I can't count the presentations i've been in where half of the time all kind of popups continue throughout a presentation. just plain horrible, and i'm saying this as a somebody watching the presentations. Lets not forget the countless pictures you can find online about info-screens/kiosks/etc. with some kind of silly popup displayed. Why do people keep using this? Just put linux/bsd on it, with plain X and the app in full screen mode and you'll get no popups, ever.
they don't need root? now shit is really going to hit the fan. when installing ubuntu on somebodies pc, it stays stable because they can't install any of that crap that you see every single person installing on windows. now they will be able to do so on linux too, opening the door to all kinds of nasty uncontrolled stuff.
Google has, how many languages that they developed themself available they can use? But still they would pick a language, not developed themselves, but by a competitor. And they would do this why? Because they didn't learn from the whole Java debacle?
Is this a good thing for OSS, that Snowden mentions it made what he did possible? Snowden may get thumbs up by most on this site, i believe the average joe takes the side of the government and think he's a 'terrorist'. What people know about OSS (if at all) is what MS and other companies have bombarded them with the last +10 years or so (communist, cancer, etc). So putting these two together, how will this affect the reputations of OSS more? might give the government more free play to limit OSS development.
i'm not a windows user, but followed the whole UWP debate here and on some other sites, not once did i read that benchmarking was THE concern eveybody had with UWP.
i hope they do better then python, the switch to python 3 is still going on, with so many people staying on python 2 because module x & y don't work yet on 3. If they can pull it off, perhaps the python community can learn from it and clean up the current mess they have on their hands.
indeed, you should watch some documentaries, it's clear that ET was just there when it happened but not the cause. atari made some very bad calls, some that are simply inexplicable. producing more games then consoles ever sold (what the??) is one of those. The company was losing money fast, and somehow put hope in ET being the hottest and biggest thing of that year to make up for some of that loss. When it didn't, the game was easily blamed for everything that went wrong.
10 times more secure of whatever then other android app stores, is still bad, it should be zero. We're talking about malware here, why is it even on google play? I wonder what the malware rate for the f-droid 'store' is? Screw this closed source mobile app world, it's even worse then what we had on windows.
The solution should be vendor independent and be driven by Google, as they make Android. Look, i can install linux on any pc i want, the distro does not care and will just update as new packages come out. The same thing should be done for Android, this is the only way. And it shouldn't even be that hard...
also other riders may have gotten the instructions to not follow his escape, there were still more then 40km's to go (in roubaix). ofcourse this is a gigantic mistake, because he's an excellent time trail rider and very strong in this type of race.
It goes back to the beginning of computing. I remember well on the Amiga that after a reset you could run several rippers that would pull out the gfx and music (as long as it was not overwritten) from memory of the game/demo you were playing. Later i saw similar programs in DOS for PC that did the same thing. Does the linux kernel zero-out the bits it unallocates? I don't know and would assume not, it's an expensive operation.
the real clusterfuck of UX design can be found in so called 'enterprise' software or in-house developed applications. my god, calling those horrible is still giving them too much credit.
What the? just don't connect your TV to a network.
Mine isn't, works just fine without it too!
the data could be called 'pain'.
they can hire some poor skilled soul to do that work for them.
3 movies?
It's Tetris, should be 4 movies!
What have you done!? don't give them these ideas!

just go vote to make sure he doesn't get elected, how difficult can it be?
How much electricity do all the banks in the world need to operate?

so true, you should see the stuff people are making on the c64 these days, boggles the mind.
Does somebody know if it will have SteamOS/Linux support from day 1? There is no mention of this on the site (or i couldn't find it).
... about a certain Emmett L Brown.

This story seems to have dragged a bunch of 4s out of retirement. I'm impressed.
good to see you guys again! :P

because they were not as good as he was that day, it happens, it's sport.
unless you are a die hard MS shop, why do you think linux still needs credibility in the enterprise?
