    Not true. The current diesel fuel standards in the US prevent the cleaner diesel engines from being sold. The engines exist and are being sold everyday in Europe. It's our dirty diesel fuel that is holding them back. Thankfully our diesel standards are set to go up in the next year or two which will open our markets to these very efficient and clean diesels.

    If you run yum with '-C' it will use its local cache instead of looking for new headers on the servers.

    PNG is not very good for photographic data

    You can't just say that and not offer reasons.

    The compression phase also requires significant processing (zlib)

    Not much compared with the computation required for JPEG compression.

    From the article I took that nVidia will be filling out the rest of the 6xxx line (6500, 6200, etc). Your 6800 will still be the cream of the crop for the next 180 days or so.

    That somewhere else has to be tax revenues flowing into the General Fund from tax payers.

    It doesn't HAVE to come from taxes. The money could come from tariffs.

    The batteries were designed to have a lifetime of less than a year. It won't matter if the solar panels are operating at 100%, the batteries will stop holding a charge.

    If someone stole my car and ran someone over with it, is that my responsibility too? What if I left the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition? Have I committed a crime? I think not.

    Any centralized machine or site will be subject to attack from lawyers, corporations, and politicians. They can point to that site and say, "We need to get rid of this, for our childrens' sake!". What is a lawyer going to do if every person put up a copy of the same objectionable information on their site? Sue everybody? Gates doesn't even have that kind of money.

    Other than some cool reading material, it wouldn't be of any use. The only people that would benefit from Transmeta completely opening their hardware design would be Intel, AMD, IBM, Mot., etc. They have the ability make changes to the design and then actually manufacture the chips. I know I don't have a fab in my garage, I wish I did.

    But.. 75% of this technology is in software and Transmeta does seem willing to open up some of that. So I'm not outraged, I'm anxiously awaiting.
