  1. Re:Should I Stay Or Should I Go? on Star Wars Galaxies: JTL Release Date Confirmed · · Score: 1

I played SWG for about two months until I got bored of the game. I started during the FilePlanet free trial a few months ago and I was not impressed with this game. There wasn't much to do since the game is mostly grinders and exploiters.

I was tempted to wait it out until JTL was released, but I just couldn't find anything fun to do. Now that JTL is about to be released, I will not return to the game. SOE's reputation of not listening to the SWG gaming community is very poor. They did add content, but none of it was really fun, meanwhile, all the looming problems that most of the community wanted to fix remained as a problem. I suggest you don't go back to the game and save your money. I don't see SWG lasting too long.

  2. Re:Because you need a TEAM on Why Are There No Sports MMO Games? · · Score: 2, Insightful

There are enough gamers out there to make teams for this. Battlefield 1942 (Desert Combat), and Battlefield Vietnam have 12-man leagues that play year round. The top leagues will have between 20 and 40 teams fielding 12-man teams atleast once a week. Organization would not be the problem for a 11 or 9 man league as Battlefield has proven. I'd be more worried about gameplay for a MMO Sport Game.

I would not want to play the same posistion for an entire game, especially an offensive lineman in football or a catcher in baseball. One of the best parts about sport games is that you get to do it all and not just play one posistion.

The CPL will figure something out that people will come watch. Though sooner or later people are going to realise that 1vs1 multiplayer games went extinct awhile back, atleast it did for me. I haven't really played a good 1vs1 game since the orginal UT.

    Maybe a 1vs1 Lemmings tournament...mmmmm...nuke'em.

  4. Info On Battlefield 1942 on Battlefield 1942 Makes It To The Mac · · Score: 1, Insightful

I thought I would drop a line and let those curious about the game know something about it. I have played Battlefield 1942 since the demo and bought the game the day it came out, so almost two years now. I have put in tons of pubbing and match game time with the game and I recommend this to any multiplayer fps gamer.

If you do not plan to play this game online, do not waste your money. The game was built to play online and the single player is very boring. As for multiplayer, well, it gets an A+. Battlefield 1942 is the first game that really integrates infantry and machinery warfare (tanks and planes) rather nicely. EA/DICE has patched the game eight times and is now version 1.6 so almost all the bugs have been quirked out.

The game is almost two years old, but you will find lots of servers and lots of players still playing. It has a slight learning curve for tanks and a large learning curve for planes, but once you master any of the vehicles I believe you will find tons of fun with this game.

  6. Not A Good Idea on EA Sports to Kick Off Fantasy Football Website · · Score: 1

I am a very avid gamer and I love fantasy football. I play EA games all the time, especially the Madden series. I do not really see a market for this kind of thing. I have done real fantasy football for about five years now and I do not see any personal enjoyment out of doing a fantasy league based on online gaming.

I personally do fantasy football because it allows me to get more enjoyment in watching football games on TV that do not involve my home team. Basically, if there is a game on TV, chances are there is a player on one of those two teams that will effect the outcome of my fantasy match-up that week, hence a reason to get into the game. With that said, I would get no enjoyment watching others play Madden 2004. I would rather just play myself.

It is true that graphics play a big role in the popularity of video games, but to me it has gotten a little out of hand in the last year or so, especially with first person shooters. Every other FPS that comes out is the same style gameplay of Counter-Strike, but with better graphics. I have personally gotten old of CS gameplay and so I moved on to Battlefield 1942 two years ago. Now I have gotten a little old of that, especially after wasting my money on Battlefield Vietnam, which was basically the same gameplay as Eve Of Destruciton (Mod of Battlefield 1942), but with better graphics. In the end, the better graphics was not worth the money. My point is that creating a fps based on another fps gameplay, but advancing the graphics is never worth the money in my opinion. Hopefully Half-Life 2 will add some new dyanmic and different gameplay than games of the past. I know the original Half-Life not only changed the way fps graphics were done, but it also created a totally new type of gameplay. The software designers should stop being lazy and start being iventive again instead of spending all their time on creating new code that only makes something look more real. Whatever happen to the genius people who first created Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Quake, & Half-Life? I refuse to think that all the gameplay types viable to be created in our graphics world have all been used up already. Shoot, I find the original Super Mario Bros (NES) more fun than some of the fps games coming out now.

  8. About The Game on Americas Army Releases Special Forces 2.1 Update · · Score: 3, Informative

I have played Americas Army since the first public release came out over a year ago. This has to be one of the most unique games in existence. Its realism is unparallel to any other game. Each patch that the Army has produced for this game has made the game better and more enjoyable to play. If you have not tried out this game, you really should. I warn you though that it does require some patience and the game has a learning curve (learning the maps is extremly important and takes some time). There is also an honor system in place which rewards the veteran players. The more you play, the more likely you are to select your weapon of choice. This helps with reducing TKing and just overall gameplay. Now stop reading this and go download the game if your bored of the same old FPS. Americas Army is defitnely a nice change.

It is no surprise to me that Pokemon came in 2nd since the Japanese really went crazy over just about everything the Pokemon company put out. Not that it did not happen here, just about all the 10 year olds I coach have some toy that is made by Pokemon or one of its spinoffs. I personally thought Zelda would have had higher numbers. The whole Zelda series is the best group of games on the planet. I can still remember the first time I played the original Zelda on NES. I couldn't put that game down. It was the first of its kind and for me, it was the first game I ever played that made me stay up all night. The first of many sleepless nights brought to me by Link & the master sword. If only more game titles now could capture the essence of fun that the Zelda games did. I still find the original NES Zelda title more fun than most games now and that's not even my favorite Zelda game (my favorite is "A Link To the Past" SNES).

Every time I have ever sold my old games I end up buying new ones at the same time. The only reason I sell the new games is so I don't have to fork money out of my pocket to feed my gaming addiction. I could personally careless if the software companies only make 20 million off gamers this year instead of 22 million. If they cannot handle the fact that most of the gamers out there live in a free world economy (i.e. can sell and buy what they want) then they should do something about it. If it costs too much to develop such technology for their software, then they should prepare for the consequences that come with gamers that sell thier used games. In the end, the software companies will still make tons of money off all of us as long as they make a good product, just like every other good company in any field business.

  12. Re:What about turn-based strategy on the list? on CPL Announces $1,000,000 Gaming World Tour · · Score: 1

You will never see this happen. The CPL generates most of its money from the spectators that go there to watch or go there to play at the BYOC. An RPG or turn based game would be very boring to spectate and therefore would never bring people into the massive LAN. You will always see FPS games in the CPL because of their high appeal to spectators. If you have ever been to a LAN like the CPL you would agree that FPS are by far the most fun to watch. People like to watch CS, and as long as they do, CS will be the major tournament at the CPL. I'm not sure you will see this tour thing be much of a success. The top gamers in the world can average out about $40k a year, which is a lot to most 17-22 year olds, but after that, you can't make a living off of it, which in turn makes it near impossible to participate in a world tour like the CPL is suggesting for too long.

  13. Too Many Consoles on Nintendo To Debut Next-Gen Console At E3 2005 · · Score: 1

I haven't been a avid console gamer since the release of the N64. After that there seemed to be an explosion of consoles and with that the major software companies got too thinned out and game selection went down with it. I don't believe a gamer should have to have three gaming consoles just to play the best games out there. Lately you see more software companies generating their games for all three of the major consoles (Xbox, PS, NES), but by having just one console you still miss out on some of the best games out there. I miss the old days where if you had a SNES you had the ability to play 90% of the best games. With that said, the console companies really need to work something out with software to pull me away from PC gaming, especially since consoles still cannot come close to the flexibility that PCs bring. In the end, it seems the consoles are trying more and more to be like PCs.
