i've read that "mpg" measurement makes less and less sense as cars get more efficient. (or more like it showing much smaller difference for further gain).
volume/distance (like in 6.3 l / 100 km) supposedly makes more sense - most of europe seems to use that way of measurement
the "article" was very uninformative. but lately on an opensource project blog lots of spam comes from "ovh dedicated servers" subnets. while it probably indicates doing well, it is not appreciated... blocked off a few subnets from them.
i've moved to opensuse on the laptop. lately i upgrade every two releases, just to keep fiddling with working system to minimum, while still running a relatively recent release. as i'm currently at 12.1... next week it's upgrade time;)
wahaha. i only opened this article to comment that it's an annoying amount of non-geek advertisement-like stories from dice - thanks for putting it first in a more humourous way:)
my search for previous adverts revealed lower right corner text "Slashdot is a Dice Holdings, Inc. company"
I know when I say my prayers for God to cure diseases and feed the hungry that God will be increasing mankind's knowledge of science and technology in order for this to happen.
he's one mean fucker, you know. he could have not introduced diseases and hunger. no human could ever be as evil as the christian god. that reminds me of heinlein's "Job: A Comedy of Justice", although "real" god is much, much more evil...
This patent is different, in that it allows Scheduling not only the day of a re-occurring delivery, but also the time. This is pretty significant.
are you fucking serious ? some "deliveries" can be scheduled for a specific month, date or day of week. it's garbage collection. and you think increasing resolution a bit to add time of day is worth a patent ? that sounds like research & development department for retarded amazon engineers.
it has nothing at all to do with actually pulling it off and being profitable. in a densely populated region that would be easier... WAIT GOTTA PATENT SOME SHIT ABOUT THAT.
it's a sad state of mental capabilities if one can honestly claim that it's a valid idea to patent.
i do find it a bit silly (assuming you are serious) to label people with a couple of labels and then tell them what to think. apparently actual users are more... real and different ?
hmm. ati has talked opensource for quite some time. at first the public was excited, but cautious - i guess by now many have been burnt and are suspicious of the results.
what did you expect ? everybody being cheerful, even if it's still not working ?
foss community does put their money in hardware that works with foss. what's the point in buying hardware that does not work properly ? company would just say "they are buying it anyway, no need to improve".
as for amd/ati, just look at all the problems with brighness control on their chips. it is great that they are improving, but they are still quite a pain.
ouch. it might work well with the short attention span / typing-disabled audiences, though... looks like twitter, reloaded. and i don't think very highly of twitter.
i have to say that the german "show id" policy is crap as well. try getting free wifi in germany without giving up your personal information. gema has germany by the balls so bad it gotta hurt.
why do the libraries fail to provide free wifi then ? around here, they do - ok, in most cases you have to sit outdoors, but in summer that ain't that bad:)
have you traveled outside of the usa, even recently ? try europe - in most cases you just walk through a metal scanner, keep your footwear and at most remove the jacket. ok, some airport personnel is more anal (haha), but that's more of an exception than a norm, at least for now.
seems to be pretty acceptable and safe (not very useful, but can we at least return to the previous level of silliness first...)
...have a connecting flight, like most visitors. not everybody gets the luxury of flying into their destination airport in the usa - from all my visits in the recent years i only had that joy once.
There are no scanners on the way into the U.S. You were either in the U.S. leaving (or an internal flight), or you encountered the scanner in the UK.
bulshit.
a) they have them in several airports in europe - but only for flights to the usa, from my experience. b) if you have a connecting flight in your trip to the usa - as many (most ?) travelers do, you get this crap on your inbound flights, even if they call further flights "domestic" (you have to pick up your bag in the first airport, walk with it some distance, then, of course, you are a threat again...).
even worse, there are airports in the usa where you get to pass this crap when _exiting_ the airport. maybe to use them a bit more and justify the expenses... (i don't recall specific airports where i've experienced this, but it was south-eastern usa).
And how many people have you met, who were good, law abiding citizens, that have been killed by cops?
it would probably be a bit hard to meed them after a friendly encounter like that :)
osm.org ?
it's not a legitimate complaint, it's a crazy totalitarian idea.

isn't that one of the basic rules of a police state ? everybody is always guilty. say something wrong, and you get prosecuted.
any incorrect or unfair law should be removed or fixed as soon as possible.
If that's the case were toast.
if it's the same level of spelling in the code, "your toast" indeed :>
why 70% ? who stole the 30% ?
isn't that the other way around - that is, pornography working as a healing/venting off (haha) method in places with fucked up mentality ?

on the second thought, did i just fall for a clever troll ? :)
it did sound a bit too unbelievably silly...

Although they tend to be owned by the church, using them doesn't usually come with any religious strings attached.
well, a meeting to discuss latest early hominid findings might not go that great, i suppose ;)

stephen, didn't expect you here. most visitors around here don't like your decisions, you know...
