Over the years, PC World has becaome very toned down, and I see them only reviewing full PC's, never individual components.
To see products like: NVidia GeForce 6600 GT Graphics Board Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 SATA NCQ Internal Hard Drive Plextor PX-716UF Rewritable DVD Drive Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Motherboard
That was a nice suprise, and even though I may not agree with the list, it was still interesting to see what they picked.
-Windows 2000 or XP -Winamp 2.92 (yes i know its old but it supports shoutcast) -SHN and FLAC Winamp plugins -Winamp Shoutcast DSP plugin -Windows Shoutcast server
The DSP enocdes to MP3 on the fly, and really dosn't use much in the way of system resources.
The only problem i cna think of is remote control.
I don't think this is targeted at the/. crowd, more towards the people that buy those Pac-Man joysticks at the mall because they think it will bring them back to childhood.
We, on the other hand, have grown to know and love MAME, so this isn't all that exciting, UNLESS they get some ultra-rare game that us MAME'ers don't have yet
P.S. The icon for this is a X-Arcade controller, the ULTIMATE MAME controller!
Uh huh... High school student? You're going to get reamed royally when they find out you've been installing all this unauthorised stuff on the crappy Windows PCs in the labs.
Only install stuff on machines you're allowed to. If they suddenly discover SETI@Home running on machines it shouldn't then it'll give the project a bad name. Besides, if you can install all this stuff and not have anybody notice then they've got other security problems fix first.
MANY of the computers already have it on there at my school, I just change the account fromk the sysadmin's to mine. They will NEVER notice, as its the CLI version. And for the ones that DON'T have it, the sysadmin doesn't really know that they don't already.
Oh yeah, and for some real fun, install it on a bunch of G5's at the Apple store.
I borg (install SETI@home) on very box I can lay my hands on, and I guess the total value of all those machines is weel into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
I also installed a Counter-STrike server on a server at my high school, and I think its been running for like 7 months and noone has noticed yet:-)
I haven't been keeping up on console games recently, so I dont know what evenets still exist. I *think* that there is some show in Japan in the Fall, but I don't know. I think Nntendo should atleast have some beta hardware to show off, not just DS and Gamecube games. This may hurt them. But maybe this is jsut a flase rumor.
Verizon is cheaper, Comcast is faster. It really depends on how fast you want to go. Ask otehr people in your area how they like Verizon. Broadband can be hell in some areas and heaven in others.
I would assume that since it replaced a Linux cluster, it probobly runs close to the same form that it replaced so all their old apps will continue to work without much tweaking.

No backward comptibilty in the Xbox (2/Next), as this seems kind of early to state this, makes me think that high profile titles for Xbox may even come out after Xbox NExt comes out.
People just LOVE camera phones these days, and by not putting standard connectors on, consumers are forced to pay outrageous prices for data servece, where if they had a USB cable, they could just mount it as a drive and drag the JPEGs right off the phone.
Companies goals are to make money, not please the customer.

I wonder if the price is because of the cost of the connection (probobly a satellite phone), or something else.... What do you guys think?

Doesn't the definition of "Podcast" require RSS?
Anyways, I thought it was very interesting and cool how they have done this, it should make others feel better about the space program.
I hope they continue this on future missions.

Divx is used for transfrerring over the internet, so the smaller the file is, the better.
Even with many pipes over 500KB/second, it still is not enough to stream in 1080i.
Mac OSX can use mice with one to infinite buttons. This isn't System 7.
You will get it with 10.4.1 due in less than a month. Its like this is in Debian unstable right now. When you get it it will be like testing.
