I bet it's to prevent stat savescumming but that's REALLY not worth doing. It's understandable for something like PSO where they are worried about item duping (though that still failed due to cheat devices) but when it's just stats that's stupid.

    Street Fighter IV? False.

Some people mistook Capcom vs Tatsunoko for that AFAIK. There really is a new game but it's not SF4 and since the characters it's vs against are licensed to tons of different companies in the US it's unlikely that the game will ever leave Japan.

I doubt that. There's too many Lites out there anyway. This article claims that the DSi is designed to attract those who don't care about videogames (yet) and those people aren't likely to have any GBA games anyway so Nintendo is saving space and money by removing the connector (it already seemed pretty out of place on the Lite with the carts sticking out).

Nintendo dropped GB/GBC support from the GB Micro, this is the third DS iteration and again the backwards compatibility is getting dropped.

I do remember several Gamecube games using one file per savegame, no idea if that changed or if devs are just lazy.

Yeah, I hate it when games don't support Miis even if it's just for tagging a savegame with a user, inputting your name is silly when it's already in the system. Even worse are games that ask for the language every time they are started, apparently they don't save that. While it got reduced on the Wii and DS since they have a language setting in the system for some unfathomable reason some games like de Blob still ask every single time they're started. At least the stupid 50/60Hz question got abolished with the Wii's system settings, let's hope no third party is stupid enough to resurrect that...

  19. Re:Sounds disappointing so far on HD Wii By 2011? · · Score: 1

I don't think it's true anyway. While more hardware power is likely in the next system it's more of a secondary concern for Nintendo (they'll slap some in but not throw much money at it). If you read these there's pretty convincing arguments (though sometimes brought in a pretty annoying style) about what path Nintendo is following, what that involves and what that doesn't involve. To Nintendo more raw power is not a step ahead, they're developing into a completely different direction. Going for a pure power improvement would kill them, it would negate all the things they did right with the Wii (identifying that more hardware power is not needed much by the consumer and identifying underdeveloped aspects of consoles that consumers DO need).

In short, Wii HD would spell doom for Nintendo and you can be sure they won't do that.

  20. Re:Tell that to Sony on HD Wii By 2011? · · Score: 1

I think that was just the usual false promise, they said that mostly to make people repeat it on the internet as some reason why other consoles are inferior. While the PS1 and PS2 did live quite long after they were outdated I attribute that more to their success than an intentional plan, if the PS3 fails to take as much of the market I expect Sony (and especially third party developers) to drop it much faster.

Also didn't the NES and SNES live quite long after being outdated? Seems to me like it's only the "losers" that drop quickly, the N64, GameCube and Xbox were dead the moment the next system came out (or even earlier). I think it's mostly because third party developers are quicker to abandon a weaker (in the market) console than a really big one where there's still plenty of money to be made.

  24. Re:Rules are regularly a part of art on 'Systems-As-Art' In Games · · Score: 1

Let's not confuse our rules here, the rules media have are rules about how to design works for the medium (e.g. which frequencies to use in music or how to light a scene for a movie), the game rules are a part of the work that describes how the work works and probably compare more to the script of a play or movie or the instructions on a sheet of music. Complaining that a game is nothing but rules and content is missing the point anyway, a game is as equal to a rulebook as a movie is equal to a script.

  25. Re:Rules are regularly a part of art on 'Systems-As-Art' In Games · · Score: 1

Wasn't the hook of that movie that the scenes were arranged in a different order? Even scene-shuffled works (Memento is hardly the only one) are designed to be consumed in a certain order because that's how the knowledge is dealt out. If you read e.g. the scenes of the Illuminatus! in chronological order some parts would be nonsense (well, moreso than before) since they expect the reader to know things from scenes placed before them.
