I believe it was the "highly successful xbox team"
But I'm wondering if the mean the same xbox team that I am thinking of. If it is, then they better check the numbers again. (Yes, I know the numbers are old, but they are still relevant.)
The Acer didn't have the same specs as the MacBook, it was 2.0GHz and the MacBook was 2.16GHz. Yes, the systems that you have given have the same specs, but not the ones from the article. And the Acer didn't lose by much (1 second) in the photoshop test, and beat the MacBook by 30 sec in the Windows Media Encode. Granted, the graphics drivers aren't ready for the Mac, but does that matter for encoding processes? That only affects (don't quote me) graphics output to the monitor.
I know for sure I'm not going out anytime soon to get a Mac (my Linux/Windows setup works just fine). And with a price tag of close to $400 more for the MacBook, the Acer seems a little better if you're running windows only.
What I would be interested in seeing is similar tests done on the MacBook (or iMac) with MacOS vs. Windows. That should be the real comparison. Now that the playing field is essentially leveled(all intel), better comparison results can be derived.
I'd prefer to go by the content rather than the name. In which case: Mac = Beef (Generally considered higher quality, costs more (for better cuts, anyway)) Windows = Pork (We know it's not good for us, but we eat it anyway) Linux = Chicken (Readily availible in multiple flavors/types, but not always considered 'quality' (i.e. we have Steak Houses, but no sit-down fancy restaurants devoted to chicken. and KFC doesn't count.)
And I guess by my own count I'm not eating enough beef.
Thanks for the link to that- I was taking this guy seriously before I read that. But I guess you can't help the people that don't want help. The jackass wouldn't even TRY to make a live cd!
It depends on where you live. Six months ago I was living in the Bay Area and making mid-40k's. Now I live in the panhandle of Texas making low-mid 30k's. (Granted these are both right out of college, no exp., etc.) Even though I am making less money, I am effectively making more because of the cost of living. If I were to take a job in the city (S.F.) I might have been making $60k, but not be able to afford a house.
Where do you live, if I may ask, that allows burger-flippers to make $8-15/hour?
Add Media Center functionality to that list. If I can't use the MCE remote to change the song or video, it's not for me. And adding the 'buy me now, because you can't go fullscreen without pro' feature really struck a chord with me. I mean, if you want full market penetration, give me at least what I can do with similar products. If you can't do what WMP or RP does for the same or less cost, then don't bother.
Besides, it's easy to match a "games-per-unit" sale when you don't have very many [good] games to begin with. The 360 STILL doesn't have a 'must play' game to offer. Sure, it's got some games with good graphics. But there isn't anything groundbreaking or innovative(or exciting for that matter) that is making the majority of gamers want to go out and get one.
Will the PS3 have that? Maybe, maybe not. Does the 360 have that? Not yet.
Now that you mention it, I find this thread shallow and pedantic.

Golf in Space

And what's with calling golf a sport anyway? In the past two weeks, I watched the Super Bowl, some of the Winter Olympics, college B-ball, and pro hockey -- and you know what? Those people were involved with sports. I also went to my gym, and saw plenty of weight-trainers, bodybuilders, and Tae Kwon Do students. These people participated in sports too.
One could argue that the emphasized choices in your list aren't sports as well (with the exception of a few events in the olympics).
Sport
n.
1. a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
b. A particular form of this activity.
With this being a definition of sport, golf would easily fall into the category. One could argue that bodybuilding, running/track, skating, swimming, etc. would fall closer into the category of competition. Interestingly, eating competitions could be considered sports given this definition. Eating heavily is not only physically taxing, but is also governed by rules of time and courtesy (knocking your rival's plate on the ground would surely disqualify you).
On a personal note, I have a friend that holds the definition of sport the same as above, but with the addition of the ability to play defense. Without the ability to play defense, there is no offense. And with no offense, he argues, there is no sport. To him, offense is not besting your opponent by.004 seconds. My fiance argues against this (she ran track in HS). To her, something as physically taxing as sprinting/running is considered a sport. I disagree (with both my fiance and friend). To me, a sport has a ball in addition to the guidelines and rules. That is why I think that golf is a sport, but swimming is not.
And here we reach the root of the issue. j/k I have this argument with my fiance all the time: she is on Verizon and has a great connection all of the time. I am on Cingular and have a great connection most of the time. She is not able to download her own pictures from the phone without going through Verizon or voiding the warranty to use a USB cable and "hack" into it(it's not really hacking or cracking, but just using a different piece of software to analyze all the phone's files and replace them). I, however, can upload/download whatever songs, pictures, videos, etc. between my phone, computer, or other phone by using IR, Bluetooth, or the MemoryStick.
Oh, and the.mp3 had to be renamed.mid before it was put on the Verizon phone(an LG7000 I think), and the songs.txt file or something of the like had to be deleted for the phone to recreate that file and recognize the new song files.
Well, I have had similar experiences(not neccessarily funerals) in which I needed a replacement. My Cingular store was more than happy to help (after looking up my number and seeing how much we pay per month). I had unintentionally broken my jabra earpiece and went in for a replacement. I told the guy that it broke (without lying) and he threw it away, grabbed one from the shelf, and I was on my way. This was before a 1300 mile car trip by myself, and I needed to be able to call people and talk during that time. I think it's all dependant on the store you go to and the people you talk with.
'caught up' may refer to the increased space by the others, or the recent attept to re-design the mail interface. Before gmail I had a harder time tracking previous conversations if someone decided to deleted the quoted text. If Yahoo were to include a design like that, I might go back to using that account.
As others stated, GC has the whole nintendo game universe...
One thing the PS2 has over X-Box is the release of games like GTA 3/Vice City/San Andreas months (if not a year) before the x-box release.
But for a list of games...
-Kingdom Hearts -Gran Turismo (the series) -Jak & Daxter, Jak 2, Jak 3, Jak X racing -TimeSplitters (the original) -Tiger Woods (2001,2002) -Hot Shots Golf (the series) -Oni -Resident Evil (series)
While this isn't a complete list, these are games that I was able to play (or play before) on PS2. But you've got Halo, so that's all that matters, right?
Thank you for clearing that up.(I'm being 100% serious) I need to write a letter to my HS biology teacher about that. When she taught evolution, she taught it as the beginnings of life, and life changing. Basically she taught abiogenesis and life forms evolving all as evolution.
You're right about teaching the concepts that underlie science. There were way too many experiments done in science that didn't really explain why something happened, or why it was important. It was just repeating back what happened (i.e. c = a + b, rather than why a and b together make c)
And if you believe 2+2=5? Should you get straight A's in math and go on to become an engineer?
If math was a subject that no one knew the answer to, then yes. But we do know that 2 + 2 does not equal 5, so it is the wrong answer. Saying that we evolved from a primate species millions of years ago is no more correct than saying that it happened thousands of years ago. Why? Because you weren't there millions of years ago to watch it. It can't be proven. 2 + 2/= 5 can be proven.
Why is there even teaching about evolution as a way that life started? If it's just a guess, it's only as good as the next guess. Why can't we show what we know has evolved since human history has been recorded? A lot of people have been saying 'If it isn't fact, don't teach it'. Well, evolution as a way of life isn't fact. It's just a guess, leave it out and teach more photosynthesis!
But what happens when an assignment is given on how we(humans) came to be? I had one like this in high school. The purpose was to show what we've learned about evolution, and how it applies to how we 'evolved' from primates. But if someone doesn't believe that evolution is representative of how we came to be, how does that come into play?
In that class, one was marked down if they didn't regurgitate what the teacher said. Does ID belong in the classroom? Maybe not, but grades shouldn't suffer because I choose to answer the assignment how I believe.
Anywhere from $5-50, depending on the type of FM transmitter you buy. I bought a Belkin on e-bay a year or so ago and it's pretty good as long as the source is close to the reciever.
Some people don't seem to get their rebates. I've had bad experiences too, but mostly with the day after thanksgiving/christmas rebates. I heard there was a class action suit against Fry's- anyone have a link?
Other people don't turn them in at all. In this poll (however inaccurate) only 80% of people possibly turn in rebates. Even at that rate companies have incentives to sell items with rebates. Why not raise the price a little, offer a rebate, and make money off of the people that don't turn them in?
While you make a valid point about the RCC, you mention Christians in the same boat as Catholics. They are different, and interpret the same book a different way.
In my opinion, they are still far off from that claim. Sure, making Windows updates is a step in the right direction, but they still need to fix things like viewing their news video clips in firefox, as well as supporting tabbed browsing.
My gf has to have her homepage set to MSN, and any time I see something interesting and scroll-wheel click to send it to a new tab, it loads that page in the current tab as well. I know that it's hard to provide support for everything, but MS is trying a little too hard to be incompatable.
As this person states, the xbox 360 will be able to handle the devices. Whether the games can hande it (or the system recognize them for game use) is a different story.
I have to admit, this thing seems pretty cool. I've been a PS2 guy since they came out, but the geekability of this system might change things.

I think blatently lying while keeping a straight face on national television pretty much covers the polygraph...
