Had a bit of the same thing happening. Only I was fully aware that I would be dragged to the principal office for doing what I was doing. I knew I would be punished for what I was doing. That was the reason I waited till the teacher was gone.
Somehow the teacher was away longer then I had expected, so I stopped. We both sat down. When the teacher came back he knew something was wrong, because everybody was sitting very quiet.
It was pure luck that I did not get caught. I also was very well aware that if I was caught, I would have to face whatever punishment they would give me.
For me the valuable lesson become before I did the hitting: You are responsible for your actions. Look at the pro's and the con's and then decide if something is worth doing it. For me it was, even if they would have caught me.
Even if it were, people could still fork it. At this moment all distributors for Linux do what the Linux people want (broadly) but if they so desire, they could fork it and do whatever they like.
Companies do not get convicted of being a monopoly. They get convicted of abusing the power that comes with it. Don't like what Linux is doing? Fork your own.
Now, the reasonable, sane way to deal with this would be for the professor to pause briefly and say [...]

Unfortunatly nowadays just telling the students will have them answwr "Why, there is no rule that I must do that." and continue to disturb all of the class. Then the parents come and say the same thing. A bit like this as people can not acceopt that their kid could be doing anything wrong.
Unfortunately not as trivial as it sounds. A good step would be that the USofA starts using the chipset, like the rest of the world does. This would already help a LOT with stolen cards.
It is not as if they would say: please transfer X amount from creditcard Y to my own account. What they do is a bit more complex. They are pretty good in hiding sales under the radar. A way would be to verify each sale by an SMS or any other means. This will be extremely inconvenient for the user. As with DRM, it will harm the good user more then the bad user.
I think that is the implied motto for ANY business. Or are there companies that have as a motto "Do evil, unless it interferes with our business model"? Also, the definition of 'evil' might differ from company to company.
Take a stand. You can do this now or any other event that would allow this.
Set up camp for weeks to be the first to buy tickets, a new phone, whatever. See that there are a LOT of people and that there is a LOT of news coverage to see the hype when the store opens.
Then you and your few hundred friends go in one by one and clearly state why you DON'T want to buy a ticket. (SOPA/Copyrights/...) Have a clear statement ready for the press who will be there. And be sure you do this to a company who deserves it.
This idea is in the public domain and is intended for story telling only. Any resemblens of current or future events will... aw sodd it. If they want me as a scapegoat, THE MAN will fuck me over anyway.
I live in Belgium and we have the word record in government formation. I still prefere it to have a 7-way draft (Actually much more then that. 7 parties where invited to the table, some were not) That way I can vote pro-gun and pro-gay mariage and pro-abortion (or any anti or combination) if so much desire.
This will basically be precedent for this type of case (in Sweden). So I guess Google, Youtube etc etc can fall under being an accessory to copyright violation?
No, they are companies who are directed at marketing, so they will not be accused of anything.
As with everything it is supply/demand. The fact that you do not want the amount of money they ask for it does not mean that the business model is broken, just that sales is not a win/win situation.
If somebody wants to pay you 1UNITper hour to do work and you demand 8UNIT per hour, that does not mean the system is broken. It mean you have different views on the value it represents.
The fact that they made a shitload of profit should not mean anything to later transactions. You want to pay 1UNIT to see the movie. They want to receive 8UNIT to show it to you.
So at least one of you has to change their perspective to be able to close the deal. If I go to a pub and they ask me 8UNIT for a drink and I only want to spend 1UNIT, then I will not get the drink, regardless of how well the business is doing.
Perhaps the price they ask is directly related on how well they do. If they would sell at 1UNIT, then they would be broke very soon and not be able to serve me any drinks at all.
Well, the "Gotta Test Drive A Car Too!" defense is something I tried with several religions before I married, but they all disagreed that that is NOT how it worked. Weird.
You could say the same for Rubens Oh wait, not only was he filthy rich, he also put his name on the work of his students, thus pirating his own students.
Also Beethoven might have been rich today, that would not mean his offspring would be as well. His record producer would be and most likely he still would be dirt poor.
There are plenty of musicians today that are not rich. Some just like music more then they like money, just like some would never work for a specific company, no matter how much they like coding.
It is a pity that money is seen as the only proof of success.
Ask the Romans what they thought of violent games in huge arena's.
You must be new here.
Do you mean as an adult or as a country?

Right after all the other presidents that did the same in the past.
I am sure Pink Floyd will now sue them for all that they have over copyright infringement.

So we are indeed doomed.

Full ACK. Pretty insightful for a FP. Pity I don't have mod points at this moment.
The news factor of this is low, even for /.

Joy riding. (Yeah, I know, gas was used and some tear on the car and tires)

Now it is called Viral Marketing. They are very aware of it. Otherwise the videos would not be placed on YouTube by themselves.
