Button mashing? Well, yes, but considering that the REST of the game involves button mashing to get ahead, I'm not sure if you can take that as an insult (As by the Corky Property: A retard calling a retard retarded is not wrong). Crude? Well the game itself lacks great graphics. Misogynistic? More so than the fact that myself, as a white male making $30,000 pays more taxes percentage-wise, and has less benefits (Scholarship funds, time off of work, respect, etc) than any female in my place? Or person of any other ethnic background than "Caucasian?"
It's a minigame that's supposed to give people a laugh. Or was supposed to. It's not evil of itself, and only has the power that weak-minded individuals give it.
Have a what? A re? a return to the original? A respite from the norm? A resolution? I don't know what you mean!! I.... Oh wait, you were meaning to be funny by commenting on Halos "lack of" ending. It's funny that gamers are so upset with the end of Halo 2, and yet they'll readily accept that Marty came back to 1955 to save the world from Biff. Or that Han has been sold to Jabba the Hutt. Why is it that we expect games we buy to be complete stories from begining to end in one box? Why are we not alright with 10 hours of singleplayer, and 10,000 hours of multiplayer?
What you should and shouldn't do aren't up for me to decide. Your arguments for paying, though, are not arguments that fly. The whole "people should get paid for their work" argument sorely fails when, in fact, the people ARE being paid for their work already. There is no reason to pay extra for the content in these updates, because the people are making their agreed upon wages, whether they be Bungie's map making teams, the marketing guys, the DVD manufacturer, the printers, etc. They're all making their money. And that is the point. This is nothing but an attempt to see how far MS can go with the customers continually paying for content angle to make more profit on a product that has not only made its money back long enough to keep paying the people who made it for years to come.
Yes, they're making money right now... Because there is a reason for them to have a job.. MS sees that they can make money off of new maps... Therefore Bungie employees, CD pressers, artists, etc etc.. are still valuable resources... They can still generate the company money, they still get a job..
They keep a job... I get happy times playing maps... Therefore I don't see the big deal in charging for the maps... The people who get the money are the people who gave me the fun to begin with. I'm paying for what I use... It's not as if the only way for me to continue playing is to pay...
Hrmmm Troll much? Wow... Such anger on such a small post... Lets begin:
Oh, so you mean the sales from Halo 2 go to paying Ballmer, the workers in the Windows division, and the Office division, and the MSN division, etc.?
Nah I was thinking more like the people that press the CDs, the people who run the plants that do that, the artists who design the package, the actual shipping to regional centers.. Etc... I'm sure that the people you mention have other sources of income. Your unwavering hatered of MS aside, there are people who have to make a living off of working for them.
Why would MS have to "pay back" Bungie for anything? Microsoft OWNS Bungie.
Yes, they do... However the relationship between the two isn't like "Hey go down the hall and talk to Bob in Bungie to do this." It's a seperate entity and still gets "Paid" for the work it does.
If you honestly think MS needs Halo 2's sales money to pay Ballmer's and everyone else's salary; has to "pay back" anything to Bungie, a company they own; and that XBL is some massive centralized super server system that is costing MS tons of money in bandwidth every month, when it is in a fact a peer to peer system for EVERY SINGLE GAME, you're too dumb to even be on the Internet.
What does your opinion on my brainpower and right to be on the internet have to do with the subject we're discussing? I missed that part... It's sad to see that instead of being open and educating other people, you've chosen to try to inflame. Maybe the ending of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back had it right: A few internet people don't feel their intelligence is enough to make it, and need to put others down. However if you'd like to continue your discussion on this subject, why don't you try to make yourself look like less of a jerk and EDUCATE instead of starting flame wars:) As to your point, although it is partially a P2P network, that's not entirely true. There are many server farms for XBL (as anyone who tried to play in mid January could tell you) that regulate Gamertags and, now, the matchmaking process. All of that is handled on the XBL side... Once the game starts, it's all p2p... But that's still a lot of work for MS
No, I don't "deserve" anything for free. But I'm not dumb enough to fall for the "well, making maps costs money"
So it is your belief that making maps DOES NOT cost money? Hrmm... Well no, I suppose that making a map itself could be fan driven.. However with the software that was shipped with Halo, that is not easily done (Possible, just not easy) And I'm pretty sure the people that designed these new maps wouldn't be happy with your suggestion that they work for free.
they seem to forget that some people know that they've made a killing on the Halo franchise--hell it took over 2 years for Halo to drop in price, only because it was the only game selling consitently on the Xbox since its launch-- and many of these people know MS is just doing the pay stuff to see if people go for it.
Who are the people who DON'T know that Halo has made millions on millions of dollars. We all know it made money... What's the problem with that? Now it's wrong to make money off of something people like? And they already know people will go for the maps. Why not? Halo2 has been the best multiplayer experience that I've ever had. Hands down. TFC was awesome... Counterstrike is out of this world... But personally I find the matchmaking and balence of Halo much better that either. And I, as well as many many many other people, are willing to spend the few dollars it takes to extend that pleasure.
Think about it, if there are 1 million XBL players playing Halo 2, and all million download both map packs at the pay price ($5.99+$11.99), wow, that turns into $17.98 million in sales. Then if the other 5 or so million people with Halo 2 who don't have XBL go out and buy the disk ($19.99), well gooooooolly! Look at that money! $99.95 million more d
"MS" getting $30? MAYBE gross, but I doubt even that... After paying all the employees, paying back Bungie, and the money that goes towards keeping XBL running with all the extra Halo players (There were rumors that on November 9th almost a full 1% of all internet traffic was XBL)... They're making a profit, but not the huge numbers you'd have us believe. You don't pay for maps? Fine. The rest of us will. I have no problem spending money on something I enjoy. I'm just sorry that you've joined the growing number of people who feel they DESERVE something for free.
The disc is also a very good way to archive the content, should you ever need it again (if you replace your Xbox, for example).
Ermm... Wait a second... If I buy a map, and something happens that is beyond my control... I have to rebuy the map? No other game makes me do that, it's all linked up in my gamertag...
Otherwise, I'm really happy about these changes... Bungie has taken their time, and released the new maps just when attention is starting to slip away from Halo 2.. Kudos on timing, kudos on lowering your profit loss while not putting too much of a dent in my pocketbook, and kudos on all the pies!
Wait.... What happened to all the pies?!

I completely agree. Also, if you remember correctly, when the game was launched the matchmaking system would take up to five minutes to decide who should play with who. It took very quick thinking on Bungies part to get that resolved in less than a week. Which brings me back to my original point: Halo 2 was released with acceptable flaws. It wasn't as buggy as, say, Dakatana when released, but it wasn't released perfect either. And as gamers we should be graceful enough to accept flaws without crying "Foul!"

Anyone who reads the "Weekly update" section of Bungie's website knows what's going on here. The game multiplayer aspect of the game has a few bugs in it, and Bungie has been working for months on ways to fix those bugs without totally ruining gameplay. Why not quietly update their buggy product, give you a few new maps and multiplayer modes, and make YOU carry the costs?
Of course this is going to start a whole bunch of people discussing whether Bungie (or MS) should release products that aren't finished, or are "Buggy." And to those folks I say: Sod off. If we were to wait for every game to be absolutely perfect before shipping, we'd still be stuck waiting for our PS2 Viewtiful Joe demo discs!
Showing off our brain powers I see. MS is not some evil corperation that is trying to take over the world by invading our homes with expansion packs. They're a company, like any other, out to make money. Where will it stop? When they start making games that aren't fun.
KOTOR? Please... Give me old school Return of the Jedi for SNES anyday!
Not to mention.. PODRACING! Who didn't waste a couple of bucks in that huge contraption next to the DDR machine?
I love how the Denver story tells us that the lights were controlled by a "Well known computer device controller." For one thing, any english high school student will laugh at you if you try to use that sentence in a speech. For another, does the media actually think we are so dumb we can't handle the name of the "Computer device controller?"
I, for one, am laughing my christmas ham off right now. I'll admit I didn't think about it before.. But 1.2 million web site viewers a month... each one individually controlling something... Wouldn't be possible.... Err... Right?
TO THE GEEK CAVE!
We're dealing with an industry that's only 20 to 30 years old, depending on how you look at things. It's not like the Oscars, or the Tonys with a media that has been around for forever and a day. Of course the new and hot items are going to get top billing, top voting.
Understand that a "rep" can be just about anything related to the Bungie company, and it's sister/parent/shadow companies. When I hear a source named, then I'll believe it.
How big is a cursor in 1-D on an 800x600 screen?
I must not be understanding this correctly. Does that mean the cursor could only move in two directions to begin with?
Erm, flamebait much?
