    The research wouldn't be there in the first place if it wasn't for some type of marketing. Your friends will never have heard of it and no one will know it exist. I could make the greatest widget in the world and never sell a single one if I didn't let it be known that I am producing it. Marketing =/= ads, it includes ads.

    If a company doesn't tell what they produce, the public doesn't know it's there.

    If that is the case (which I seriously doubt it is), then the youth need to expand their horizons.

    The world doesn't bow to "you." You need to research and dig into the issues yourself and if one medium isn't providing the information you need, use multiple sources.

    I remember from psychology class that certain reactions are processed in the spinal cord and executed before the information has even made it to the brain. If I hadn't sold my book on amazon after the class, I'd look it up. Something along the lines of say, burning your finger. You will pull away before the signal has even made it all the way to the brain.

    I guess that is just a different in definitions then as I didn't mean an asshole was liar. I meant someone who was stern, willing to tell someone else to fuck off and do what needs to be done even if it means making other people unhappy.

    I'm constantly called an asshole because I tell people what I actually think (I won't lie to make someone feel good) and where to go.

    Non-profits can not get the kind of capital that a publicly traded company can. It's a trade-off.

    Not all, or even most companies would work as non-profit. It's also not a bad thing to try and build wealth.

    Geeks will not inherit the world anymore than any other group will.

    The world has to have different types, asshole types included. Without them and the other groups, the would does not and will never work. You need forward thinkers and you need short sighted thinkers. Without short sighted thinkers, you go bankrupt in the short term and there is no long term and visa versa.

    No one group or type of person can do it all.

    I didn't mean that a sound card would make my computer slow. I meant that I can used the money saved from not buying the sound card and put that towards a better process/more ram/better video card, etc.

    They took a bit of the spectrum that we use and sold it. It's more than just setting a standard. They were no making no money on it, and now they have billions.

    Give some of it back. The government doesn't need more money.

    Where does buying a tv or radio come into play? What are you talking about?

    This is simple. They (the government) took something of perceived value from the consumer and are giving a small portion back. I don't know the exact numbers (and I don't care enough to look), but I'm guessing they are giving back less than 5% of what they made.

    It works for certain countries, but it doesn't university work.

    The culture of the U.S. is built on individualism and it will always value something higher if done alone than done as a group. Added to that is the fact that American culture is built on distrust of the government. American people like to be independent.

    Socialism in the sense that Europeans have it will never work and will never happen in the United States.

    I can't speak for the rest of the US, but here you almost always get the mineral rights with the land (southern Indiana).

    We currently get royalty payments for natural gas wells on our property and we still own the rights.

    Because I would rather the computer be fast than sound like a home theater.

    I have a desktop speaker pair and thats all I want and need. On board sound is just fine for me.

    Anyone who deals with cattle uses the proper terms.

    Nearly everyone in my immediate family farms and owns livestock. Calling a bull a cow to anyone dealing in livestock will cause some funny looks. People piss and moan on slashdot when a cracker is called a hacker by the media. It's no different.

    You do know that cows are actually female cattle.

    Cow is female, bull is male. Both are cattle, or bovine, whichever you prefer. Just because people use the name cow interchangeably doesn't make it correct.

    It's all in the ratios.

    Lets say for argument sake that 1 in every 4 professional reporters are crap, that might be a little low (lets even say it's 1 out of 2) but I'm just making a point. With blogs, about 1 in 50 is half-way solid and the rest is complete and absolute garbage. It's probably more along the lines of 1 in 100.

    The signal to noise ratio makes blogs worthless. Even if you know where to look.

    First off, I'm a chemist and don't have access to $500k worth of equipment at home, so I couldn't telecommute if I wanted to, but even if I could, why?

    I don't want to be at home all the time. I like to leave the house and I'm generally not productive when at home. I go to work to be at work and I go home to be at home. I would rather never mix the two.

    I have some proprietary windows programs (they run some high dollar chemistry equipment) and they need direct and full access to the PCI bus since they have their own interface card.

    There isn't always an alternative, even if you want one.

    The best thing about the EeePc is that it is directly software compatible with mainstream desktops and laptops.

    I wouldn't ever look at one if I had to recompile everything make it work. Being that I don't code, I wouldn't even know how.
