I'm curious to learn how/why you think "the treatment of Western children with life-threatening illnesses is arguably the single most overfunded branch of the medical profession."

As a matter of dollars-spent (total or per-patient), I'd suggest that the money spent on Western adults is far greater and to no surprise. Last I read, children represent 50% of the lives on Medicaid, for example, yet make up only 5% of the inpatient dollars spent. Not proof, I realize, but telling.

Further, I'd consider money spent on children a potential investment while the money spent on dying adults to be potentially wasteful.

This practice predates the Bush Administration for some time.

My favorite example comes from none other than Alexander Haig and his friends at The World Business Review. For a "small fee" they will produce a 60 Minutes-style segment about your company and services under the guise of being "about the latest topics, trends and issues in a variety of industries."

Check out their topics and note how 1 or more companies are linked to each story. Checks were passed. How do I know? Because they call us every few years, asking us if we're interested. And, if you don't know better, when you hear that someone representing Al Haig is on the phone and is interested in doing a news story about your company, you listen.

Whoa, I see that Vin Cerf is on their board. Check it for the ubiquitous Homeland Security personnel.

It has been interesting to note the assumptions made by other /.ers about the circumstances related to this request. Some are right on...others are just funny. I wish I could respond to them all to clarify things, but doing so is likely to identify me. Which would be No Good.

Finally, I am responding to seek clarification on what seems to be the most consistent suggestion: looking at Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. That seems like an important site regardless of one's browser. However...I don't see any obvious correlation between the 508 materials and the impact on IE. Is IE somehow non-compliant with Section 508? Is not adhering to W3C standards somehow a problem (relative to 508, that is)?

Any help clarifying this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I could get all the settings right in the expectation of the arrival of the box.

    Meanwhile, check out the

  21. Re:Slimp3 on Multi-Room Wireless Sound System? · · Score: 3, Interesting

You can definitely do cheaper than a slimserver (though mine is on its way).

    The
NetGear MP101 can be had for ~$75 after rebate at your local Big Box Electronics Store. Note, though, that the experiences with this product range from miserable to acceptable, largely because of weak wireless capability (it works for some, not others) and a flaky server software package.

The slim, on the other hand, has a fairly amazing open package with some awesome plugins developed by the community. The downside, though, is that it's not compatible with UPnP (which the MP101 is), making alternative servers, like Twonkyvision
    useless.

Why am I switching to the slim, even with the higher price (3x)? Two reasons: first, the open server software - perl based! - means that I'll get features I really dig and not get stuck without answers. Second, the MP101 can only really do radio streams if you pay a one time? $20 fee OR monkey around considerably. While the service is pretty nice during the trial period, I'd prefer to not pay for something I can do for free.
