    the sadder truth is that Disney probably won't keep the characters alive in 3d... they'll be redrawn in standard (cheaper) cell animation like the adventure of buzz that come on VHS with some of the new toys.... it is teh suck

    None of them set their prices to achieve a certain profit margin.
    They set their prices to what they will beleive the market will bear in order to maximize their profits.
    If people would rather steal it than buy it, they are holding the price higher than demand justifies.
    Having a copy of the game stolen is the same market influence as a lost sale.
    They're just using laws to prop up legitimized price fixing.

    yes. a single legitimate use is enough.
    tools need not be banned.
    tool banning isn't effective anyway.

    can you conceive of an existing intarweb app that can't be used to violate copyrights?
    squashing p2p would push pirates back to ftp, http, usenet, etc.
    squashing those? still got IRC, email
    squash those too?
    now expect to be playing whack-a-mole as new variants of torrent, kazaa, edonkey get invented to meet the demand...

    I can't offer a solution other than pointing out that the old world business models are dying.

    Not only was the original design not very dense, but the board was a tiny part of the package. The power supply board was pretty big, the disc drive was a thick design, and there was a huge hole for the harddrive.

    Why restrict olympic games at all?
    There's no significant difference between gene tampering, doping, and selective breeding.
    It's not like keeping it natural is going to make it so that almost anyone could get there if they only tried hard enough.
    To make the games interesting the contestants should be chosen at random from the general population.
    Rather than determining if our best is better than their best we could try to determine if our average Joe is better than theirs...

    I'm not having any more luck getting developers to incorporate self test, bounds checking,
    and testability access points than I am trying to get my kids to eat vegetables.
    Even tying bonuses to it motivates few.

    I think the entire medical campus should be thoroughly networked. but that doesn't mean that anyone on campus should be able to receive non text emails or cruise the web. the air gap firewall should be between the medical campus and the outside world. if they need to move digital data in or out it should be reviewed by knowledgable security staff and then transfered across the gap via sneaker net, might I suggest a $1 DVD+R?

    Medical machines responsible for human life should never need to be patched. The software was tested at one point and should be controlled to stay at that test point until it is to be retested. For machines running windows this means they should be segregated from other parts of yoru network and should be airgap firewalled from the rest of the world. Intenet worms and email trojans shouldn't be relevant.

    hehe, yes, I understand that it can't be done. My point is merely that the same laws and the same morality protects regional distribution that protects other copyright infringements. you won't stop people from downloading doom either

    then why do you suppose they are trying to stop you?

    If someone like NBC tries to stop you from doing
    something it's pretty likely that you're farking
    with their business model.

    BTW, they do care when you watch the stuff and what you watch with it.
    Really, think about it..
    Why do you suppose they don't webcast all of their material?
    related; where did the webcast radio stations go?

    When you circumvent regioning protection to view something in a manner that isn't approved by the rightful distributer you're violating the same copyright laws that bar downloading hollywood crap as well as the DMCA.

    Long story short, even though they are giving it away sometimes and somewhere doesn't give you the right to take it without permission or to redistribute it.
    Stealing free sh1t is wrong too..

    Usually I support the pirates and get pretty beat up around here.
    Now I'm looking at a full page of posts detailing how to infringe on these distribution rights.
    Is this a major flip-flop or are these posters different from the usual crowd around here?

    I agree; I challenge these wholly owned politicians to explain why they aren't banning books, magazines, VHS tapes, email, usenet, and www.
    Any media can be used to distribute this and any other offensive crap.

    first, banning one thing does not justify banning another.
    second, "potential for harm" is so subjective as to be a worhtless measure.
    If it was reason enough I think we'd see the banning of archery, BB guns, biochemical warfare research, nuclear warfare research, nbc weapon development, nuclear power, lawyers, politicians, FOXnews, cable TV, Ben Affleck, gambling, tobacco, democracy, capitalism, single-parent households, prisons, email, metroplex class settlements, right to assembly, etc...
    Of course, among these the only bannings I'd actually support are FOXnews and Ben Affleck...

    hehe, I'm in dallas, but would only have to ride 2 miles.
    I ride a motorcycle instead; much safer.
    On either of those conveyances the comfort in the summer heat can only be dealt with by going as fast as possible, the way nature intended.
