Seems like Steve Jobs learned a lot from his past dealings with Bill Gates. Anyway, i like this story a lot. It should be an eye openered for the Jobs fan boys that he wasn't all zen and a nice guy.
and that's another reason not to buy a smartwatch. today it's only done by researchers, i'm sure it will stay that way. as if all those smartphone apps aren't spying enough already.
Maybe that is true for you, but i'm more egoistic about my phone. The advantage of having a mobile phone for me is that i can make a call anytime & everywhere i want, it's not an advantage i can be reached everywhere i am. Ofcourse, this is for my private phone, if you have a bussiness phone, it other rules apply.
Install a custom rom on your S4 mini now, really, it turns it into a better phone. I have one and hated the default out-of-the-box install. I'm now on Android 5 and the phone is faster, battery lasts longer, it has all the crapware removed, is more secure (you do know your android version has security issues?), i couldn't be happier. (i'm using aicp -> http://aicp-rom.com/ )
next should be a system that ignores the input from the steering wheel if the direction turned to is not 'free'. there are already systems that warn you that you can't change lanes, so should be easy to do, in modern cars the steering wheel is not directly connected to the wheels anyway.
Yeah, i remember installing it for getting the latest version of DOS. There was a DOS upgrade included in W95, the latest official DOS (only) release was 6.2. Ofcourse i hacked it so that it would not start windows (later found out this could be done through a hidden feature in windows itself). If for any reason i would still need windows, i could still start it by typing 'win', just like for win3.x Anyway, didn't matter much because not late after i discovered Linux and even more important the OSS movement.
license/support costs for oracle products were too high, oracle didn't care. release rumor that you'll drop oracle and use alternatives. get better license/support deal as a result. well played, but you still lose (as long as you stay with oracle).
first thing is to install a custom rom, my latest android phone, a samsung s4 mini lte didn't last 24h. this was ridiculous and i installed a custom rom after a few weeks and the result - phone lasts for days now on a single charge. going to bed and waking up in the morning only takes 1% off the battery!
it is different and takes getting used to. There are frequent updates to add new things. but it is not at the same shine & polish level as android is now. It's perhaps Android 2.x quality and that's not too bad first a first public release, right? Most apps on the 'store' are made by true hobby/oss programmers, so quality varies, a lot of webapps too.
- What windowing system does it run?
mir + unity 8. before you go nuts, it actually works pretty well for a phone interface. I'm not sold on unity on the desktop (use xubuntu myself), but i have no issues with it running on the ubuntu phone.
- Does it come with a terminal program like my N900?
there is a terminal available; apt works, vi works, what else do you need?:)
Oracle DB is a default in many cases, sure there are some advanced features that are probably missing in the free alternatives like Postgres, but there are only a few times when you really need those. Most of the time people are just looking for a way to store some tables and then run sql querries against them. Hell, in a lot of cases even sqlite would suffice, but in a lot of cases devs are required to use oracle because company standard or other nonsense.
The portfolio of oracle is big, and contains other stuff besides DB, but you can find alternatives for most. And if those projects are not up to snuff, you can perhaps hire a few devs for a couple of months to contribute (in case of OSS project) and implement the features you need and still be cheaper off then paying the licenses for the rest of your life.
When buying an Android phone: check if it is supported by different open custom rom projects. Who cares about those horrid default Android installs that come with the phone.
no, it's not like that. apps/scopes aren't controlled by gestures, they have buttons and icons and stuff, just like any other mobile OS. and those gestures are limited to simple swipes, swipe left, right, up & down. that's it. so one swipe opens the menu bar, another switches to the next app, etc. it really is super easy. It's like the top to button swipe in android, but then for all directions.
Choose between a native app that spies and snoops on your every move and god knows what else it does (all those apps are closed source after all) OR use a web based version which has much less chance of doing the afore mentioned mal-doings.
It's true, as a OS2 user back in the day, i only used it as a multitasking DOS. Why, because the few programs available for OS2 were hard to come by and costed way to much for a young geek like me.
talking about guns... how is encryption a bigger problem then guns and mass shootings?

The headline of this post is an insult for what this site once was.
so they were already using the wmd excuse back in the 40s?
4 cops and not one of them shot him? he's lucky!

Since DirectX only runs on windows, what do you thing all other platforms are using (consoles, mobiles, ...)?
there is no winner in the benchmark test, so firefox is the clear winner.
it's open source and it is not being pushed by a for-profit company.

10 years on the sex offenders register, article will stay on the internet forever.
no, even that is not a reason to do it.

- How good is this Ubuntu phone?

- I can get root if I want it?
yes.
"do I have to have an account somewhere to use my own phone?"
No. But you can have your ubuntu phone manage (supported) accounts for you and even select if apps are allowed to use this account.

hmmm, what to do, what to do....
Who gave them the right to view my bank account balance?
Probably will be hidden in one of their EULA's.
OS2 could also run DOS programs.

Well, Shia LaBeouf ofcourse!
