I had a huge choice. I hated PacBell, hated SBC even more. So I picked up my crappy AT&T phone (which I still have btw, a gift from my grandfather's estate) and called Cox Communications and got their digital phone hooked up. I pay $25/month for a full featured land line. Because I dropped the voicemail. :D I ain't never looked back.

As for DSL, I can get it from any carrier from SBC to Verizon to hubbajoes. But, I again chose Cox, because they have the best performance. And my Internet is always up. I've never had a single problem... *knock on head* Of course, now I'll have any of these issues. But I sure love my 10Mb download stream! :D

I lived 1/2 a mile from the park growing up in Oakland, walking to see the A's play to the series, blah blah blah. And now it's "Monster" Park - for Monster Cable??? WHAT! They seriously destroyed a major part of my childhood.

Naming rights for stadiums and the like should be left to the voters that PAY for the stadiums to be built. At least Qualcomm ponied up part of the cash for the Jack Murphy Stadium upgrades to get some of their naming rights... and are a continued valued contributer to the team that plays there.

And since when the hell did we have to have a stadium for *every* sport? Ahhhhh... yes, the fall classic. Sorry, baseball bites my c0ck... that I don't even *have*. And so I'm off to watch the Gulls play at IPayOne Center Arena! Fuck me. :(

I couldn't agree more with you. Bush actually lost me the first time during the 2002 State of the Union address. All the biblical references and religious overtones scared me. I do support the Iraq War, and I continue to... but I don't support the way that we did it, how we execute it, and the continuing mistakes that are made. It was rushed, unplanned, and didn't heed many of the warnings that our father's died for in Vietnam. But then, last year, even though I don't believe any of the mudslinging, I supported him. Mainly because Kerry spit in my father's face back in the day. :( Which is sad, because my father was already gone when Kerry ran, thank god, but I knew even as a child about this. It hurt him more than anything... and I could never vote for someone who would ever in their life disgrace a soldier in uniform, much less one that may have saved your dumb ass. *sigh*

But after the election, he started losing me gradually... first with the loss of his cabinent... I love Colin Powell, and want to see a McCain Powell ticket for 2008. Only that will overtake Hillary, and Condi ... she's too much of a calculator to be President. But over the last few months, I've just been getting angrier and angrier. Most of my bitterness is coming from the same things as others - refusal to step up and take accountability for anydamnthing - but then he's a politician, they don't generally. The continued religious overtones and patroning - WE DON'T NEED THIS WHILE FIGHTING BATTLES ON ARAB LANDS!! Lunacy, I tell you. But the appointees that he's selected, starting with Michael Brown, though Harriet Miers (though I do like John Roberts) have been nothing more than asskissers trying to get close and gain power. That's how politics works. :( But cronyism is the worst form of favoritism that there is. Look where it's got FEMA. :(

I'm so with you man... I'm a centerist with liberal moral values and conservative financial values, but I'm the daughter of soldiers going back to the Civil and Revolutionary Wars - leading me to be more hawkish than some. But even I know when enough is enough. I can only hope and pray that we really are winning the war in Iraq. I know now that we *are* doing the right thing, after having talked with enough drunk soldiers and Marines that have come home. I love them all... and if I weren't already married and supporting one, I'd take care of all of the wounded. A little Florence Nightengale I am. *smile*

The only thing I that I can do is start a PAC or non-profit grassroots organization, which I'm considering, but I'm putting more effort toward something I'm working on for rebuilding NOLA, so we'll have to see. :)

I am finding as I grow up (heh... 32 and still growing, huh?) that my views are slightly more Lib than they are GOP. But I'm still a 'publican. If the Bush Administration doesn't finally lose me. Why can't we pay decent wages for menial jobs so that Americans will do them, rather than pawning them off on 'migrant workers'? Because the damnable corporations again. I'm telling you.... they want to pay as little as possible, both in taxes and salary, so have no qualms about hiring illegal's under the table. I've seen it even in IT!!!! It's so disgusting.

I'm worried as hell that my kids won't be able to support themselves as they grow up, because they are going to be so far behind. The only thing I can do is keep them out of public school and educate them the absolute best that I can, preparing them for competition against the world.

I've also been thinking about working abroad, and then I talked to my neighbor who just got back from Austria. BUMP THAT! Not only do I have to pay the local taxes, I have to pay special taxes back to the US because I'm not contributing to the US Coffers! It makes me ill to know that all of my 42% tax bracket is going to fund SSI for people who are cheating the system (not really disabled, but so illiterate someone felt sorry for them and said they were 'psychological challenged" and gave them disability status), fat people who can't control what the hell they put in their face - TWINKIES ARE NOT HEALTH FOOD, or smokers who pollute the very air that I breathe!

But what can we do? I live here, I live in the welfare capital of the Union - only here do illegals get welfare, I swear. Maybe in Florida, but I doubt it. I pay the taxes, I vote, and I bitch. That's my right, as I vote in *every* election - even next week's. :P The system is so big, change will take a long time. It has to start somewhere though. Jho

But, the illegal immigrants BELIEVE that they will take back the land that was 'theirs' by populating it. 15% of children born today are NOT OF LEGAL AMERICAN CITIZENS! Fully 1/5th of new mothers in California cannot speak or read English! And Hispanics have the highest birthrate in America (avg. 5 children), while non-Hispanic whites have THE LOWEST.

Something to be said about preventing subjugation of our nation by illegal immigrant births. At least H1B's are SUPPOSED to be here. And have to go home at some point. It's sad. Very sad. :(

The rate of welfare recipients (yes, in CA, illegal immigrants can get welfare of some type or another, especially health care) is directly correlated with this. It used to be in Colorado where I grew up, if you went on welfare, you got the Norplant, whether you agreed or not. Period. Hrm.
