Somebody should have listed that there was a minute long advertisement before you even get to SEE the interview. Closed it, sorry. Not wasting time on that.
I've been living in the same neighborhood for 5 years. College town.
The weeks after school gets out to when their leases are up and move off for the summer (this year was 3 weeks).
Rash of break ins. Cars. Houses. Empty houses looking for loot.
Same time. Same 10 block square radius. EVERY YEAR. Between 1am and 5am. Since I work at night, I'm up late, I see and hear things.
How hard is it to predict that? Should they be spending more time patrolling the area during this time of year to 'predictively prevent' this rash of crime? Instead of parking their donut eating asses as close to the bar strip downtown patrolling for DUII's?
I don't need a bunch of tax dollars wasted telling me what is going to happen when I've seen it for myself and KNOW it's going to happen.
is why we will never get a cure for cancer or anything else.
10 people out of 1000 died because they had an allergic reaction to the 'the cure'. But millions of lives are saved.
BUT GOD FORBID THOSE 10 PEOPLE DIED.
I hate being a part of the human race sometimes.
The things that prevent thousands of dying from polio, or mumps, or measles. Those 3 idiots sue everyone and make medical costs go through the roof. Their snowflake died. OH NOES.
Let's dial back time to the cave man days. Squirt out your puppy without anything. In this day and age, without all these shots they'll sue. Give them the shots that prevent premature death, they'll sue. Squirt out your snowflake and it dies in a car accident because you didn't properly secure it in a car seat in a car accident. It's not YOUR OWN DAMN FAULT. It's the car, or car seat manufacturer, or McDonald's or AT&T because the coffee was too hot, or you HAD to txt back your BFF.
Welcome to Idiocracy. The future is now. Nothing is your fault.
The gene pool needs a lot more bleach. I'm personally going to recommend Napalm. Hell I'd even godwin this one. It's time.
have you played any of the top end games lately? FIFA? Madden 2010? Civ? Spore?
The options are getting better every day as developers start further embracing the touch method as a platform.
There's some damn cool games now. MYST I loved when it came out, the touch version is a wonderful adaptation.
And that's just the tip of the touch platform.
Go play your original NES some more and tell us that's good enough. New tech is here now, it may not be good enough for YOU, but it's good enough for the other 40+% of the tactile gaming market on portable devices.
And it's not going to stop there.
turn off the Whispernet 3G service and put your own damned books on the thing. I've done so (200+) courtesy of Gutenberg. Just because they can remotely nuke your 'bought' books, you're more than free to put whatever you like on the device. I'm also pretty sure using the Stanza software you can ALSO convert any PDF into readable documents onto the Kindle as well. I enjoy my ebook device. I don't need Amazon to tell me what I can't put on it.
the S60 OS is so f'ing outdated, it's not even funny. Google should write the replacement. A lot of people who have newer phones with semi-decent processing power are essentially getting no benefit whatsoever from new tech as the mobile phone as a platform moves forward. Who has built a new phone OS recently? I know there's a linux 1 or 2 running around. Symbian has been around awhile. Apple developed a new one from the ground up. But what ELSE is out there? Nothing. The Mobile Phone OS market is ripe and uptapped. I completely hope Google puts something out there that might get the ball rolling even faster downhill.
One of my clients today purchased a brand spanking new iPhone at the Pioneer Square Store (downtown Portland, OR). Brought it to the office. Activated it through iTunes, ran the firmware and it insta-bricked it. There's just something wonky with this firmware update. Apparently Q&A didn't thoroughly test it enough I'm guessing...
On the bright side, Mac OS X 10.5 will be out next month. At least somebody around these here parts still knows how to develop an operating system properly.../ducks//SLASHIES!
What the hell is with you people and playing MP3's on your phone?
I've been doing it for AWHILE. I downsample them of course...
I have a SE K700i. It plays MP3's. some of which I use for custom ringtones for certain people who call me, or for groups of people! the do not answer before 10am crowd gets a certain ringtone, my party people friends get a different one, the girlfriend {GASP I READ SLASHDOT, I KNOW WHAT A VAGINA LOOKS LIKE WITH MY OWN TWO EYES THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE PORN OR REFERENCES TO MY MOM) has her own ringtone... all MP3, none paid for or retarded polyphonic stuff.
Bluetooth is kickass, but not fast enough for EDGE yet. Hell, the US isn't anywhere NEAR Euro or Asian G3 yet.
My K700 can play MP3's over it's speaker, and it ain't bad. It also doubles as an FM radio. And an Alarm CLOCK, and it has all the contacts, calendar events, etc sync'd via bluetooth. It's a crappy camera, but good enough for a quick shot when I'm not toting around any camera at all. It also does voice recording, where a 5 minute recording is good enough, it lets my laptop jump onto the web via GPRS. and the list goes ON AND ON AND ON AND ON. IT DOES a ton of stuff.
the battery lasts 3 days, 1 day if I'm on the phone every other 5 minutes and using it for all those other things constantly. But I don't. It does 'enough' and it does it damn well. If you want a phone that goes everywhere and you only use it as a phone, fine. You get your free whatever phone from your provider and you don't bitch.
ME? I want a phone that does some of this stuff. I don't want to have to bust out my PDA/Laptop to check my calendar to see whomever's birthday it is while I'm on the bus... Or send a quick email. Or plugin a headset and use it as an MP3 walkman, or an FM portable radio... I want a device that does ENOUGH, good enough. If Apple can make that? as well as they made the iPod? I'll pay 500$ for it. I've paid more for less. Hopefully they'll be able to make something right.
IN the meantime. Go buy yourself a sidekick, or maybe an Ngage, and an iPod, and a cell phone, and a Palm and shove 'em in 1 pocket. My phone does all those in one small form factor, and it does all good enough. For now...
FOR NOW.
There's cool stuff comin' round the corner. All you people need is a little more patience.
~patience is a virtue... have a little, you might one day be considered a virtuous person~
Honestly? It's a game. You purchase a license permitting you to play said game.
Some people pirate it and then get their accounts killed. If you buy a legitimate copy and follow the directions, I don't honestly see how you could get banned.
Then again, the people who are whining are the ones you used a NO-CD crack, or using an outright illegal copy.
Go Figure. The people who whine the most are the people who don't like paying for things.
Oh wait... this is SLASHDOT, not Fark.com. What am I doing here?
and people wonder why Columbine happened. My two cents in are that fscking with the wrong person and having them snap leads to one having a bullet put in their cranium.
You'd think kids these days would learn, and that society would pick up on these kinds of things. Apparently not. And just wait until some little bullied brat brings a AK47 to school and wipes out the entire football team for spamming his cell phone with txt messages.
this will will get shot down if it's ever 'enforced' legally.
I recall using the Apple IIgs and certain applications had a rather Macintosh OS Finder like interface. And one had to double click things to make 'things' happen. IE: Launch an application etc.
So prior art will shoot them in the face... then again, Microsoft invented the internet, the GUI, and viruses... so might as well say the invented religion, politics and the world as well.
Stupid patent office, somebody seriously needs to beat down whoever runs that joint.
I've been doing it for a year... My P800 plays WAV files or 3GP files. I've been exporting from Quicktime and blue toothing them over since the T68i came out. Anybody with half a brain and a modern cellphone can do this... I guess everybody needs a single utility to accomplish things for them now to make something 'mainstream'.

^ This.
as in the whole IT Department for say 10 days at the same time... and let them figure out how much an hour of each of your time is worth?
Oh yeah? YOUR MOM
