  1. Amtrak runs on freight lines for all but Accella, where it runs partly on freight lines.

    The only profitable lines for Amtrak are in the NE corridor. Perhaps a few short, extended commuter lines. The rest should be shut down, yesterday.

    Do you want to know how I know you've never taken Amtrak? Cheaper? No, more expensive and much slower.

    Amtrak has a _few_ sane routes, and a thousand insane ones that should be shut down, yesterday.

    Doing a disservice to the poor. Amtrak sucks, expensive and slow.

    But good news, they can get on planes and the nation can get on with _cancelling_ the money pit Amtrak routes.

    Less than half, of work. About 0% of gaming...have you seen HTML games? Pretty much any tool where I have a choice, the native application is better. The only exception being mobile apps that are just thinly wrapped web pages.

    Ellison wasn't right, a web browser is way, way fatter than the thin clients Ellison was trying to sell, which were glorified X terminals.

    We were the adults that had to fix Europe's mess, twice in the 20th century.

    Guarding Europe for them was simply judged as cheaper than saving their ass a third time. Sure we made mistakes, e.g. when France demanded their colonies back, as the price of getting them into NATO, we should have told them to fuck right off.

    America is, in a way, following Europe in their downward slide. But don't kid yourself, you're a century+ ahead of us, in that respect.

    The whole developed world has underfunded the baby boom's retirement. There are exceptions, but they're rare.

    In the USA we've taken the SS trust fund off book, but are requiring dying government agencies (e.g. the post office) to fund their employee retirements. In England they've taken _all_ government retirement funds off book.

    Read with critical thinking hat on. Why don't they mention the numbers for 'automatic' stimulus built into English laws? What agenda does this article's 'owner' have?

    The brits pissed away comparable money in 2008. Obama's money wasting didn't even really get started for years, then went mostly to croneys and connected.

    The EU, in general, spent more money on stimulus and recovered slower.

    You deny that the Reagan boom raised tax revenue much more than the Reagan tax cuts lowered it?

    History, learn it. BTW the Reagan boom lasted until the end of Clinton's second term.

    You know _completely_ different old money people than I have. The _parents_ only coping skill is typically 'throw money at the problem'. How are those parents going to teach actual coping skills to their kids?

    With new money, the person that earned it, is somewhere in the picture. Old money, by definition, means they've never known a family member that works for a living. But they think they have, define 'golf' as work.
