I hope you are not referring to 230gr hardball- 85% one shot stop in actual police shootings. There are high velocity 9mm loads that have 96% one shot stop statistics out there. One of the best rounds of all time was the.357 magnum 125 gr JHP that also has 96% one shot stop statistics backing it. Since then we have Hydra Shoks and I do not know the data on those.
Where was this discussion when I was beating my head in to a wall trying to pick up Linux back in '96 and the standard answer was "RTFM a$$hole"? The manual assumed you had familiarity with the operating system that you didn't have.
And there you are. Bigotry comes in all flavors. Somebody will always hate somebody without warrant. Not all Republicans are "Fascist, Warmonger, Hatemonger, Criminal, Deviant, Brain-Dead" but yet you stereotyped them. It's part of the human condition, deal with it. Laws won't fix it either. Everyone knows where the line is and that's harm to another.
Pardon my rant- When is all this crap about "SaaS" and -pardon me while I choke on this over used phrase- "Cloud Computing" going to end? Who in the He11 would want their OS running on someone else's hardware? Who would want their data stored somewhere else? Who would want the possibility of the data overlords going through their stuff? Anybody who opts for this deserves what they get. Why the push to get computing out of the hands of people and in to the hands of people who can manipulate things?
You did that way better than I could have. I was gonna tell him to stfu and provide him with a url that has the goatse images. 'course that would've prolly started another artistic debate.:-)
Any system that needs to be secure should never be allowed access to any network that has public access. If remote systems "need" to communicate it should be done via dedicated leased lines. Even better since we are talking utility type SCADA systems here, why not have the utility lay fiber, line of sight microwave or what have you (as long as it is properly encrypted)? This way if the telco gets ganked, the leased lines can't be traversed.
I have no fear of Linux- I love the Sabayon distro. What I don't like about Linux is the lack of developers making games FOR Linux. I have used wine for Windows emulation and it's ok, I have used Cedega for running my Window's games- BUT IT'S JUST NOT THE SAME.
They started trying to bring the main frame back in 1997. That was about the time the thin clients started making a come back. Citrix had MetaFrame and I think MS had their version based on NT- can't remember the name though. This whole thing is a game. Every few years things get shifted around and Gartner *choke* writes an article about the recycled technology calling it revolutionary. The article is dumbed down so management types can talk about it amongst themselves on the golf course and then they give each other reach arounds as they get high on buzzwords- it all comes to a climax when someone says "synergy" or "green datacenter".
One observation on my part however, whenever an app that I have used was made to be web-based, performance/response times went in the toilet. That's just my.02, but I have yet to meet anybody that said their new web-based app whipped the llama's azz compared to the old thin-client or mainframe app.
Thank you for writing this, you just saved me some typing. You know the work will be doled out to companies using H1-B's.
On a side note with the financial bail-outs- Are the banks that received money from the gov't still going to go after the mortgage holders that defaulted?
You are so right! No one thinks about the anonymity issues either. Let's say a wife is running from her abusive husband and holes up some place.
Husband "Hello, OnStar, I seem to have forgotten where my car is. Can you tel me where I left it last night"?
Why don't they cut down the amount spent on Welfare and institute a state sales tax? Before I get flamed on the welfare comment, I do realize there were some movements afoot to reform Welfare in Oregon. I just don't know the outcome of those movements.
I think the basic gist is this. To offer high speed service they have to open some frequencies that would allow you to watch the basic channels for free. Well God knows they won't let you do that so they basically charge you a fee for basic service.
It is a bold assertion and it's also correct. The average consumer does not upgrade their os. SOHO and advanced users may, but not the average malware downloading consumer. Yes there are exceptions as there are in all things. There are still people running Win 98. I do IT security professionally and am the resident geek for a lot of friends and relatives. Guess what, the only time I see a new os on their boxes is when they buy a new one.

I wish I had mod points. Someone please mod him up insightful

I know there is a hemmorhoid joke in here somewhere.

No, that was Rod Blagojevich.
Man I fell for that hook, line and sinker.

If I had mod points, I'd mod you up. You put it more eloquently than I did.

Ah, come on mods- that was funny.
The key to managing people is the same as anything else in life. Treat them with respect and dignity. Remember, "do unto others".

I guess you never had to clean up spillage?
Please don't censor what comes across my screen...

Priceless!
Those methods still require access.
