Theres more than just the road lines. You have reflectors at the road side, you also have the visual differences between road and shoulder and ditch to detect. In winter the demarcation of road vs. snow in the ditch is visually detectable. Now, drift detection will be harder, I would probably agree with a system that kicked to manual mode if snowdrifts are detected in the roadway. Heavy rain could be a problem with visual AND radar systems, possibly necessitating a fallback to manual as well.
I think visual systems will be capable of dealing with this in real time for most situations, but manual will be needed for backup.
Too true. It is not logical for the telecom companies to be doing this.
If piracy is as rampant as the MAFIAA suggests, then they will be cutting off customers and losing considerable revenue.
If piracy is a tempest in a teacup, then WTF are we doing changing all our laws and allowing the MAFIAA to tell every other company on the planet to do its job for them.
I always think "what if Wal-Mart were as adamant about stopping shoplifting as the MAFIAA is about stopping piracy?" The answer is that they'd strip search everyone when they are leaving the store....
The MAFIAA is out of its mind. I like the music and movies their members make but I that their organization with a passion. If they destroy the Internet that I love, I will just step out and stop giving them any money at all and them watch them burn.
I always find it interesting how moralizing and condescending the MPAA can be to citizens of so many countries, then they turn around and provide products, which in their minds we "must buy" that glamorize and criminals and gangsters.
I really believe there ought to be a law that bans movie studios from making movies about violating the law.
Actually, no I don't believe that. But I be willing to trade a promise from the studios that they can continue to make movies about criminals ONLY IF THEY STOP LOBBYING FOR LAWS THAT MAKE EVERYONE A CRIMINAL!!!
There sure is a tech panacea for distracted driving.
SELF DRIVING CARS
There. Solved, Q.E.D.
I want my self driving car and I want it very soon.
What frustrates me most of all is that the biggest hurdle stopping self driving cars is the damn lawyers who are salivating at suing the first self driving car manufacture who has a problem, even though technology like this would virtually eliminate distracted driving completely.
I think theres a very good chance that the one of the four that gets completely cut could easily end up getting bought out by one of the others in order to get access to some of the developed technology.
Specifically, I'd look for Boeing to buy the odd company out in this situation. Yes, that means I think there's no chance Boeing would be the odd company out.
Ok, I'll not mod the troll for what it is. But that condescending "reality liberal bias" shit is getting really old.
Just to point to a counter example. Greece would prefer to stick with its liberal policies and continue spending government money it doesn't have. In this case, and I am not claiming that this is true in all cases, reality has a decidedly conservative bias. Greece needs to make heavily conservative moves with respect to their government spending or they are doomed. And no, the liberal "raise taxes" move isn't going to work, either.
So, Greece is living in a reality that has a conservative bias. Through proof by contradiction, the lie that "reality has a liberal" bias (in all cases) is patently false.
All the whiny crybabies that got suckered into buying this stinker of a stock now want their losses covered?
Due diligence isn't just a cool sounding term. If you're an investor you've got to assume they're painting a rosy picture to try an convince people to invest. It's your responsibility to figure out if the story is too good to be true.
As trivial as it was to figure out that the Facebook IPO was a ruse, these plaintiffs deserve to have their case thrown out of court.
Very true point. Clinton's Presidency was vastly improved by Newt.
I have to agree. I am pretty solidly Conservative/Libertarian, but I have to admit that Clinton was a pretty good President.
In hindsight, Hillary would have been better than Obama.
Also in hindsight EVERY SINGLE WORD of Obama's stellar speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2004 has turned out to be a LIE.

Hits the mainstream press? He was on MSNBC last week.
Oh wait, yeah, just wait until this hits the mainstream press.

and, in conclusion.... get off my lawn!!!
Um. Its called Representing Your Constituents.
Its also the right thing to do on more than one level.
There sure is a tech panacea for distracted driving.

Yeah, instead of not allowing you product on their platform, they'd just copy you product and give it away for free.
In retrospect, my post could have been simpler had I just said:
I think Sierra Nevada will be left out and Boeing will probably buy them.
Your analysis is spot on.
Yep. Elon's response to the criticism of his heroes shows one thing:
This guy has a PASSION for achieving his goals and driving his company forward.
It is something that IMHO NASA needs to grab on to and embrace.
SpaceX is in this to succeed and they appear to be incredibly committed to their goals.
Its nice to see people with that kind of drive back in the space industry again.
I think theres a very good chance that the one of the four that gets completely cut could easily end up getting bought out by one of the others in order to get access to some of the developed technology.

"struggle to meet their emissions targets."
I think they misspelled the word struggle, it should be spelt FAIL.
I disagree.
If its on Netflix, why would I even bother to download the torrent?
of course my corollary for that is....
If the content industry ever kills Netflix I am going to steal everything and pay for nothing.
The criminals would have to get in line behind his government.
I just try to keep Om Nom fed and happy....
No, they're not all in Silicon Valley, but Google is.
I'm sorry my back of the envelop calculations don't take into account the possible lower price of labor in other locales or overseas.
Yes, Greece is looking for a liberal solution.
I agree the conservative solution is very painful for them.
But, I think if they follow the liberal solution, their country will burn. It will be 10x worse than anything they've gone through so far.
Their options are painful thriftiness, or universally worthless money.
Republican != Conservative
Fine then pay them $50K a year. (Good luck finding someone in Silicon Valley willing to work for that.)
This STILL means that google would be out almost $12 billion dollars.
Its still a ridiculous amount.
Where's the +1 awesome mod?
Yeah, rocket train.....

Lucky for you the Republicans just happened to pick a small soap dish to run against him.
