Good luck testing those extensions, I just lost most of them in the upgrade!

Remember, checksum is just to make sure the file is what it should be and that it's OK to use, google for info. In Linux you may or may not meed a utility as most distros now have it built in.

  3. Medical Implications? on Flying By Brain · · Score: 0

I wonder what the medical community will think of this. What benefits could there be? Could we create a 'smart brain' to control different things via a computer, a computerized nanny perhaps? I for one am both fascinated and horrified as the possibilities of this.

What's next, 'smart brain' controlled Futurama quotes in /. headers?

Wow, yet another anti-spam solution out there. I wonder how this stacks up to the other ones out there, looks good so far. SPAM SPAM it lasts for years, either meat, mail, or canned.

  5. Ahh, so this is why they never answered on Google Desktop Search Functions As Spyware · · Score: 0

Hmm, I always knew google wasn't being completely honest with their 'software'. I have been using the google toolbar for awhile and using my packet sniffer I kept seeing packets being sent back about my activity although I chose the setup which would not send any data back to google. E-mail to google about this went unanswered.

I also notice that this sounds strangely famaliar to what Real Networks did (read http://grc.com/downloaders.htm) back around 2000 with their download program and Player.

  6. Me Like Firefox on AOL Builds New IE-Based Browser · · Score: 0

Hmm, what should I do, use IE which develops so many new holes that it should be called The Titanic or use something like Mozilla Firefox which has few holes that are patched when needed by a notification when you start it up.

  7. You guys are slow on New Google Toolbar Brings Browse By Name · · Score: 0

C'mon /., I noticed this like 2 weeks ago. I disabled this feature of the new google toolbar because I use 'search from address bar', ie: I type 'gg slashdot' to google for slashdot, you simply replace your search text with %s. This has been a feature of IE since IE5 with an add-on which puts "Quicksearch.exe" in your links folder, yet Microsoft did not officially supported it in IE6. I have noticed that the latest version of TweakUI XP has it under "Internet Explorer ->Search".

Any other ol' skool guys out there remember these? How about Kernel Toys and Power Toys for Win 95, they still work all the way up to XP! I love the Target function you can add to context menu for shortcuts, saves trip to Props then Find Target.

I wonder if Microsoft will start incorporating these old functions into Longhorn (dibs on credit if they do).

I remember that, I actually tried it out off a Win95 13 floppy set (I think). It did no good whatsoever and just managed to slow my system down. This was back in the day when I got Win95.CIH 74 posts to this article in less than 10 mins, rock on!

I thought Microsoft already bought (stole) the scandisk and defragment parts of Norton and put them in the latest version of Windows. I know Defrag in XP is straight from Norton. I wait for the day Microsoft's balloon gets so big it pops in a firery eruption.

  12. I wonder how many stars this hotel is gonna be... on Hotel Tycoon Pushes Inflatable Space Stations · · Score: 3, Insightful

Well, a 5 star hotel is considered the cream of the crop but what about a hotel full of stars? Now that I got your attention, inflateable hotels? What about all space debris floating around up there? I read that there's over 2000 pieces of space junk floating around up there. What would happen if one piece of space debris hit an inflateable part of this hotel? That would definitely be a damper in my vacation plans.

  13. Random frame rate? on Theaters vs. Camcorders, Round 27 · · Score: 1

I am just wondering, what about different framerates based on the amount of movement on the screen, something like 24-30FPS or something similar to help deter the smaller camcorders that people sneak in. If you imagine a CRT computer monitor flickering because the refresh rate doesn't sync up to cam the same could probably be done (or similar) to to movie theatre projections (as crappy as they are). Btw Hollywood, if you guys use this idea I want royalty fees ;-)
