And he, unfortunately, never will be. He's not married to a political ideology, so sometimes he'll make the Democrats happy, sometimes the Republicans. That's exactly what I want in a judge (decide on the merits, not on the party), but it's not how to get on the Supreme Court these days.
YMMV (hah!), but in my last car, the AC was either "on" or "not on," and temperature was controlled by the cooled air being blown over the engine to a varying degree (standard heater). You may have a little dial on the interface that you think is adjusting "how much cold," but the reality and energy consumption may be functionally quite different.
In other words, having the AC on full or not does not always have an appreciable effect on gas consumption. Just something to think about.
It's a problem of scale / energy levels. We know GR works for very big things with high gravity. We know the Standard Model works for small things with low gravity (but high in the other 3 forces). The problem is, they don't agree for things that are small and high gravity (e.g., black holes). Since thw two theories give different results, at least one of them has to be "wrong." The problem is finding a way of testing in these somewhat extreme circumstances (making a black hole is not as easy as you might think).
Why do you assume that the insides of the cells (DNR, proteins, etc.), the most complicated parts, formed first? It's very easy for a simple cell-membrane-like structure to form by itself. Get enough semi-polar molecules together and drop them in water, and you have yourself a membrane. A nice, safe, membrane that you can use to protect your simple proteins while they randomly combine.
In other words, I don't think "naked DNA" ever was.
"The US patent system is fundamentally wrong. Why? Because it is a system that guarantees that anyone but the 1st to the gate is hammered"
Actually, the US is one of the only countries that *isn't* strictly "first to file." In the US we have a somewhat complicated system of "priority" (who gets the patent). In a nutshell, if A started working on the invention first (conception), B started later but finished (reduction to practice) and filed first, A can still get the patent if he can show that he continually worked on the invention diligently (which is a big part of why corporate laboratories have such strict documentation protocols).
In just about every *other* country, it is strictly a race to the patent office.
(the above is not legal advice)
You know that Gentoo isn't the only distro for which you can customize the kernel, right? You can (and should, if you have the know-how) recompile the kernel for any distro. It will probably take a few tries to get it right the first time, but you might find it worth it.
Also, most of the big-time distro's compile the optional features (BlueTooth, etc) as modules, so if you don't have BlueTooth hardware, the modules aren't loaded (so no overhead there anyway).
"I disagree with that. Take two people and put them in a pool and tell them to swim laps. One will last longer than the other, and is better."
Sure, but switch the pool to ice-water, and the jock who can swim farther now freees to death faster because he doesn't have as much insulative body fat as the slow swimmer. "Better" isn't objectively definable without a context.
No, it's not funny or ironic -- New York was targetted specifically *because* it's one of the most liberal cities in the nation. Women walking around without their husbands! Jewish people! Oh, the horror!
They don't care about your hippie love crap. The terrorists want everyone to be like them or dead, pluralism is not part of their gameplan.
You can't fix the world with love.
I agree the lack of "degrees" on the 35 is dumb, but for "one in two", you can use any units you want. One foot in two feet. One mile in two miles. Or cm, angstroms, cubits. It's a unitless ratio. If you were in high school Algebra, you'd say the slope was 1/2.
Well, during the biggest insurrection so far (also known as the American Civil War), Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus because he felt he had to. So it has happened, and was done by one of the presidents given he most regard in American culture. Take it as you will.
...on how lng it will take MS to "enhance" IE so as to make the Google/Sun software not work?
There's a reason MS went to great lengths (including giving away software for free) to achieve their browser monopoly.
Yeah, who would want to pay for addspace in the top-rated 18-34 male programming block. It's not like that's a key market segment for just about every add campaign ever...

"Gentoo I've never used, but Gentoo was always overkill and a means to show yourself off as being an "uber g33k" as far as I was concerned."
So... you want to be able to customize the kernel... but distributions that allow you to cuztomize the kernel are 'overkill'... make up your mind.

How does one rent beer? Beer is a consumable. You can hardly repossess beer once I drink it.
Yeah, because making a whip out of rope, driving people away with it and breaking all their stuff isn't "wrath" or anything...
You, sir, obviously lack taste. Pity.
Please. Chrono Trigger was good, but FFVI was the better RPG.
...is lame
