  1. Re:Not necessarily "marketing" on Game Previews Just Game Marketing? · · Score: 1

This would certainly be a problem for the small sites and publications. however i think this wouldnt be the case for the big players like IGN or gamespot. to not have your game previewed on either of these sites loses your game alot of free publicity. even if the preview is bad it gets the games name out.

Just IM'd a buddy of mine who's an editor for one of the big sites. While the developer would certainly prefer only good things to be said in the preview there are no stipulations attached to getting stuff to preview.

Really what you should have done in the situation with the little kid was gotten up quietly. The only way people like that will (hopefully) learn is by being kicked out of the theater. By loudly stomping off you let them know you were going to get the manager, the parents will then quiet the kid for a bit and the manager won't be able to do a thing because his hands are tied unless he has some evidence other than one persons word.

Of course I understand you were pissed but a little restraint would have nailed those asshats :)

    1. France gets something to the effect of 75% of its power from nuclear power and has so for quite some time and yet it isnt really having any problem of disposing of it. Given the amount of open space in the United States we should be able to dispose of large amounts of waste for quite some time (if we can get past public hysteria that is).

    2. Point conceded. Who ever said all of the power had to come from nuclear power?

    3. We need to start implementing a power solution now, not gamble on possible technology in the future. If solar power becomes viable in the next 20 years then we can start work on those plants and phase out the nucs. Until then we need to start building something and nucs are a very tempting offering.

I skimmed the artical and it does indeed look interesting. I'll read it more thoroughly in a bit.

you've got a few flaws here:

"and causes pollution in other ways such as in radioactive waste"
Yes but this waste can be easily contained and has zero chance of worsening global warming, most deffinitly the worlds chief environmental concern.

"Considering the fact that getting even one nuclear power plant built takes years, nuclear power does not look optimal."
Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure more than one reactor can be built at a time.

"Therefore, solar energy is our best chance at meeting our energy needs."
Well you pretty much eliminate your "best chance" yourself in the next sentence by pointing the very obvious problem with solar power: "conversion/storage". There are plenty of places in the world where solar power would not be a viable sorce of mass power for several months out of the year because of this very issue.

No one was asking for these scientists to give the drug away or even sell it at cost. The parent to your first post stated: "as near cost as practicable". What this is suggesting is that drug companies often place steep mark ups to rapidly regain research loses. Given the wide need for a drug like this in third world countries the original poster was expressing his or hers desire that the drug companies place a more modest markup on the drug should it prove to be successfull. As for myself, since you seem keen on the personal attacks (I don't see how your questioning the individual has been constructive so far), but I am a full time student which takes up about 35 hours a week, I work 15-20 hours to pay what bills I can while I go to school and a volunteer at a local non profit 10-20 hours a week (depending on school workload) which specilizes in educating future city leaders on local issues to help incourage community involvement. I do what I can with the time I have available now and when I am through getting my degree I can use part of my higher earning potential to donate larger sums to the unfortunate.

However, viewing this from the context of the continent of Africa where it is estimated that in some countries 1/3 of the entire population is HIV positive, most of whom I'd venture don't have health insurance, it's a completely different matter. Not only will the hundreds of thousands of people die horrible, horrible deaths without a cure, but such a death toll would ruin the entire continents economy (what little of one it has) ruining the lives of many more.

Given this context i certainly don't see how some one could begrudge anoter for wishing for anything that could make this drug (if it works) more quickly and readily available to these people, such as the company pricing it cheaper. Further more, attacking the previous posters altruism, or lack there of, seems a bit inappropriate. It's not as if whether he or she volunteering or working for a profit determines how available a drug would be for countless suffering individuals.
