I think they're trying to make this dual-licensing model similar to MySQL's - develop GPL'ed (even commercial) software with GPL Qt, but if you want to release it under different license (not as free as GPL), buy a commercial one from them.
That's the point. What a pity, there are tenths of replacements on Linux for almost all user activities, but there isn't even one linux-compatible virus project on sourceforge!
Poland was the first country to successfully overthrow communist government - despite danger from USSR. We (Poles) have a good tradition in fighting with bigger fuck-ups, but let's hope this time rest of Europe will support us actively:).
I live in Europe (in Poland - yes, once again I'm proud of that:)) but I'm still interested in patent issues.
Regardless of all/.ers' bitching - kudos to Real, now everyone can install RealPlayer, chmod 000 (if you're that paranoid about Real's spy/ad/mal-ware) all files inside its folder and legally play MP3 with their favourite decoder.
Okay, you got me here - actually, every year there're more and more reasons to be proud of my Country. Just wanted to emphasize that Polish politicians finally did care about blocking software patents.
It wasn't always like that. Like many countries that just started developing democracy after 45 years of communism, we had, still have and will probably still have problems with our politicians.
The thing is, Poles were always good at throwing away government that didn't satisfy the citizens, and because of that we have one of most "mature" democratic systems amongst countries east of Iron Curtain.
There was quite big initiative of Open-Source activists (grouped mainly around linux site 7thguard.net) to inform and press Polish politics to use all means possible to stop software patents. While our diplomats screwed some occasions up, this time they've shown (at least, one of ministers of science and informatics) they deserve the payment and power.
A kiss - because they're still trying to somehow connect their business with Open Source movement. They're making new license for every product they release to the Community, but none of these licenses is compatible with GPL. Which is OK for me, I'm not a religious fanatic, I just want my software to be free (as in beer) and usable - and Sun's product's I'm using are free (as in beer), regardless of what you might say.
A kick - because they still prefer business. Novell and Mandrake can somehow make it with GPL - maybe Sun should also try?
Another thing in Thunderbird (but despite that I'm using it) that sucks with multiple accounts is the way it handles multiple outgoing mail servers. You don't set chosen outgoing mail server to chosen account - you just have to line them up in the same order as accounts.
With Russia going back to its space programmes, we're going to have more major players than during Cold War - that is, USA, Russia, China, maybe also EU.
Let's hope everyone - in contrary to recent US projects concerning space defense systems - remembers treaties about peace in space.
Have you actually read first Patrick's mail about his health condition and doctor's inability to make proper diagnosis?? If it wasn't for Patrick's hacker way, he wouldn't have known what's up with him even today. It's easy to say that self-diagnosis is wrong and he sould visit a doctor - but the thing is, he visited lot of them and none of them was able to find what's up until Patrick spent some time on Google!
It's time to stop 'creativity' shown in difference of names and paths between all the distros.
Besides that, maybe standarisation can help Linux become considered as one of Unix systems.
So, RedHat, Debian, Xandros, Lindows and all the other big players - we're waiting for you joining this consortium and implementing LSB.
Site was/.-ed (well, what a surprise). Please, use MirrorDot. This particular story (with full images) can be found under this link.
Anyway, the comparison is good. But how about comparing mkfs with format c:?

They should not - they couldn't actually, because MS Office has definitely more features than OOo.
That's the point. What a pity, there are tenths of replacements on Linux for almost all user activities, but there isn't even one linux-compatible virus project on sourceforge!
Good point there, Richard (or should I say st. IGNUcius?).
Now, seriously - outside x86 and binary-only drivers people really start to understand the whole purpose of Free and Open.

Regardless of all
I like Ruby, even before I got to know Rails. The only thing I regret is that LAMR sounds really bad.
;).
I develop webpages with LAMR - imagine saying something like that
As I see, most Slashdotters - instead of commenting - decided to RTFA and check possibilites of emigrating to and working in India.
OK, guys, if you've already checked it - how much does a plane ticket from Europe to India cost? And are there good employment perspectives?
Okay, you got me here - actually, every year there're more and more reasons to be proud of my Country. Just wanted to emphasize that Polish politicians finally did care about blocking software patents.
The funny thing about your comparison is, Poland (like all ex-communist countries) always had IDs obligatory for all citizens...

Actually, for the first time in a few years I'm really proud to be Polish.
How do you define "death" of an undead, ie. zombie?
If you mean "when they will stop moaning and disturbing the living ones" - well, that's a question for an Exorcist, not a geek.
So we can finally make a Beowulf cluster consisting of robots?

Wow, and I'm still using the GNU ``mail`` command. I didn't know they had an ncurses based mail client yet.
You must be using Debian Stable, don't you?

About the second past tense - now I know what does "C" in SCO stand for!
Remember, GNU is Not FSFE!

Best thing about kids is written at the bottom of page: "PS. Dad lost the first game".
Made me laugh for quite some time.

Yes, but do these cockroaches run Linux?
