Being a young republican myself, im just as pissed off as you are.
I dont understand what is wrong these goddamn Republicans. Theyre communists in dusguise, or something. They have no concept of the basic beliefs of a republican-run government:
Maximum freedom, minimal government intervention.
When i was growing up, my Dad told me something that made a lot of sense:
"I would rather not let the government screw up my life for me. What would a bunch of out-of-touch old possibly know about running MY life?"
Im sickened by all the crap these Republicans are pulling. They are single-handedly demolishing the basic principles of a minimalistic government. And what the crap is up with all this goddamn religion? Im a tiony bit religious myself (nothing organized) but the second i hear about anyone telling anyone NOT to, or TO DO something, especially where religion is concerned, it makes me vomit in my mouth.
We should create a new republican party. Where we actually, you know. Believe republican things.
Maybe ALL politicians are evil. I really think they are - thats why im a republican. I just hate the people who represent me.
I did the same, but then i ended up saying to myself "Now what do i do?"
But, much like someone above said, to each his own. I like playing games, and most games are not available for Linux. Dont get me wrong, Linux is fantastic, but it just lacks that ease of use and get up and go that Windows has. And yes, the WGA thing does keep me up at night, staring at my computer, expecting it to try and kill me in my sleep. And then take my wallet.
I am more than frustrated with your lack of knowledge in this matter.
I cant imagine how PC integration would be important - cause, you know, you already HAVE a pc. But thats fine. I cant argue about your likes and dislikes.
Your other points are weak, because they totaly discount something based on "well someone else does it differently", which is lame.
And your backwards compatibility argument is a joke. The Virtual console has (or will have) almost every single Nintendo game ever developed, along with several other consoles from several other developers.
And the basic controller design has remain unchanged, and i affirm that the GCN controller and especially N64 controller revolutionized the basic controller designs to what we see today.
And no, Sony will be dead last, wondering who robbed him.
Mircosoft will probably be in a short lead. Yu can already see how things are panning out: Here
Its time for innovation to take the lead. Not "ooh, you can watch movies on me!"
Considering that every Wii sold, Nintendo makes 50 dollars, i would say that Nintendo is already ahead of Sony and perhaps Microsoft as far as profits go.
Also, Nintendos online system is said to be very robust, and the Channeling system is fantastic, and easy to naviagte. There are even some nice touches, such as the controller vibrating when you select a menu option, and several others.
Also, dont forget that Excitetruck allows you to use an SD card with music on it to play during races, so you even get that benefit.
And why isnt HD support considered a gimmick? To me, appealing to the minority of people out there (people with HD displays), and mindlessly pushing new formats, and insisting to the public that HD Graphics are here, even though any surveys or analysts will show that HD is still by far the minority, which is only further accented by Europe, where im pretty sure only 1 person named Wallace has an HDTV...
the 360 and the PS3 are pushing their graphical prowess as a gimmick. "Look at me! Im much more powerful than the rest of them! I can play music! And download files! And defragment your harddrive! And wash your car!".
Every single step a company takes is a gimmick to generate sales. The Wii's controller, Xbox Live, HD Graphics, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, the SIXAXIS. All of them are gimmicks. Some of them are more succesful than others - and i think the Wii will be the most successful gimmik of all.
By the way, i hear the photo editing software on the Wii is very very good.
And is it just me, or does it sound like youre talking about the last generation? You do realize we're not talking about the Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox, right?
By the way, the PS2's power was laughable in comparison to the other two consoles - and look at who won?
Honestly, i would buy the CD of every song i have downloaded in a heartbeat if i knew that it would actually lower the prices of CD's.
I actually had this conversation with my mother recently, and she agrees that 15 bucks for a CD is retarded. Part of the "high cost" is the staggering amount of profits publishing companies expect from each CD - not how much they are actually worth to the populace at large.
It all boils down to value - i cannot value any cd on the market at 15 Dollars. No way. Wether or not that is its ACTUAL COST is irrelevant - if it doesnt seem valuable to people for the price you have to pay, then people will find alternate methods.
A good example - i've been trying to find a copy of a game i fancy, but so far i can only find the demo. It's pretty good, but it costs 20 bucks to buy. Clearly some reasonable talent went into the game, but i doubt i will get much replay value out of it, as its essentially a beefed up version of Scorched Earth, so itll really be the same game over and over again, therefore killing its value. I would pay 5 or maybe 10 in a heartbeat, but not 20. So they lost a sale and now im looking for "under the table" means of getting it. Ironically, i've failed miserably, but thats my sob story.
Companies have started including easter eggs, video DVD's, and other goodies with CD's to increase their value, which is good, and works better than just staying "deal with it". Although many times, the extra content is lame, and when i get home and put it in my computer itll either install a rootkit, or itll be really lame.
Its not our job to bend to their rules. It is their job, as the provider of a service, to make us want it.
Yeah, im really glad the PS3 doesnt focus on having the best graphics. I mean, with an innovative, never before seen motion sensitive controller, the SIXAXIS, and its small size and low price, the PS3 is clearly the "lets all get together and have fun" system. Someone call Grandma, i think she'd like to play Call of Duty.
Clearly, the Nintendo Wii, with its copy-catted motion sensitive controller design, and being overly concerned with having "next gen" graphics, as well as many other "gimmicks", i can see the Wii flailing about like the PSP ad.
Ok, that was all pretty harsh. I did play fl0w (it was availble for the PC for a while), and it was very good. Im not sure if it was the full version or not, but it was quite short and i couldnt really imagine buying it.
Oh, and uhh, down with Sony and all that obligatory ranting.
As amusing as it may be to kick the underdog (I do enjoy making fun of French people), I do appreciate the work EFF has done, or is at least trying to do, for whatever it may be worth.
After all, they could be on the RIAA's side, in which case wed all be screwed.
You're probably right, although i think Al Gore himself would be a better substitute. After all, we have to take care of endangered species, and we must protect the ManBearPig.
So. Who wants to breed with ManBearPig? Im kinda busy this weekend, so i really cant.
I think the real issue here isn't necessarily attributed to Bush, but to all politicians. On Both sides.
I am a republican - but these people who call themselves such clearly do not understand the basic concepts of being a republican. The very idea for this bill makes that obvious.
At every turn a good republican should ask if what they are doing helps the people and minimizes the control the government has over the people. They are clearly not doing the latter, and the former as arguable.
But, i do not think that republicans exclusively are to blame - all politicians are scum, all of them have a thin layer of slime on them.
I wish everyone could see that, that it is not just Bush casuing problems - hes just the one who has to do it under public scrutiny. There are countless others doing terrible things to the government and the people it is his job to protect.
Honestly, i think its reasonably safe to assume that most prisons are rape-me-in-the-ass-prisons.
I mean, i doubt if someone is GOING to rape you, one of the other inmates is going to tap him on the shoulder and say "Excuse me, but we just really don't to do that here. Sorry. Take it to maximum security."
Thats all very amusing, but it falls apart when he said that Democrats where just as big a part of the problem as republicans.
Being a republican, this kind of crap pisses me off. These people clearly do not understand the basic principles of a republican take on government - they are interested in power, and give people like me a bad name. I believe in small government, and the maximization of freedoms as an individual, and increasing the amount of power the people have over the government, not the reverse.
What ever happened to small government? Low taxes? Freedom of choices? Freedom of religion? Seperation of church and state? (Although, i dont see much proof of that being a serious problem)
The two parties are after the same thing, every time. They are after power. They are not here to help people. And that pisses me off. I am ashamed of my fellow republicans, because they continue to do stupid things and say stupid things.
And, i cannot be a democrat because i disagree heavily with the politics involved in being a democrat.
Ive been using WMP11 for a while as well, and i do like it.
It locks up once very 5 or 6 hours - but it just comes with the message, terminates, and then it opens up just fine. And thats playing videos, and music, on random, with over 12 hours of files.
I dont think ive ever gotten the Linux media players to work properly - but IANALG (I Am Not A Linux Guru).
Perhaps the reason youre more willing to suffer the same problem with Xbox Live Arcade is because its a different application, a different type of entertainment.
Music and games are entertainment, but they fill different facets of the entertainment genre.
Also, a video game seems "worth" more to the average person - you can get more out of it. A song is entertaining for the 3 minutes its playing.
I would find it hard to believe that the big wigs at Nintendo just arbitrarily picked the price for the console randomly and out of thin air, or even better, after a heated game of darts.

Clearly, they are in cahoots with the giant bug that was found on Google Maps, not too long ago.
Also, I understand they are radioactive...
But do they run Linux?
On a more serious note, I find this fascinating - radioactivity is one of the least understood and possibly most useful sciences in the world.

Possibly even more, if one of them ends up liking it a little bit much, and gets carried away?
