If we are willing to shred the constitution over terrorism we are only aiding the terrorists who's mission is to destroy our great American way of life, which is due mainly to our unique idea of government and our constitution.

    "Who are you cheering for?"

I am not a cheerleader or follower. I am a U. S. citizen, a Texan who happens to believe not in a political party, but in our unique form of government as framed by the Founding Fathers, in freedom from a tyrannical government that does not value or respect personal liberties. As far as conspiracy theories... I don't recall mentioning the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Bush Family connection or the fact that the RBS sponsored the PGA tour although they do not have one single branch on U. S. soil. But if I were to mention a conspiracy theory that would be a good one to start with.

Our company has web hosting clients that have been with us for several years, who rely on us for the quality of support we give them. Because of this we often get involved in solving security problems related to their use of various Microsoft products. Of these Microsoft products we seem to spend a great deal of time supporting Outlook and Outlook Express issues. Many times we get support calls where the client can not send e-mail via Outlook or Outlook Express. After testing to see if they can send via the web-mail applications we provide, we usually find that the problem is due to worm or virus infections of the above mentioned Microsoft products and that they can send and receive e-mail via web-mail.

Has Microsoft any plans to make Outlook and Outlook Express more secure and if so how?

I migrated to desktop Linux about two years ago because of security concerns and found a whole new world of computing options. While looking back at my many years of Win-periences I can see there are other reasons besides security for MS to come up with a whole new software model to replace the Windows model.

What is puzzling me more than user complacency about the situation is the lack of confidence MS has in their self to take action before their user-base begins to migrate en-mass. The amount of money that MS has spent on things such as FUD and skewed studies to date (not to mention legal actions and pattens), could certainly have gone toward a new software model and would have a much longer lasting, positive impression on computer users than the current cycle of market domination via brute-force.

I have also seen Linux being used extensively by NOAA in the last few years for weather data tracking and forecasting. I run a combination of Linux, Mac and one XP PC in my lab at Texas A&M Agriculture Program where we run a network of crop-weather (Crop Weather Program for South Texas) stations and an extensive on-line decision support system for cotton growers along the Texas coastal plains. The servers are Linux along with my desktop and notebook, there are four Macs counting one notebook and one MS XP machine to run a Campbell Scientific application that communicates with the weather stations. If Campbell Scientific were to offer a Linux build of LoggerNet I would not need the XP box at all.

Ok, let me get my mind wrapped around your logic here...

--Timed out-- trying to understand why MS would not want to fully protect the existing user base and understand what exploits need to be fixed before releasing yet another flawed product that will require even more patches. Seems to me you are advocating that MS let security take a back seat to new product roll-out. That approach has always cost MS and their users much pain in the past. Why would MS users want more of the same?

That kinda kinky logic explains why I (a Linux user) get the calls when my local hosting clients need to clean and secure their networks after years of letting MS trained techs milk their budgets and leave them with slow running worm and virus infected PCs.

This case could set a president that may serve the entire nation in combating this type of malicious behavior, be it from small ad-ware firms or mega global corporations. By having such a big fish to test the new law with the Texas AG has a unique opportunity to provide Texans with consumer protection, his job.

BTW - The Texas AG has a rule that they must receive a minimum of 500 complaints in order to act on consumer fraud, if that helps in the estimates of damage.
