"You must be either an American or an Albertan.
Real Canadians basically trust government. I know this is hard for you to grok, but it's true."
Not sure where you're from but that's just plain wrong. I am a real Canadian and I have NEVER trusted my government, nor yet have I seen one in power that I even liked. And it isn't like I'm some barely old enough to vote kid either. I remember as a kid when Trudeau was elected. I remember as an adult how he, and every leader since him (except maybe Joe Clark, who wasn't around long enough), have bent the Western Canadians over and fucked us. At least Trudeau had the guts to be up front about giving us the finger.
I had wondered why I got no response from my MP in regards to a letter I had written concerning the last Canadian Copyright story here. It is all clear now as I see his name on the list of fucktards who came up with this crap.
Funny how a guy can be really good with some ideas (dismantle the long gun registry) and totally stupid about other things (copyright issues and the fact the shitheads south of our border are pushing their adgenda here).
The yearbook students and staff at the schools will likely still need to work in CMYK as that is what the yearbook publishers require. I know that I looked into using the Gimp here at the high school where I work and once it was decided that CMYK was required the Gimp was out. Doesn't mean that they can't have a couple of machines available for use by the yearbook people though.
NeoOffice works fine on the Intel processor Macs. It is a bit slow on a PowerPC though. Perhaps the copy you downloaded was corrupted or something. I opened it up after seeing the above comment and it italicized just fine for me. Now when compared to MS Office 2004 (or whatever the newest version is)NeoOffice just flies. It takes at least five minutes for Word to open on my top of the line MBP and about 25 seconds for NeoOffice to open. MS Office is of course running under Rosetta, but NeoOffice is running under Java. Even on my G5 Power Mac Word is dog slow, I type and then stop to wait for it to catch up and display what I have typed. Of course it is MS and we all know how Mac users feel about MS software.
From reading your article and this thread I can't say that you really gave the Mac a fair shake.
Not only are you an asshole, pardon me I'll take that back you are an asshalf - it would take two of you to make an asshole, you go on like you are fucking retarded.
You just can't seem to get it through your head that some people for whatever reason don't listen to the fucking radio. You claim you like music of all types, so how many tunes do you have on your hard drive? I have more tunes on my hd than most radio stations know exist, right now about 43,000.
I don't listen to radio unless I have to, or want to catch the news when I'm away from my computer. And you know what, I hear new music every day - on my radioless fucking iPod.
So if you can't live without radio don't use an iPod, pretty simple.
I work as a "Technology Assistant" in a high school and I can guarantee that this is a fact. My job is to help teachers and students with technology, which means anything from software to running the performing arts theatre in the building. Teachers are, for the most part, absolutely against having to learn anything. When we upgraded our computers recently we went with some newer versions of various software packages and you should have heard the whining.
I use NeoOffice on my MBP and my PowerMac at home and it is totally fine for just about anything the students will need. As far as things like the yearbook and school newspaper, well they use Indesign for that anyway. Another time there was copious amounts of whining to be heard.
Originally Russian, immigrated to Canada, made loads of money running whiskey accross the border during prohibition and then fought amoungst themselves. Bought themselves semi-legitimacy by owning Seagrams Distillaries. Not many years ago old Sam was classified as one of the richest men in the world (before Gates).
You know it's funny you should mention that film industry people like Apple. I work in a performing arts theatre and at least 80% of the laptops I see are Macs, including mine. See I also do video work and a bit of audio for fun. I can hook up with a USB audio converter (M-Audio) and record live music, I can plug in my Pro-Line Panasonic video camera and import and edit video. Or I can connect my digital still camera and have iPhoto or Aperature import my pix. I have used Windoze boxes for video editing and they fucking suck, just like they do for anything other than gaming. Almost any creative person I know or work with uses a Mac. The only time I see Windoze laptops are when the Ballet comes to the theatre and plugs in to my lighting console because it is easier than reprogramming my console to do their show.
I might also mention that I am the assistant network admin at a 1200 student high school where the only Macs are in the video editing classroom and under my arm (or hands, depending), AND I do whatever I need to on the network from my iBook. All this while listening to my iPod shuffle (512 M) for at least 8 hours a day, usually more.
AVG still has a free version, you just need to look a little harder for it on the site. I just installed it two weeks ago on my 70 y.o. father's new laptop.
Actually, where I live in Saskatchewan, the only months you can almost count on not have to watch snow fall from the sky are July and August. You know what they say, what doesn't kill me makes me stronger.
And next time Europe needs soldiers they can go fuck themselves!
Ozzy is coming to a city near me, in Canada, and his tickets are $120 apiece.

My MacBook Pro has a two prong power supply.
You are a fucking idiot! It has been quite a few years now since the Americans did "anything" good.

So take it back from them. I always thought that was the whole idea of your experiment in Democracy.
