physics teacher is already addapting physics to class interests.
when we were doing kinetmatics (study of motion), we studied the physics of football and skateboarding.

same differance. i consider spelling a subset of grammer.
what the heck do you mean "poor joke"?
thats pretty funny.
unless i'm off my rocker and forgot sciance class, wouldn't that reduce the water level, as ice has a higher volume than liqid water?
yes, but everyone does something profoundly stupid every once in awhile.
Knoppix is good for fixing the problem, regardless of whether the problem was caused by an ID10T error or an OS crash.
i can pull out a good support on this. how many people pirate books off the net? very few AFAIK.

if you can't be replaced, you can't be fired. but you can't be promoted either

i read the manual when....
the device is unlike anything i have had before.
if i have time before i use the device (as a passneger on the way home from the store, on the can, etc.)
need to find a techinal spec (moniter refresh rates, etc.)
need a password/etc. (wireless router)
if the item is a new game, i'll look through the controls/storyline/weapons list, etc, while the game is installing.
in the english version, the cash shop is available to look at stuff, it just don't let you buy the stuff yet.
i got 3 charecters. warrior, archer, thief. i've had to help my little sister with her mage far too often to have the paitence to have one myself.
just a quick question for you : what is the "exchange rate" of real money to game "cash"?

back in my dad's day (40's), a knife was a required piece of school equipment. there were no problem with people stabbing each other with them.
now you can't bring a fork to some schools without someone being killed. i know i'm exagerating (a little), but still..
something is screwed up in today's socitety, but i'm pretty certain that video games aren't to blame.
it's the parents not bothering to teach their kids old-fashioned things like right and wrong and such...
nah, it must be the video games!
would you be able to run 2 of these cards for quad-GPU?
*hopes*

i agree. i have been waiting for this to happen.
*waves goodbye to software patents* SEE YAH. DON'T BOTHER TO WRITE!
