Constitutionally limited democratic government is what makes the modern western world work.

We're still owed the spending cuts congress agreed to in order to get Reagan to increase taxes (much less than he previously lowered them).

Next time a congresscritter suggests: 'We need more money now, we will cut spending tomorrow' they should be laughed out of the room.

The 80s were still pretty slow adoption, it was the very late 80s and 90s where the (computer industry/office automation) boomed. Remember DOS? remember netmare?

It's not that hard, attempted suicides are pitiful cries for help, often done in silly overdramatic ways.

Nazis were clearly marxists, by their own words and actions. But not actually leftists (per the left), just like the USSR, Red China, Cambodia, Venezuela etc etc. No leftists anywhere.

They didn't have to throw a swamp at Bernie, truth would have done fine. The dude took his wife to Lenin's tomb for their honeymoon...Bernie was playing at being mainstream. He was unelectable, even worse than the bitch.

Where do you live that your poles are 300 ft apart? Rural poles might be 300 ft apart for simple runs, urban less.

You can't assume the poles are empty. Linemen have to deal with the lines already there, and make sure the new lines they put up aren't blocking access to anything important. Deal with surprises they find on the pole and adjust plans. Sometimes move another service.

Half an hour per pole? That will cover the 'butt/head scratching' and 'looking at it' aspect.

A mile/day is insanely optimistic, based on the speed I've seen crews moving down the road putting up wires.

Of course you could just assume a 'crew' has 4 trucks and 36 workers. Than maybe.

Decades ago, I was quoted 10k$US/pole to put in new poles and power lines in the Sierra Nevada.

  21. The UN has set 'best practices'.

These include: Paper ballots, clear ballot boxes, immediate counting, boxes and polling places secured by representatives of all interested parties, voter registration, picture ID, Ink marking of fingers.

I'd be happy with that here in the USA...but picture ID is racist or something.

The devil is in the details, paper ballots are worse if it's not done right. e.g. Ballot boxes being 'found' in the trunk of a partisan's car, right after one party finds out exactly how many more votes they need. Partisan counters 'voting' in the counting room. Ballot boxes that start the day half full. etc etc

They will have a hard time catching Europeans that put their hosting overseas, much less actual non-EU citizens.

  25. Amtrak has always been insanely subsidized. Passenger rail _sucks_ for areas with low population density, it just can't compete.

American freight rail is better than Europe's, by any metric you care to pick. Because our rail system is optimized for freight, not passengers.
