And there lies the difference. We look at the people doing the running, not the people that tell them how and when to run. In sports we do not look at the management, we look at the people on the field.
If you would compare that to chess, we would be looking how you move the pieces, not why.

Perhaps they think of "journalists" or a better name would be "news paper fillers". A novelist will be payed by quality more then by quantity. A newspaper filler will be payed more by quantity.

Just typing this short piece I went back 6 times to change (small) and I already knew what I wanted to say. (and changed 5 to 6, because I added the word small.)

How many places do need a login? Websites, computers, programs, ...
If all websites would use openID, that would solve already a lot. However many places give me my login and then ask me to change that every month. At work every first day of the month I change all my passwords. That takes me about 20 minutes.

So I have several passwords depending on level
    1. Generic websites. Lowest security level (e.g. Pa55word)
    2. Work related. These will change every month and will include some sort of year/month where only that part changes (e.g. 10Work12 for this month)
    3) Provider related pass word for email and connection (Resused semi-random 8 charcater password)
    4) Personal password for local system and openID and banking(Reused semi-random 8 carcater password. Different from 3)
    5) Secure password for encryption, ssh and the like (Loooong semi-password of at least 16 characters.)

So the moment I am forced to change passwords where I used first 3 or even 5, I will go back to less secure of 2.

The main problem is that each security person treats their security as if they are the only one and treat security with the standard error. Solving a social problem with a technical solution. It is very hard to explain people that changing passwords every month will LOWER the security.

It is the nature of people to find the way of least resistance and as long as security people do not understand that, nothing will change.

I sometimes feel that it is not about security, but about reliability. Reliability is moved from the IT department to people who do not understand security, because they 'did something' and now it is not their issue anymore. That is why they also look only to the security of 'their' system and not at security as a whole.

Police and people driving Ambulances are talking about increasing the noise levels of their sirens because many people do not hear them. The reason is better sound insulation in cars.

So on one hand manufacturers will be trying to reduce the sound inside, while the government will ask them to increase the sound outside so it can be heard inside.

And this is just because of sound insulation. I am not talking about people walking around with iPads or having the music too loud.

So I would suggest that there should be LESS sound coming from cars. That would mean less sound insulation. If all is quiet, special things will be picket up better.

Please do not start about bikers. I live in a student city in Europe and they are terrible. In most (all) European countries bikers and pedestrians have more right of way, because they are the weaker group of people. I am all for that. That means that there is a positive discrimination towards them and people in cars should pay more attention.

That said, the bikers also should understand that it is NOT a free card to do anything they like. "But I had the right of way" does not look nice on a tombstone.

Even more importantly, when looking at the weakness, pedestrians are even weaker, yet they the bikers NEVER (and I mean I have not noticed it happening one time in 10 years) stop at a crossing out of their own free will. Instead of stopping, as they should, they (try to) go around people and then look pissed of that they had to do that.

The only reason they stop is if I (or some of my friends) jumps right in front of them. If they are lucky, they say sorry, if not, they will hear why they should have stopped.
