To further blur the truth of that statement, Canada is not our country's full name - it is actually The Dominion Of Canada.

It was never officially changed, however, its appearance in numerous speeches and "big important federal documents" makes it an "essentially true" statement - but come on Dominion Of Canada. How evil sounding is that? We could take over the world with that name. By fear alone!

Of course, we have the weakness of just not really feeling like taking over the world, but really, what would we do with it anyways?

You are correct - it works ok. I was unclear.

It is necessary to mask Opera as Firefox in order for all the features to be enabled properly. Google has, on several occasions, made some workarounds to force detection of the "real" browser (cookies, javascript, etc) and this re-breaking Gmail.

But yes, it works ok now, if you mask it. Which i think it incredibly silly.

What i dont partcularily like is how Google prevents Opera from functioning as intended in man of their services - Gmail being the initial that comes to mind.

Im sure many of you would just say "Well, just switch to Firefox" but frankly, i cant stand that program. Regardless, i think its bullshit that Google has a browser sniffer that disables many basic features of Gmail, and continues to (seemingly) intentionally "break" Gmail for Opera users.

Promoting their own software is perfectly normal - what sane company wouldnt promote themselves over their own venues? Thats like a TV channel not advertising itself.

And my own revision of the kettle analogy:

"Kettle, this is my friend Pot."
    "Hey Kettle."
    "Hey Pot."
{whisper} "Hey, is it just me, or is that guy black?"

Too funny to ignore. I hope no one labels me a racist.

It looked good, it sounded and ran well, and (if i didnt have a lead foot) could get up to 25 MPG in the city. Of course, i did have a lead foot, so that didnt help much.

Certainly, hybrids and many other non hybrids beat that MPG easily - but i found it to be a very fair balance between the many variables.

The difference in your comparison is simple:

The internet costs money to maintain. Bandwidth costs money. Videos and music take up lots of bandwidth, and a very popular website getting a lot of hits is a blessing and a curse.

Speaking words to a friends cost no one anything - sharing an idea or telling someone a story, instead of giving them a link to the website which contains the story, costs no one anything.

I just dont think that the other two OS'es (Mac and Linux) are as immune as everyone thinks. Where there is a will, there is a way. Im confident that given enough time and talent, someone at some point would design a rootkit/spyware/adware for Linux that broke all the rules.

Im not saying it wouldnt be harder, or involve some bizarre weakness which would soon be patched, but how would that be any different from Windows?

The repositories are a very strong point for Linux, yes. But there are a few of them that exist out there for Windows - downloads.com comes to mind, as a (pretty) safe place to grab downloads, unless i misunderstand your meaning.

In short, Linux is great, for now. With the intelligent people behind the wheel, Linux is a bastion of defensable land on par with a castle. But as soon as you get Joe Average behind the wheel, everything changes.
